SIAP but these are the lyrics to Daemon’s song
Couldn’t help but read the first few lines to the tune of tiny dancer.
Can someone help me understand the difference in the books Fire & Blood and The World of Ice and Fire? Which should I read now?
World of Ice and Fire recounts the history of the Targaryen dynasty from start to finish, and also includes information about the seven kingdoms, the free cities, and elsewhere.
Fire and Blood is strictly about the Targaryen dynasty from Aegon’s conquest through the regency of Aegon III, and is more detailed than WOIAF but with a more narrow focus. There is an upcoming second volume which will presumably cover up to Robert’s Rebellion.
World deals with all the details of everything including the children of the forest and things north of the wall. Fire and Blood is strictly about the Targaryen dynasty.
I mean, it's still going to be released before Winds of Winter.
I saw a post on Reddit that GRRM said he’s 75% done with WoW.
I swear he said that same thing like 5 years ago.
He said it with Colbert and he called him on the bullshit percentages.
George did not find it funny.
V possible he hasn’t written a word in the last 5 years, honestly.
Nah, I think Covid forced him to write since he couldn't go anywhere due to it being a health risk because of his age and weight.
I didn't say it was 750 pages, but even GRRM could bang out 100 manuscript pages in 2 years of Covid isolation due to boredom. Only 1400 more pages to go!
he wrote, he wasn't writing WoW. the reality is he has no fucking idea how to finish this series now which is why he does all these side quests. if he really knew how things were going to end, WoW has been out for five years and we're probably getting ADoS anytime now. first five books dropped in fifteen years, we're now approaching year twelve without the sixth. he's clueless about the end.
if you want to get really scary, another theory says the show was closer to his ending than people think and now he really doesn't want to finish the books.
Agreed. The first book of his “trilogy” turned into 3 books. IIRC, his plan was to then do like a 7 year time skip in “book 2” (let the main characters who are all young teens grow up and let the dragons grow) but decided to write through it instead. Now he has written himself into the “Meereenese knot” and has no solutions to untangle it. IIRC he rewrote Dany chapters in ADwD 3 times with the Martell arriving at different points. He should of stuck to his original plan but got too into the story/characters and couldn’t let them go for those 7 years and now has no idea. I hope he dies and they find a good ghost writer to pick things up.
Just let Sanderson finish them at this point.
Im the biggest Sanderson stan around but I don’t know if our great Mormon savior is gritty enough to finish ASOIAF.
But let’s get one thing straight. GRRM will never finish the series so the next person to come in here with some “I think he’s making progress” summer child bullshit gets pistol whipped
You're right George, it's not funny. Fucking get to work!
Is it possible that there is a provision in a contract HBO and GRRM signed that states GRRM can't finish with an alternate ending for say, 10 years after Game of Thrones ended and he's just basically stalling? And also those details cannot be made public? Idk, just spitballing on a Sunday morning.
No. He’s just not able to finish it because he’s caught himself in a knot with where everything is left off and how the show got past it because they were able to just not have all those storylines in it.
he can’t figure out how to bring all the plots together. There are several things in the books that the show just completely left out or merged together to clean up.
Should just kill off a bunch of characters that don't matter
That's basically what the show did and it pissed everyone off.
Even though the books might not end up exactly like the show, he’s written in so many characters into the books that don’t matter. Ex: Aegon. Does he just kill him or put a blackfyre on the throne?
I’ve been reading Fire & Blood and damn this is awesome. It’s so fun
I just started the other day too. That maegor was a real asshole huh?
Just wait till you learn about Meagor with teats.
Nerds… I’m getting ready to start the adventure of reading the books. Question: Can I read Fire & Blood before I start the 5 books in the series?
Can and should. Also A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (Dunk and Egg).
A ton of the Targaryen stuff described in Fire and Blood is mentioned in ASOIAF and speaking for myself, I like knowing the backstory
Absolutely. The 5 book series that GoT was based on doesn’t start until after F&B.
So read fire and blood or a knight of the seven kingdoms 1st?
I’m always of the opinion that you read things in the order the author released them but I’m not sure it matters in this scenario.
fire and blood. Just keep in mind, it doesn’t read like the other books
I’m so jealous. Wish I was reading everything for the first time.
Could you guys expand on this a bit when you have time? For instance, which specific or key plot points do you think has him stumped? (I never read the books but my buddy has. He tried to give me his theory by phone awhile back but it was a lot to digest verbally. Seems a fair amount of book readers feel understandably let down after such a long wait and don’t relish discussing it that much, especially with show watchers).
he’s still stuck
yep, did not see that coming. lots of twists and turns
Especially with the book vs show differences in portrayals.
George should just write in a mass casualty weather event to wrap some shit up
After being surrounded by the Dothraki, dany wakes up in Westeros, unaware of how she got there. Boom. Done. Let’s get on with it.
Got this bad boy for my birthday, I forgot it was even released
