Disclaimer: I think Bucky Brooks is really dumb, but this is his Mock 2.0 Falcons pick: Adoree Jackson - CB, USC: The Falcons could use some more sizzle in the return game. Jackson certainly provides that and gives the Dirty Birds another feisty defender to add to the secondary.
Yea.... It's not what I want either. I really don't understand where he's coming from with that at all.
It might honestly be what we need least. That guy is collecting a check from the NFL Network, though. Has to be a troll, right?
Good news. I loved the way he played down the stretch. You have to think he'll only get better in year two playing as an interior DL
Upshaw has been tremendous and I'm happy that he's finally put it together. Anyone see that we offered Calais Campbell something like 3/31 with $17 mil guaranteed and he scoffed at us?
5 free agents the Atlanta Falcons should target Cameron DaSilva @camdasilva Mar 3, 2017 at 8:22a ET The Atlanta Falcons are coming off their best season in recent memory, one that should have ended with a Super Bowl title. That’s been a discussion for about a month now, so it’s time for the team to turn its attention to 2017 – namely free agency. With the new league year just a week away, the Falcons look stacked across the board once again. The main pieces of their offense will remain intact, and the defense has a boatload of young talent. That doesn’t mean they’re perfect, though, as there are still a couple of holes that need to be filled. Here are five players who can help fill them when free agency begins next week. Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports Denny Medley 5 FB Patrick DiMarco (Falcons) It’s not often a fullback is a team’s priority in free agency, but DiMarco isn’t your typical player at that position. He’s a big part of the offense, having made the Pro Bowl in back-to-back seasons. Because fullbacks are devalued in today’s NFL, he won’t cost the Falcons much to re-sign, but his impact on the offense is apparent. Ryan loves hitting him in the passing game, while he’s also a good lead blocker for Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. The Falcons have to bring him back. Kim Klement Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports 4 TE Jared Cook (Packers) Austin Hooper played extremely well as a rookie, looking like he could be the future at tight end for the Falcons. However, to bridge the gap and give Atlanta another option at that spot, signing Cook should be in the fold. He missed a significant amount of time due to injury, but once he returned, we all saw the impact he had on Green Bay’s offense. He opens up opportunities for other receivers by commanding attention from safeties due to his speed, which would only help guys like Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu. Cook would be an affordable addition and another weapon for Ryan. USA TODAY Sports Brett Davis 3 DE Jabaal Sheard (Patriots) The Falcons have one dominant pass rusher in Vic Beasley, but the opposite side is a bit weak. Sheard is good against both the run and the pass, and while his production was limited in 2016, he was outstanding for the Patriots two years ago. ideally, the Falcons would have added a guy like Chandler Jones or Jason Pierre-Paul, but that’s no longer possible due to the franchise tag. Sheard would be a cheaper option while still having the potential to put up eight-plus sacks in 2017. Isaiah J. Downing Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports 2 DT Dontari Poe (Chiefs) Grady Jarrett looks like a stud at one defensive tackle position, but the Falcons need help at the other. Poe is your prototypical nose tackle in a 3-4, but there’s no doubt he’d be able to step in right away at 1-technique and improve Atlanta’s run defense. He’s a much bigger body than Jarrett, but he can also get after the quarterback from his spot on the inside. Considering most of Atlanta’s sacks come from Beasley on the edge, that would be a huge boost to the defense. Troy Taormina USA TODAY Sports 1 G T.J. Lang (Packers) Chris Chester was the weakest link on Atlanta’s offensive line last season, and he’s due to be replaced. If he walks in free agency, the Falcons can upgrade at that spot with Lang, who’s still recovering from a significant injury at the end of last season. He may not get on-field work until training camp, but that could drive his price down a bit. He’d be a good upgrade to Atlanta’s offensive line, which is already fairly strong across the board. USA TODAY Sports Jeff Hanisch
There's probably a 1% chance we sign Dontarie Poe but it would be amazing if we did. I'll take Sheard too but no thanks on Cook
Just saw this "DiMarco previously expressed a desire to remain in Atlanta, but he also understands the reality of the business. The Falcons certainly won't overspend at the fullback position. DiMarco made $860,000 last season. Kansas City's Anthony Sherman topped all fullbacks in average per year based on the three-year, $7 million extension he signed in 2014 that included some $3 million guaranteed. The Falcons will have competition for DiMarco. A league source said the 49ers are expected to make a push for DiMarco if he hits free agency. Shanahan, the Falcons' offensive coordinator the last two seasons and now the 49ers' head coach, valued DiMarco's contribution and needs a fullback to run his scheme."
Fwiw they told him at the end of 2015 season that they were willing to pay him his asking/what he deserved after his contract was up. His agent wanted to renegotiate at that time but the Falcons wanted to wait. Which I don't disagree with on either end. Though with Shanahan leaving it could drive that price up with two teams really interested
I imagine he would want to stay on a Super Bowl contender and closer to his family/school over joining that dumpster fire of an organization in San Fransico, but at the end of the day money talks.
He'd much rather be in Atlanta. But he also realizes that his head/body can't take the abuse forever and maximizing your earnings is important. Think it would still take a lot of money to get him to San Francisco, and it's more like the San Francisco bid just earns him more money in Atlanta
Sounds like Charles Harris had a really good showing at the combine. I think that's probably the pick assuming he's there.
It's probably a 1a 1b situation. I think we need to sign a guard in FA. Then we need to draft a pass rusher and a S.
I agree. Id be fine with either, but I really think Quinn's defense needs a center fielder to really be where we want it. This draft is deep as shit at pass rusher and db though, so we can probably get starters at both positions round 1-3
I like Wilson a lot but if we take a safety in the first, I prefer for him to be a true safety like Baker or the kid from Utah. I guess Quinn does have a good track record with projects though. Still think pass rusher is the play and then go safety in round 2
Develin is resigning with New England. No word on the money yet but I imagine that'll set the tone for what we offer DiMarco
Exactly. 1st - Pass rusher I'm wondering if we sign a guard in FA? Chester is as good as gone. Mentioned this to someone else just now, but what about Luke Willson at TE? Assuming he's fairly cheap.
I'd rather do that than overpay a guy like Bennett. I'd also like to draft a guard. TD's history keeps me skeptical in free agency.
Still trying to suppress the pain, but it is nice feeling actually good about our roster for once. Quinn, and Dimitroff (give him his credit), hit so damn well on the past draft.
I really like our roster a lot. We are about to lock up Trufant. Julio isn't going anywhere. We need to get younger on the interior DL to go with Hegeman and Grady. Then add another pass rusher. LB is set with Jones and Campbell - could use another one. OL we need another guard. Just seems like we are setup really fucking well right now.
meh, i like it, give allen one more year to stop fucking around and maybe the light will come on like it did JC
