And seeding is done by a committee that's making it up as they go. There's very very little difference in 8/9 in a given year yet one gets a huge advantage.
I'm not referring to weather at all. Texas seemed like a very tough atmosphere to play in today and the weather was fine. I'm just not a fan of seeding done by a committee playing such a role.
No, you misunderstand, I want to blow up all the P4 and shuffle all the teams into equal strength conferences. You could still call them the SEC, B1G, BigXII, ACC or PAC or whatever. At this point, why not just go all in, fuckin torch the whole system and raise a truly better one
Yea that's fantasy land. Seems fairly obvious at this point that we'll eventually have the SEC and B1G at about 18-20 teams each and they'll just do their own thing and take all the money. Everyone else will be left to play amongst themselves in obscurity.
What an abjectly dogshit opinion. If anything, quarterfinals should be home games too. Reward the top teams. Move the schedule up a week so the semis are still at the NY6 bowls.
Cool so you think my system would work. Wins and losses matter. Win your division and your in. Seeded by records and other tie breakers. No committees anywhere
Having what will most likely be games of minimal meaning in the end on college campuses >>> one or two of those games giving a few extra points’ advantage to the higher seed. If anything, make the Round of 8 on campuses as well (but revisit the autoseeds).
I was clearly talking about when setting the bracket. I don't think anyone would have freaked out if Tennessee was 8 and OSU was 9 after the Michigan game.
Ohio State was woefully under-ranked. They have a top 3 resume. 2 top 10 wins 1 point loss on the road to the #1 team 3 point loss to rival
Yep, 100% it won’t happen. Too many old white dudes in charge of their little fiefdoms and bowl games and conference jobs. But, if we’re going this far into NFL lite with the playoffs and the NIL, why not just go all the way.
My point remains, they could have very easily been 7 (9 in the bracket). We're talking 1 spot and that determines a huge advantage.
Anyone in here now or in other threads over the years of the CFP who complains about “fairness” of the system; mine is the only actual fair system. If you don’t agree, you’re just complaining about the current system not being biased in your favor
Ohio State should’ve been #3 with their resume behind only Oregon and SEC Champ. That puts em at 5 seed. Dbl arguing they could easily be 9, smh. Watch ball, know ball.
We have 1 year of data on playoff games. Comparing a playoff game @ OSU or Texas or UGA or Oregon to Purdue @ Maryland in September is laughable. I think over time we'll see the playoff home field is worth a good bit more than the typical 3-4 points for random 3rd tier atmospheres.
I dont care who you put at 8, we're talking 1 spot between 8 and 9. Flip OSU and PSU and have PSU at 8. Now you're picking between PSU and Tennessee for 8/9 and one get a massive advantage. You're too caught up in this year to see the bigger picture. That 8/9 spot is more often than not going to be a coin flip for seeding and one gets a massive advantage.
Maybe you can ask some Vegas bookies for specific home field advantage edges for Ohio State vs an average B1G team like Iowa/Washington to help make your point?
Moving the goalposts from West Lafeyette to College Park and up a month. Are you referencing something with these comparisons or did you make this up yourself?
No idea, that's why I said "I think we'll see over time it's more than the traditional 3-4 points for a cfb game."
Yes, bc those irrelevant games are averaged into the "home field is worth 3-4 points" argument. I think some home fields are worth more and the playoffs up it even more imo. We'll see over the next few years.
I get that, some are more than others, but playoff games will be the best of the best atmospheres and I think the home field advantage will bigger than normal.
