Not like a big time one, but like for a fraternity. I've been looking into it over the summer as ours graduated. He made bank so I'd like to take over.

Any suggestions on sights to print off spreads for everyone?
Tips on collecting or how to run the bets?

    Thanks

I have 5k cash currently, so a good enough supply to start.

I'm curious though of ways to keep it as anonymous as possible in case I were to get in trouble. I don't want to take everyone down with me if someone got my cell #, etc.

Another good thing would be to find a spread sheet that is esaily printed. You have a link to that/.

How many clients and how big do they bet? And what do you need a spreadsheet print out for?

This was my question: who the fuck still uses a bookie when you have the internet?

I would bet it's only people who either win and collect, or don't have money and plan on welching.

Being a bookie back in the 90's was great, but I'm not so sure about these days.

I would much rather bet through a bookie than bet online anyday of the week

The money is good for sure but making book is a lot of work. You have to be available pretty much 24-7 unless you're planning on hiring someone to answer the phone and take down bets for you which will cut into your profits. You are pretty much guaranteed to make money over the course of a season but unless you have a pretty big supply of money (depending on the level of action you service 5K is prob not enough) a bad week or two, or a few lucksack parlays can break you. It sounds like you just want to book your friends/fraternity brothers bets so collecting probably won't be too bad since hopefully you'll only be booking bets of people you know. Definately get a prepaid phone, and a safety deposit box at a bank. Good luck, not that you'll need it, sports bettors don't stand a chance against the juice.

Get a stand-alone voicemail (through Google voice) where you can record the lines and have people leave time-stamped messages with their bets. Everyone gets a numeric code as their "user name" so no one needs to leave names.

Granted, I'm 33 and have money and a computer and can do whatever the fuck I want to in my own home without the need to hide it, but I wouldn't trust a slick bastard to keep things on the up and up these days.

You serious? A bookie is 100X better than the net

    to the OP

    a pre-paid phone
    a note book
    great organization
id only let people you know or a friend knows bet, collecting from college kids is tough ( my roomate in college was a bookie for 1 season and quit even though he made about 15k bc of the headaches that came with the gig, and his grades went to shit bc its a full time job, taking calls, collecting, paying out, etc. Dude was always on the phone or in his notebook )
and you better hope to god you dont get beat the first 2-3 weeks with only 5k backing you

I used to run a book at school. My suggestion, on top of the others, would be to find someone to back you. I knew a couple of connected guys who set me up and shit, and if the plays got too big I pushed some of it their way.

Well, I'm from a small town, so needless to say, everyone knows everyone. Things don't go so well for you if you get behind paying the book, and if the book gets late on payments, shit get bad for him too. He's pretty good, and typically lays off most of his big bets with a bigger book.

I did bodog for 2 years, but I was getting worked over by the juice. When you bet online, you are losing a ton when you win. So naturally, if you are winning at over a 58% clip, you will lose more money that you would with a book. As the book only takes juice when you lose.

I was hitting at a clip of near 65% for a few years, so it only made sense for me to go with the book from home. So instead of paying juice on 65% that I was with bodog, I only had to pay on what I lost with my book, hence 35% give or take He's also a friend, so I usually let him hang on to my winnings until the end of the season.
