Fargo: Ewan McGregor to star in season 3

    http://www.ew.com/article/2016/05/20/fargo-ewan-mcgregor

Fargo season three has found its leading man.

Ewan McGregor has been cast in the starring role of FX’s Emmy-winning anthology drama – two starring roles, in fact.

Because the Star Wars and Trainspotting star isn’t just playing one part in the series. He’s been cast as two brothers, Emmit and Ray Stussy, who are at the center of the story (and no, they’re not twins).

Here’s some official description of his characters, which marks the first description of any kind of the show’s mysterious third edition: “Emmit Stussy is the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. A handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man, Emmit sees himself as an American success story. His slightly younger brother, Ray Stussy, on the other hand is more of a cautionary tale. Balding, pot-bellied, Ray is the kind of guy who peaked in high school. Now a parole officer, Ray has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt, and he blames his brother, Emmit, for his misfortunes.”

Previously, Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley said the new season would be set in 2010, a few years after the events in season 1. The writer-producer also hinted that one other character from a previous season might return, though nobody else has yet been cast. Fargoseason 3 will begin production later this year and will air sometime in 2017.

For McGregor, this will mark his first TV series regular role. He’s also is starring in and making his directorial debut in the upcoming film American Pastoral and is currently in production on T2: Trainspotting 2.

Ewan McGregor as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota? We can’t wait for this

Carrie Coon-heads? Carrie-aniacs? Well, fans of Vulture's best TV actress of the year, whatever they're called, should rejoice, as Coon will be the female lead in Fargo's third season. Coon will play Gloria Burgle, a chief of police and "a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics," which is either an elaborate metaphor, or a hint thatFargo's going to tackle the dangers of brunch. Either way, Gloria is "struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them." Ewan McGregor is also starring as twin brothers. Production is slated to begin later this year, giving Coon plenty of time to return from Australia, whereshe's shooting The Leftovers.

Apparently Mary Elizabeth Winstead is going to be in season 3 as well. Only found that out just now by looking at the show's season 3 Wiki page. Looks like that was made public about a month ago... http://www.ew.com/article/2016/09/16/fargo-mary-elizabeth-winstead

Sidenote - Hawley is also doing a Marvel show for FX called Legion. Guess it's X-Men related. I don't do a lot of the superhero stuff so my only hope is it doesn't take away from his ability to maintain Fargo's greatness.

Harry Potter Alum David Thewlis Cast for Fargo Season Three
    By Joe Allen | December 19, 2016 | 4:59pm

Fargo’s third season just keeps getting better. After adding Ewan McGregor (who’s playing twin brothers) and The LeftoversCarrie Coon, the show has now announced that David Thewlis will also be joining the third season’s cast.

Thewlis, a veteran actor who’s had roles in everything from Anomalisa to The Theory of Everything, is perhaps most well-known for his portrayal of Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series. On Fargo, Thewlis is slated to play “a mysterious loner and true capitalist who delivers Emmit (McGregor), the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, the bad news that he has just become partners with his employers, whose business interests lay outside the law.”

Thewlis’ loner character will go by the name V.M. Vargas, another wonderful addition to Noah Hawley’s universe of terrific Fargo names. The forthcoming third season will be set in 2010, just a few years after the events of season one, and several decades after season two. The third season is set to be released in the spring of 2017.

Wrapping up S2 right now. I'm willing to say that this is the best television series I've watched since Breaking Bad. S1 was awesome. Season 2 kicked it into another gear. Holy shit.

Last I read it was supposed to be around 2010. Guy could just have a classic Corvette in 2010 and the hair and clothes can be explained away by it being the upper midwest.

FX has released two more teaser trailers for the third season of “Fargo,” one including the entire main cast and both of Ewan McGregor’s characters.

Set in 2010, McGregor plays Emmit, the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, who sees himself as an American success story. Ray, meanwhile, lives in his more successful brother’s shadow – a balding and pot-bellied parole officer with a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt – and he blames his brother.

Their sibling rivalry follows a twisted path that begins with petty theft but soon leads to murder, mobsters and cut-throat competitive bridge. The series returns Wednesday, April 19th.

I don't think it's ever going to come up again. It could but I think it was more just Hawley wanting to establish that this is a story. It was right after that scene as they transitioned through the picture to Minnesota that it showed the "this is a true story" thing and then only "story" lingered.

Really enjoyed it. Some thoughts in spoiler

-I love that they killed another relatively known actor in the premiere. It's almost defiance on Hawley's behalf. "Surely they're not going to kill Scoot McNairy off.""Fuck you, yes we are!"

-Could anyone make out the book titles in Inis' lockbox?

-If Inis was a Stussy does that make Carrie Coon Ray and Emmitt's cousin?

    -Thewlis crushed it

-Only Fargo could have stamp theft as an inciting incident
