After a couple listens it’s a 7.5/10 for me. Definitely a couple skips. 95 South and The Climb Back are the best songs IMO. I think Hunger on Hillside is a great closer.
I enjoyed it a lot but definitely some skips. Glad he decided to throw some features on there this time but I agree with Patches if you're running Dreamville and are trying to get your new young star on the map then this was the perfect time to give JID a feature to kill and grab the attention
I like The Off-Season, especially compared to most of his catalog. maybe the reason I like this one more than past albums is just some acceptance to my issues with him as an artist- like at this point it kind of is what it is. He's technically good but just kinda lacks depth and a true sound. like I'm not expecting this guy to come out with Yeezus or even DAMN. but for what it is, like beats and rhymes, it's good. It's just not gonna be some type of boundary-pushing deep artistic statement, honestly not sure he's capable of that.
When I heard interlude I got excited because it kinda seemed there was some emotion there that he’s had trouble conveying in my eyes. I like this album but I’d really like to see him pushing himself in a few songs with guys like JID or Conway or even idk Phonte would be fucking dope. Instead he brings in savage and lil baby.
Full disclosure I like the tracks with savage and baby on them it’s just not really what I was hoping for
I appreciate the album for at least being the first major release by a major artist that lived up to some hype in a while. We haven't gotten a clean album from the established mainstream guys in a while. And when they do, they kinda stink.
I mean he is kind of in a difficult spot for himself. His skill set is more suited for what is considered underground now but he has to try for mainstream appeal
I get that people want these deep, emotional, boundary pushing albums, but how many can we expect from 1 person? It’s fine to want it, but to be let down when every single album isn’t that is a bit unrealistic expectation
Ummmmmm the new Cole album on listen one was okay, but wasn’t in love with it tbh Derek Pope new album was feeling more that dropped today too
Have never really given lil baby a shot because I just assumed he was another corny mumble rapper. But dude kinda kills it on Cole's album and absolutely snapped on the scary hours song with Drake.
I think this sums up my listen pretty well. This guy also has a really good channel that I think a lot of guys itt would enjoy if you don’t already
this dude gets some auto respect for having Pinata, Kiwanuka, Fetti, Viktor Vaughn, Tana Talk Atrocity Exhibition and especially the first Fleet Foxes album in the background
Isn’t the waters up there as well? That’s a fucking cold ass album also. Dude has nice taste and well thought out takes
Lol was gonna ask the same thing I mean he isn’t Kendrick deep but skipping before the records even 24 hrs old?
When it cut to Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz I immediately got transported back to middle school and high school and got hype
similar to 21 savage, I have no shame in saying I love almost every Migos bop. Big fan of cranking up Straightening and driving through town right now.
I have never really listened to Rod Wave and listened to/saw the Tombstone video and god damn. That dude can sing, and that song will get you all up in your feelings.
I like SZA. Mereba is my #1. She's a completely different style though. She's got a single with JID that's good too but it's 2 person bubble bath song.
