i think the original is one of the more underrated games of this generation and has been supported by the devs every single year since release. Excited to see what they’re gonna bring to the table in the sequel.
The original was one of the very first games I had on the One and I remember liking it a lot. Will probably grab this one too and give it a go
ACG had a lot of good things to say about it, but did say the story had some issues. Gameplay looks great, and he said he was surprised at how polished it all feels
Is it bad? A couple of the reviews a saw made note of it being buggy but were clear that it was Cyberpunk type of bad. Was hoping that there being a Day 1 patch would fix a lot of that.
Being able to switch between performance and quality without reloading is nice and should be in more console games
So far I've had occasional frame drops here and there, usually in settlements. Also, had a weird bug where I opened a door to talk to an NPC and instead of stopping to talk to him, I got uncomfortably close to his crotch while carrying on the conversation. Other than that, it has been really smooth. No issues at all during exploring and combat.
How is it guys? Definitely wanna play it but I think I’m gonna wait until some patches drop. Overall good though?
I honestly like it a lot. Put in about 20 hours over the weekend and I’m still really interested in exploration and the gameplay loop. Some glitches but it’s not nearly as bad as early reviews made it out. I definitely recommend it. I will say that I have big problems with the weapons
Yes but unlike the first game there are no repair kits. You can repair a weapon by adding mods but then they break again and are gone. I haven’t got any weapon blueprints yet and that might make it more tolerable but so far it’s a bit of a nuisance. it does however make an actual working economy in the game unlike the first one where money was useless pretty early on
For whatever reason this game just isn't grabbing me. I enjoyed the first one a lot more. Not a fan of a lot of the changes made.
Thoughts so far Spoiler Think I'm about halfway through (I've made it to the second area. Story- Forgettable, but overall fine so far. Not going to set the world on fire with it's narrative, but it has some decent humor and voice acting. Side Content- The parkour and combat challenges are fantastic. Climbing the windmills is your typical vantage point thing in open world games, but there aren't too many of them and they actually take some skills/thinking to get to the top of them. There are also different activities and places to go that are better at a certain time of day, but going at the wrong time can be fun too. Gameplay- This is one of the more enjoyable open world experiences I've ever had. The world feels so alive, and the difference in night and day time is absolutely incredible. Feels like 2 different games. Combat started out just okay, but with all the upgrades and integration of parkour into it, it's starting to grow on me a lot. Speaking of the parkour, it's just so damn good. I've died so many times from testing my limits of what I can reach because it's fun as hell just traversing the world. Thankfully, the respawn system is very forgiving and you don't lose much. Allows you to go nuts with the parkour. Smoother parkour means better xp, so there are definitely incentives to test things out. Technical- Tested out resolution and performance mode, and can't see myself playing this on 30fps. It's just not worth it with how fast the movement is. Even at 60, there are times you can tell it is not as smooth as it should be. They said they're adding motion blur options, so hopefully that will help out some. As far as performance, you can tell this game was made initially for last gen consoles. Personally, I've had very minimal bugs and haven't had anything gamebreaking. From the vibe I get reading others experiences, it seems like people aren't having as many issues as some were led to believe they would have. I'm guessing that Day 1 patch is the culprit. TL;DR- moment to moment gameplay is so good that I honestly don't care about the average story and occasional technical issues that pop up. Traversal is spider-man tier good, and combat is deep if you want it to be. Definitely not a Cyberpunk, where the world felt empty, either. Also nowhere close to the amount of bugs, at least personally.
I never played the first. What's different that you've noticed? I wonder if me not playing the first is allowing me to enjoy this one a little more.
The economy being so good, and the weapon variety and selection feeling almost endless makes me not be too upset at the weapon degradation system with the lack of repairing. I always have money to buy good weapons, and it seems like I never have a shortage of good weapons in my inventory. It's actually making me switch and test out all the different weapon types. Normally not a 2H weapon type of guy, but it feels really good to swing a big ax and watch like 3 enemies explode. A repair option would be nice so I can save weapons I really like, though.
The weapon system felt better in the first. There were true legendaries you could find. Since you could repair them they were only found in one place. There was just a better sense of exploration for me. I will say there wasn't much reason to go out at night in the first so it's nice they incentivized that. The game just feels last gen though and early last gen at that. Pretty below average visuals and the combat isn't doing much for me.
I would love some legendary weapons that don't break, honestly. I agree about it feeling last gen, and there's nothing really revolutionary here. The actual stand in front of enemies and swing type combat isn't really great at all, but I've been jumping off walls, swinging off stuff, and sprinting to pick up throwables while fighting big groups. That has been enjoyable to me.
IIRC the first game had a machete you could find that never broke Hope they have something similar in this one
The one thing I really like in this one is the true class based gear functionality. Hopefully they quickly add some unique boss battles for co op (which they definitely will) so it can be better utilized.
I like the decisions so far. There was one that didn't include the appropriate decision choice, in my opinion. They probably would have gotten backlash if one of the options was to murder 2 piece of shit kids, so it's understandable.
There was a sword in the first one called Excalibur that was awesome. There was also this electricity sword that was almost like a light saber. But maybe I just haven't got far enough into it. I'll play for like 30 mins and stop. Just can't stick to it.
Theres definitely unique weapons like that. You get them in the form of blueprints so you can craft them again after the break.
I’m where you are to an extent but for some reason I just dig these titles. Some early rewards would make it a better time for sure. You do get to scavenge some artifact items early on and that’s cool but you really cant find anything truly unique.
I've really never liked any game with durability on weapons. It basically killed Breath of the Wild for me.
I feel like it would be so much better if the weapons just were outleveled by the enemies. You’d still to buy new ones and you wouldn’t have to worry about one breaking and disappearing midway through a dungeon
Starting to have some cutscene bugs that are kind of annoying. Walking through walls, characters turning their back from me kind of stuff
About to crank it up and dabble for the first time. I’m not expecting much, so that may be good thing
You can repair weapons by adding mods to them. They restore durability. So I space them apart. Use it bare for awhile. Add a mod which repairs. Use it it til it drops below the value and then do it again. This may be known but I noticed some discussion on it earlier.
Most people I’ve heard from say you’ll want to play through twice regardless because the story is vastly different for each. I believe PKs aid things like defenses against zombies while survivors add things to help parkour.
I'm now currently of the opinion that it is incredibly fun, but a technically flawed game. Characters are just doing whatever the hell they want during cutscenes, and I'm constantly clipping through them.
Probably getting close to the end of the story. Had a way better experience yesterday, no cutscene bugs. Makes me think just a reboot will fix it if you're having issues.
As long as you don't mind some dated looking visuals I bet it still holds up. They added a ton of stuff to it after I stopped playing as well.
Finished the story. Really only had issues that one night with bugs. Overall, really enjoyed it. Not perfect, but definitely worth playing if you're looking for a fun open world to mess around in. This was my favorite bug I encountered, btw
