Did you watch it? I’m well over due for a re-watch, it’s such a killer film
my favorite kind of movie
I just checked and looks like it’s free on Prime as well. May have to check it out and the other from the Oldboy director.
Yeah it’s not on Mubi I had to watch it in prime
Phantom Thread(9.5/10)- pretty slow but I feel like it needs to be. So many excruciating silences and non-verbal moments. The score and sounds of the movie are really great: scraping toast, chewing, clattering dishes driving Woodcock insane. Super Oedipal movie with an ending that's both happy and dark. Don't know if I'll rewatch anytime soon but enjoyed it. PTA is the best American director.
White House Down (6/10) - really fun movie. Incredibly stupid plot but you're in on the joke a little bit. President Jamie Foxx shoots an RPG out of the the presidential limo driven by dumb guy Channing Tatum while it's doing donuts on the front lawn of the Whitehouse.
Phantom thread slaps
Also, if you don't even have Prime, streaming on Fox's free platform - no login required.
Man I can’t recommend Burning enough it’s one that will stick with you
watched Banshees last night. Watching Everything everywhere all at once tonight. Seeing Scream in theaters Thursday. Then watching Tar ahead of the Oscars on Sunday.
Everything everywhere was interesting and imaginative with how it was shot. But the sci fi aspect of it was a bit much for me
This looks, ummm, interesting
J-Law needs a successful movie. hopefully it works as she steps out of her shell
I don't understand the hype for that movie. I saw it in the theater and didn't think it was very good. I watched it again a few weeks ago and it still did nothing for me. I appreciate what they were going for and the acting was fine, but the final result wasn't anything special to me. The humor was so bad too imo.
I like the movie but it’s not in my top 5 from last year.
I'll be brave and say I thought EEAAO was great. superb acting, very funny, imaginative, and sweet. I can understand how it's a little too cute for people but that's Kwan's thing.
I agree with everything except “very funny”. I think the main three characters are extraordinarily acted and that makes the film the most worthwhile for me
ya, some of the humor fell a bit flat.
the object turned into a dildo, lol!!!
but it was really well acted.
I’m into weirdness in film (huge Terry Gilliam fan) but sometimes EEAAO felt like it was being weird for the sake of it. I know that’s an unpopular opinion and I really wanted it to be the masterpiece everyone was saying it was but it didn’t hit for me like Banshees or Nope or the Fabelmans did
watching Tar this weekend, but the last two films on my list from 2022 that I feel I must see are Fabelmans and Nope. Excited to watch em both.
I think that's just Daniel Kwan's thing. It's more surrealist than indulgent even if a few things are a cheap laugh imo. It's not everyone's taste more than it's poorly implemented.
There's a weird amount of self-serious twitter contrarians about this movie for some reason.
Nope was pretty mid
I didn't like Nope, do need to see Fabelmans but doubt i get it done before the Oscars. Tar doesn't really move the needle for me as something I want to see.
Tar is worth it if only for Blanchett, but I enjoyed it.
EEAAO was fantastic and I won’t entertain differing opinions
I also didn’t really enjoy Nope
Gets a big Nope from me too ...
also team EEAAO was by a decent margin the best movie I saw this year and I saw it the first time on a plane screen
I still like the movie I just didn’t really vibe with the weirdness as much so I guess that’s fair.
I don’t really get the Twitter comment and maybe I just don’t Twitter as much as most but the only thing I got from socials was that this was the greatest movie ever made
I also really don’t get the Nope hate out there. That quiet tension mixed with moments of spectacle really kicks ass to me. It’s my favorite Peele movie
I found it p boring to be honest
Thought it was boring and that Jordan Peele needs to pick a metaphor and stick with it. I wanted to like it because I loved Us and Get Out
I think I need to watch EEAAO again, i saw it in a theater on opening day, so clearly it was a while ago. I liked it a lot and know it has had great reviews, just still not convinced it's a best picture compared to prior winners. I think i should watch Banshees again, too, and with the assistance of subtitles available at home ;)
Yet, this is not a great field to be honest and before anyone asks, yes I have seen all 10 nominees--most in the theater--and one I saw multiple times (Top Gun, of course). I wouldn't be surprised if EEAAO won among this field and wouldn't have an issue with it, but i don't have a favorite that I really want to win compared to some prior years. I will mention that I also thought Women Talking was really good with great acting altogether and would recommend seeing it despite it not being an easy subject matter.
I didn't hate Nope but I was disappointed that it wasn't better. I kept waiting for something big to happen and it never felt like it got there.
Green Book is a standard most films pale in comparison to
I'm very surprised that people are convinced EEAAO is going to win best picture. It's the least "academy" movie on the list.
It's no Shape of Water!
I see people say the same thing about Banshees. Idk man I guess I’m more suited for the slow burn than the more in your face style
the second half of EEAAO was special imo. i stopped trying to understand the rules of the world and the conflict (or maybe i finally understood it) and just enjoyed the ride. very smart, funny, and emotional.
tar is good. blanchett is spectacular.
When you finish tar you owe it to yourself to rewatch the first scene. I thought it was really great but unbelievably slow.
I really liked Banshees and never once felt bored, i also just mentioned that I enjoyed Tar, so I don’t need movies to be in my face.
Yeah it did not need to be 2 hours and 40 minutes. Same for triangle of sadness, although I’d rewatch Tar before that damn movie
That’s fine and I wasn’t trying to assign that opinion to you ijs that I really enjoyed Nope and Banshees and I see people saying they’re both boring all the time. That criticism doesn’t work for me personally
it dominated every single award show that is predictive of the Oscars. it's the most likely best picture nominee going into the show since like Return of the King
Banshees was a lot more focused than Nope and had 4 amazing performances.
theres been so many bad best picture winners EEAAO would be in the top half all time
It’s definitely either EEAAO or the Fabelmans for best picture. I’m interested in the acting categories and would love to see Colin Farrel and Barry Keoghan win
I thought Kerry Condon was as good as anyone in that movie.
