What’s the return for larkin as an UFA at the deadline? A first round pick and we pray they are as good as larkin while setting the rebuild back years? Also, who are the two superstars on those Tampa rosters? Vasi Hedman Stamkos Kucherov
I don’t care what the return is. You shouldn’t overpay him. We’ve been mediocre every year he has been on the team. If you pay him $9 million you’re setting team back even more. and yes. Stamkos and Hedman were already on the roster when he became GM.
Larkin has a NMC, so the return will depend on how many (if any) teams he agrees to waive his NMC for. And I agree that Yzerman deserves heat right now, but it’s nothing crazy yet. Even the Chiarot deal isn’t a long term deal that will haunt us forever. Yzerman to this point hasn’t killed our cap space in the near term, nor the long term. My theory now is he made the moves this past summer to give the young guys a chance to really take the ball, and prove they are franchise guys. It hasn’t happened yet, and my thinking is because it didn’t happen this year, that Yzerman realizes he needs to give them time to reach that level, but that will require taking another step back.
There's just no way you can convince me that there are 32 better centers in the league than Larkin. Is he a top 10 or even 15 center? Probably not, but if you think there are 32 better centers then I'd love to see the list.
He'd be an elite 2C on a playoff team. 8.5M for an average 1C isn't breaking the bank. Trying to think of a better 2C on a Stanley Cup winning team in the past 15 years outside of Malkin.
the Blues are debatable. If we added Horvat to Larkin, we would have comparable C’s to them with ROR and Schenn.
We have a ton of UFA, so here is current tires on the likelihood they are traded: Bertuzzi: 90% - If he isn’t hurt come the TDL, he’s gone Maata; 70% - We probably try to bring back one of Maata and Walman, Maata probably brings back a nice return and Walman gets an affordable new deal Suter: 50% - I think we move one of he or Sundqvist for sure to open a spot for Elmer Sundqvist: 50% - See above Walman: 50% - I could see an offer for Walman that is too good to then down but it’s not a given — he’s likely resigned Erne: 40% - likely gone if we get any kind of offer - don’t see one coming Osterle: 20% - See above Haag: 10% - See above Larkin: 5% - I think this one goes to July at this point but if Larkin says he would go to a team like Colorado I could see a deal happening
Lidstrom is number 8 on the athletic all time modern greats. I normally don't read comments but a lot of ppl seem to love bourque over lidstrom. Seems weird to me
I didn't even consider they'd have Lindstrom over Yzerman (15), but I guess I can see it. Sakic over Yzerman is a problem, but at least they have Stevie over Messier.
Sakic over Yzerman is insane. Only the most homerish of Avs fans would have that. Stevie was better both offensively and defensively and did it for longer. And yes, I’d have Lidstrom over Yzerman.
I’d offer Ras, Hronek and a 2 for Horvat. Beyond that, I’m out. We have a home and home with Vancouver the 11th and 13th, so I would think if something happens, it’s before that time.
Perfectly fine sitting that out. I think Horvat is a legit option this Summer, though I assume the Isles get him extended first.
Depending on if an extension is worked out and the protection on that pick, but that seems like a solid deal for NYi
In trying to figure out what the TDL might look like, here is what the depth chart looks like right now with guys under contract (I am adding Edvinsson who I think makes the team. I want to add Elmer but I think Kasper might be ahead of him barring a decent amount of movement) Rasmussen - ??? - Raymond Perron - Copp - Berggren Fabbri - Veleno - Vrana? Kubalik - ??? - Zadina ??? ??? ??? - Seider Chiarot - Hronek Edvinsson - ??? ??? Husso ??? I assume Larkin and Walman are brought back, but I am not sold Vrana sticks around. I think Kasper makes the team next year as a W before transitioning to C in 2024, so my assumed 2023 depth chart as of today: Rasmussen - Larkin - Raymond Perron - Copp - Berggren Fabbri - Veleno - Kasper Kubalik - ??? - Zadina ??? ??? Walman - Seider Chiarot - Hronek Edvinsson - ??? ??? Husso ??? In saying all that, I don’t see Yzerman going into next year without making a few more changes to the roster, which is why I could see some other moves at the TDL involving guys with term (Hronek, Zadina, Kubalik, Vrana). I’ll set the O/U on trades at 3.5.
Kubalik is second on the team in points with 14+20=34 in 48. No way is he a fourth liner, not this year, not next year. That’s worthy of a minimum of a second at the deadline.
Kubalik basically played fourth line minutes in January. He average about 12:20 TOI, only about 30 seconds more per game than Adam Erne.
He averages 2nd/3rd line minutes a season and is pacing for 2nd line points. If the plan is for him to play 4th line minutes next year we should just trade him while his value is high.
There was a report that Larkin was going to meet with his agents this weekend. My guess is Yzerman and Larkin come to terms on a new deal sometime next week, or Yzerman asks Larkin if he’d waive his NMC for any teams and the poker game continues.
Complicating all of this is Larkin’s no trade clause. More than likely he just walks and we get nothing.
Watched Mastrosimone against UAF tonight and he was absolutely invisible outside of getting into a facewash contest in the first period.
More a comment that Larkin doesn't have much around him in Detroit. Add 3-5 years to the rebuild if you move him for picks.
we are still at least 3 years away from competing for a cup anyways, so who gives a shit if they trade him.
Exactly my point. Trade Larkin and we are now 6-8 years away from competing for a cup. We will never agree on this so I'll quit contesting you on it.
