That’s what mine is
We bought both our doodles from farm families that bred them for pets. I get the hate but at the time it was the only way to get a dog with my wife.
If we get another we will rescue but at this point my wife says no more dogs. She is too attached to ours and says she can’t deal with the thought of losing one.
The uniquely problematic part of breeding doodles (and other designer "breeds") is the disproportionate waste. Like that post alluded to, to make doodles, they're overbreeding additional source breeds against demand. You end up with a glut of dogs from breeds people really aren't clamoring to have who end up pretty much exclusively in puppy mill situations. That sucks.
Still, as much fun as I make of people on here for being too toxically masculine to admit they just want a standard poodle, there's nothing wrong with you, your dog, or your having your dog. Speaking from experience, rescues can be tough and don't always fit into someone's family needs. There's no purely ethical consumption, so just do the best that you can do.
Woke Benny up to tell him that Dump was talking shit about him again. He clearly gives the same number of fucks that I do.
Yeah I never argue with people who want to use an ethical responsible breeder for certain situations.
My neighbors are great people, they have 5 kids and they didn't want to take a chance on a dog with an unknown past and future temperament, so they bought a yellow lab pup from a breeder.
Having seen rescue dogs flip and go crazy from some past trauma that we had no way of knowing about, i totally get that.
Same for people who have their heart set on certain breeds that almost never make it to rescue, or if they do get snapped up and adopted out immediately by breed-specific groups. Choose a responsible breeder and go get it.
But as you said, the doodle thing creates so much waste and for so many people who want them it isn't about the breed at all, and its so frustrating to be in rescue and see so many great dogs languish in shelters and die everyday while people want these designer breeds that are really mutts themselves. I get all the reasons, just frustrating, sometimes irrational, sometimes not.
Here’s our Aussie Doodle. We have a Golden Doodle as well. She’s my best friend
Here’s our almost 12 year old goldendoodle and the almost year old Aussie doodle. Both basically puppies. The golden is my best friend.
I paid 2500 for Groot from a family who breed their two family bulldogs exactly once and had a litter of 3. None have had any health issues. I love bulldogs but understand everything that goes with breeding them. I go back and forth on whether I’ll get another one currently I have zero regrets of getting him. I love This dog and would have paid anything for him.
He’s fucking gorgeous. Layla is a month away from turning 1 - has been a wild ride.
They are called mutts
Not 'blank' doodles
It's a mutt
I grilled today and he was right with me like always. TIL if it’s green this fool will eat it. Feed him green beans, grilled Brussels sprouts, lettuce and tomatoes. It’s cool to know I can go buy a bunch a f veggies and give them to him as treats. I’ve loved all my dogs (obviously) but I think he is the one who has been the most attached to me.
not that is anything wrong with a “mutt” it’s just a mixed breed doggo.
I'm just tired of it being glamorized
Glad we can have this bullshit conversation again. No one is arguing that it’s not a mutt.
Tell that to my neighbor who had a labradorite, or the other one who has a spangledoodle, or the other fucking doodle
i’ve never once heard pronoun arguments for dogs
is this a thing?
not sure if serious. I don’t think anyone who has a “doodle” calls it a mutt will say they spent 2000 for a mutt.
I call mine mutts all the time. And I damn sure didn’t pay $2000 for mine.
Those that buy “designer” doggos are like you.
Happy to report that we had our second opinion and they did not recommend amputation, so our sweet Iris got to keep her leg and found an amazing family in the span of a week. Loved this one big time, one of the harder ones to let go actually.
Long story short. As I have mentioned before Flash (our female) has had seizures since she has been a pup. So we try to give her an extremely comfortable life with a long leash. She can basically get away with anything. She sometimes has problems walking so basically we take her down to do her business and after that she is ready to come up right away. For that reason she doesn’t wear a collar inside and we just slip the collar and leash on her when we are taking her down. It’s loose because I don’t want it to choke her at all. So we slip it on and off when we take her down. Unfortunately, for that reason it comes off extremely easy and she is equal parts smart and stubborn when it does she won’t move a muscle. She becomes frozen in time. Anyway here is my butterball after it came off and she refused to walk the 20-30 feet to the dumpster. First picture is when it came off and second is her stuck in time.
My dog has developed a rash in between his legs that kind of seems like jock itch or maybe a bad case of ringworm. Does this merit a trip to the vet or should I just rub him down with lotrimin or something? It doesn't seem to bothering him but it looks uncomfortable.
Darwin has always been terrified of water. He would standing long jump 6' to make sure he cleared a deadly 1' puddle. Fear of water tends to be a breed trend. Since we moved down to the Wichitas I've been slowly luring him in. Letting him drink. Throwing rocks and sticks a few feet out. Been making some serious progress the last few days and so proud of the boy. He went out chest deep, stuck his head under water and brought back a sunken stick. I'd thrown a rock but accuracy was not the point of the exercise.
Happy, happy first birthday to this very good boy!
wes tegg is back in the White House
Cedric had a checkup today and didn't like the butt stuff.
That's a horse
We watched Bad Vegan the other night and I gotta say, the whole going off the deep end to make your dog live forever thing . . . I get it.
There was a fake instagram ad for perpetualpup.org that took you to a promotion for the film. I clicked it like five times before I realized what was going on.
He doesn't seem that big around the house bc we see him daily but when we go out and he's around other people and dogs I can't help but lol.
Neighbor kids love him.
The goodest of girls lost her battle with bone cancer on Monday. She was an awesome member of our family and a huge blessing to our family. We don’t deserve dogs and the way they love us. RIP Shadow and thank you.
Sorry for your loss. It's just the worst.
That's a lot of info on his nametag.
So sorry for your loss. She looks like a beautiful old soul. I know she'll be missed.
Looks like just blurry to me
Flash has had multiple seizures today and I guess that’s called a seizure cluster. I’m afraid To take her to the vet because I think I know what they’re going to tell me. I am too much of a coward to take her because I don’t want to hear it. I love my girl and am about to cry like a little kid. Fuck.
Damn that's tough. Do what's best for her though. You owe her that, as tough as it is. Might not be as bad as you think too.
I don't know your situation but my brother has experience with an epileptic dog and I know he found a vet where they were able to get the seizures nearly under control. Most vets just wanted to do the same thing which generally resulted in no change, I'll have to ask him what happened when she basically stopped having seizures for the most part. If you're even interested. You'll also have to remind me tomorrow as my ambien has taken control and this post took 10 minutes to write after trying to correct spellling snafus.
My Boxer passed away a few weeks ago. RIP Denny.
Thinking about getting this Boxer/Mastiff mix from the same place.
Denny lived to be a healthy 12.5 years.
He is a little over a year old.
I cried my face off when spock died, and I remember that you were one of the first to say how much you understood, there is nothing you can do but to make her feel as comfortable as she can be for as long as you can. So my advice would be to go, but I understand your feeling.
When I took Denny to the vet to be put to sleep, sad to say, it was kinda like a big relief lifted off my shoulders. That's what the Vet told me and she was right.
I cried like a baby
There’s some bad cats making bad cat sex noises across the street. Ever vigilant, Carlos is gonna stay over here on this side and not do a thing about the bad cats until there’s a dozen of em running around leaving little treats in my yard. He’s playing the long game.
