I could see ESPN turning on a dime and criticizing UEFA for taking the decision out of the national FAs'/players' hands, they wanted to continue, they'd heard from Erikson by phone from the hospital, etc. I could also envision a postponed game also going Finland's way and somebody like Howard complaining that the game was replayed too soon, the Danish players didn't have enough time to get their heads right, yada yada because he seemed convinced that Denmark wouldashoulda won that game no matter what. I could also see people complaining that a postponed game wouldn't allow for sufficient rest time before their respective next games, and goshgolly if only Denmark had had three days' rest they'd have played better. ESPN has an interest in pushing angles and stories, no matter what actually happens on the pitch. I'm also old enough to remember Lawrence Taylor snapping Joe Theismann's leg like a matchstick and the game continuing. Freakish on-field injuries and medical situations happen. Once they knew Erikson was OK and in good hands, the reasons for postponing became less compelling.
It's not the postponement that would be criticized. It would be the alternative match dates offered with the postponement.
this has all the fingerprints of the "gambling industry" (and all that entails) forcing them back out there
There is a MASSIVE fucking difference between a leg break and a guy collapsing and requiring CPR on the field. Come the fuck on.
I guess what you laid out is possible, though I think all of those scenarios are pretty unrealistic. I will just say I don't think the Theismann injury is a good comparison at all. For one thing, it was 35 years ago. For another, his teammates didn't have to shield him while medics gave him CPR. A lot of shit that flew then doesn't today.
Did learn today that the reason for CPR/device can also to be to get an erratic heartbeat back to normal. Legit thought he had no pulse the whole time. I need some educating
Everyone that was at his side is a hero. He’s alive thanks to the medical personnel. That was a telltale cardiac arrest. I just don’t get this statement.
Just thinking, I’ve seen so many leg breaks…Ramsey, Eduardo, Dak, McGahee, Gordon Hayward, Paul George. Gross.
Kjaer seemed to watch the whole thing plus saving/helping him and consoling the partner. Fucking rock beyond belief that was a defining sports moment for me in a terrible/good way
Idk if I’ll ever forget the zoom in on his lifeless face. An unbelievable moment I hope we never see again. I really thought once CPR started that we were watching him die. Here’s to hoping he recovers and can live a normal life after this. Soccer or not, just be there for his kids.
trippier at LB with Shaw on the bench and chilwell not making the 23 is peak southgate but how sancho doesn’t make the bench is equally shocking. Nothing should totally surprise you from an awful coach though.
Thought that was an interesting decision as well. Trippier is in probably the best form of all their fullbacks though, probably would’ve gone he and Shaw
Southgate managing my club team would drive me up the fucking wall. Nevertheless, nothing can stop football from coming home
How much better would this team be with tripper at right back, chilwell or Shaw at left back and grealish for sterling
