JT is so good. We are all so accustomed to comparing young players to Tiger, but that is unfair. JT is amazing.
He's already great and hasn't hit his peak. It isn't surprising that he's the "young gun" Tiger has taken under his wing.
sort of Spieth won as many times as JT before he was 25 and more big wins, then he just fell apart. That won't happen to JT but he also doesn't have the big wins yet.
Hey buddy, if Spieth wins 2 tournaments in the next 2 months he'll hit 13 wins at a younger age! His game is coming together!
Yeah I wouldn't write Spieth off yet. Also yes, JT is unbelievably good. Also helps that's he legitimately has a great personality and is a genuinely nice guy.
Nah if you’re a 35 I’ve got an Evnroll for you. And if you’re a 33 I’ve got a Scotty you. Spoiler or you could just look into Seymour putters like I’m planning on purchasing.
Ok, and JT is more talented, but 3 majors can't just be taken for granted. There are all these players that are so talented that people assign multiple majors as their benchmark and there just aren't that many to go around. That's why Brooks and Jordan are so impressive because they have stacked a few when no one else has. A lot of people picking off one the last few years and no one else stacking multiple.
Some quick thoughts on Bandon and then the full blown recap in the spoiler -There’s a shuttle on property so you never have to drive while there unless you want to. We used our rental car every day to keep stuff in it and have more flexibility but there were so many shuttles that it didn’t look like people ever waited long. -We didn’t do that much drinking but there are a lot of groups there going hard. One group went too hard either the night before or morning of our Friday round at Sheep and someone spewed on 17 tee. -36 holes a day is a lot but I started running quite a bit when we booked the trip and I felt really good the whole time. When I woke up Sunday morning I probably could have gone for more but I was also not upset that I didn’t need to be active at all that day. -Change socks between rounds. This was one perk of us having the car/going back to the room to eat, we could change and kick our shoes off for a while. Neither of us had any issues with blisters. -I called in a specific caddie request but didn’t get either guy. We were very happy with our guy though, he’s worked all over at some high profile clubs and was every bit a professional, even got a bag for someone in the US Am next week. I’d absolutely request him for our next trip. We were paired with a couple singles who both had young guys assigned to them and I would have been pretty pissed if they were my caddie. Seemed incredibly disinterested in the round and hardly talked at all. I think if you don’t have a specific caddie in mind, the play would be to call caddie services and just tell them you’d like a senior caddie. -We went during the most expensive time of the year but it was very much worth it. On our last day several employees mentioned that it was some of the nicest weather they’ve ever experienced there, about 70 degrees and very clear with a slight breeze. -Final tally from Wednesday night through Saturday: 95,777 steps and 50.9 miles covered Spoiler That place is such an incredible experience and so well run. Every employee there makes it seem like the #1 goal is to make sure you’re enjoying your trip and they go out of their way to be helpful and courteous. Not only were we spoiled with the weather all week, we were especially spoiled with lodging. I booked us in a Lily Pond double at $430 per night; supposed to be just a basic double hotel room. Not sure why, but when we checked in they said we were in a Chrome Lake loft. These rooms have a full living room and two bedrooms with king beds, along with two bathrooms and are advertised at $690 per night. We flew into Medford at 1 on Wednesday. That airport is tiny so getting the bags and rental car didn’t take long at all. We hit up grocery and liquor store there in town to get supplies before hitting the road at about 2. The drive took right at 3 hours because it’s mostly on smaller rural highways, so lots of changing speeds and winding roads. Get to the resort right about 5 and checked in then went to the room to relax for a bit after traveling. Headed to the practice center which was completely empty to hit some balls and putts then teed off on Preserve at 6:45 as the last guaranteed finish time. Preserve is a ton of fun and you really don’t need anything longer than an 8 iron, maybe 7 if the wind is up. Finished our round here and ordered food to go from McKee’s before crashing. Thursday: morning at Pacific Dunes. We had some pretty thick fog early in the round but it all cleared out by late morning. There were some quirks on the course that I wasn’t a huge fan of and also had a little bit of mismanagement with the caddie not really knowing us yet and got into some trouble but overall I enjoyed the course. To say it’s my least favorite on property is still a high floor. We went back to the room for lunch and ate leftovers from the night before then went back to Bandon Trails. The course was fairly empty so we played just as a twosome and were moving well, played the front in about 1:30 before catching people around 12 or 13. We both loved this course. It’s definitely true that these courses are the two hardest walks and we were pretty wiped out but hit the Punch Bowl for a bit before McKee’s at 7:30 when we finally got to try the meat loaf. It’s amazing and perfect after a long day of walking. Friday: morning at Sheep Ranch. Again a little fog early that cleared as the day went on. I loved this course from the beginning. Aside from the coastal holes, the only real trouble are the gorse bushes and I somehow managed to find multiple. We grabbed a quick lunch to take back to the room then had Bandon Dunes that afternoon. It was pretty cloudy for the whole round and cooled off with some fog/very light mist towards the very end. That walk up the fourth when you get hit in the face with the ocean is incredible and I really liked this course. There were several teeing areas blocked off for the US Am in a couple weeks and it should play pretty tough from some of them. We hit Punch Bowl again which was a ton of fun since it was way less packed this time. Saturday: morning at Old Mac. I thoroughly enjoyed this course, a very easy walk and all the template holes make it very interesting. Lots of versatility in shots and this is really where the ground game gets important. I was a couple inches away from the best two putt of my life on 18 when I missed the slope on the punch bowl so I was on the top shelf of the green that’s not supposed to be in play. Went over to Sheep and got lunch there and sat on the patio waiting for our afternoon round. This was the most perfect weather possible. Not cloud in the sky and the breeze slightly picked up to about 15mph. We were able to do some whale watching up 16 and 17 while waiting between shots. That opening hole on Sheep where you come up the crest of the fairway and just see blue sky and ocean is something special.
From the left: Pac Dunes #17, Old Mac #18 in a terrible spot, crest of #1 fairway on Sheep, Sheep #6, Sheep #16, Sheep #9
I’ve used an overlapping grip my entire life and am thinking about switching to interlocking. Any real benefit to this or just all preference?
Shot a frustrating 45 on the first 9 because I couldn’t putt. Shot an even more frustrating 51 one on the back because I couldn’t putt or play from the bunker. Be back out there in the morning.
Work scramble today, hit 7-8 fairways over 18. Good number for me. Won long drive. Driver starting to settle in with a nice fade. Finished -7 on a tough track with a not great team. My iron game is embarrassingly terrible right now. But, it’s really solid on the range. Very frustrating. I shanked 4-5 shots with my irons. Something isn’t translating. Wondering if more forgiving irons would help or if I just need to keep grinding
When you’re on the range, do you always have a target or are you just swinging? Also, when you’re on the course, do you have any tension in your hands/arms/shoulders?
always have a target Really accentuate my swing, going slow, etc Much more relaxed on range and in the groove of iron after iron after iron I am pretty tense in the course, much more so than the range. Plus it’s getting in my head a bit that I am under swinging and leaving things short.
Also, on the range every lie is exactly the same. On the course, a perfectly flat lie is rare. Being able to adjust and compensate are huge factors in being able to strike it well on the actual course.
Having tension is always a bad thing. Try and make a conscious decision to take a breath and relax your body before you begin your backswing
I switch back and forth with my putter all the time. I’m a terrible putter, though so I always stick with whatever feels best that day
gonna be some really strong winds in the mornings and afternoons. The sun has been out at the course twice in the past week because of all the fog/marine layer
CBS should be ashamed of itself. It was one thing last week during a PGA event, but during a WGC you don't have to bend over for Ponte Vedra
