It felt like a foregone conclusion. Zero activity and it's July. Just hoping he's finally good to go next year.
That sounds like he’s never going to be good again...they opted for an exploratory surgery because he’s complained of soreness they couldn’t explain on any imaging and continued to find no tissue damage. Guy is probably toast.
Yea he’s having some phantom pain. He just doesn’t strike you as a dude who loves the prep work required to be good at baseball.
Kurt Hoekstra has made a surprisingly smooth transition from position player to pitcher. Already in AAA after just becoming a full time pitcher this year. Started for Gwinnett tonight and went 3.1IP, 3H, 1BB, 4K On the year he has a 2.23ERA in 44.1IP, 58K, 1.21WHIP
The Mets had deGrom and Syndegaard pitch the last two nights for them in SF. Combined they went 14 innings giving up 1 R. The Mets lost both games in extras. Incredible.
That was a huge start for him and this team. Kind of had a feeling as a long veteran of this team that he would come up big last night. Whenever people doubt Julio the most is when he typically shines. That 12 games with 1 run or less stat blew my mind this morning. Quietly impressive.
Hopefully we fuck up Sanchez tonight. Have to feel good with Mike on the hill. I think Gausman's start is massively important. If he can be what he was last year it will be huge for us.
Ace was huge last night. I’ve been critical of him but he’s been pretty consistent in giving you five innings of competitive baseball. He can’t really effectively get through the lineup a third time, but he’s certainly had a nice year. He also very clearly gives a shit and with JD as his new pithing coach, I believe the sky is the limit for ace.
Those 89 MPH fastballs are so slow the hitters aren’t used to seeing them and are always ahead of the pitch.
The drop in velocity is genius. Even if they put the bat on the ball the hitters can’t get enough force to muscle the ball out.
I think we tag Sanchez tonight. We’ve seen his smoke and mirrors wizardry bullshit a couple of times now and should be ready for it.
So I went back about a week ago and looked at all the prospects traded at the last two deadlines.. Very few big time prospects are moved for rentals, especially pitchers. Machado got 1 top 100 prospect. Don't believe anyone else did. Someone can fact check me but I think Waters would be the highest rated prospects traded at the deadline in years. Certainly for a rental.
You are probably right that it would take more for both. But I think we are talking more guys in the Wilson/Allard/Demeritte range.
