ESPN did a few short documentaries leading up to the 2014 World Cup: “Hillsborough” “Maradona ’86” “The Opposition” “The Myth of Garrincha” “Ceasefire Massacre” “Mysteries of the Rimet Trophy” “Barbosa: The Man Who Made Brazil Cry” “White, Blue and White” I watched all of them and my favorites were Hillsborough, The Opposition (it's about Chile's dictatorship) and Ceasefire Massacre.
I've also watched "One Night in Turin" which is available on Netflix and I don't know if you would consider it a documentary or more of a series, but the "Football Factories" and "International Football Factories" series was amazing.
Le Mano de Dios is pretty good too, it's in Spanish though so most will have to find a subtitled version.
Becoming Zlatan is fantastic. I particularly enjoyed him shitting on the idea of playing English football.
Next week's on Viceland's Rivals show they will feature the Argentinian Superclasico : Boca Juniors v River Plate. I HIGHLY recommend you watch/record this episode. They did a great job with the first episode last night on Miami Liberty City youth football.
Les Blues The French National Team 1996-2016. Really good but in French. It's on Netflix. Copa90 and Kick youtube channels have plenty of good 10 to 25 min mini-docs.
For anyone in the general NYC area, Scandinavia House is hosting four nights of documentaries that look awesome next month. "Kicking + Screening 2017"
