Fuck this has me even more worried about Wentz coming to Chicago....Nagy ain’t the guy to get Wentz on track.
you can’t put it past Roseman to not be running a smear campaign even though he’s trying to trade him because at the end of the day Howie is out to save his own skin but now it’s coming out from all over the place and the staff member saying that confirmed it for me personally
I saw an article probably a few weeks ago that mentioned Wentz would frequently refuse to admit he made a mistake when it was pointed out to him in QB film meetings that he missed a guy or made the wrong read or anything like that. He'd just give excuses that absolved himself of any responsibility. And he's refuse to run the plays a few times inn practice to try get it right. Definitely not flattering if true.
The most important part is the Roseman stuff. They’re going to trash Wentz any chance they get so Howie can deflect blame. Guess who was the most accurate Eagles QB this year? Carson Wentz. Jalen Hurts was barely above 50%. Howie’s about to take the largest cap hit in the NFL history when he trades Wentz. But it’s all Wentz’s fault. The Eagles deserve what’s coming.
the “Jalen Hurts was pretty good” takes are very confusing to me. he was a rookie on a bad team so I’m not totally against giving him a shot, but he didn’t look like a guy that was going to succeed to me.
Wentz is clearly better than Goff pre-2020, but he also seems more broken now than Goff is, while also having a bunch of injuries through the last five years that kind of add to the questions regarding his current state. Good for the Eagles if they can recoup that kind of return, but kind of seems like the Bears are uniquely willing to do that one considering they had no chance at Stafford and they have a GM/coach situation where draft picks don't matter if they get fired.
If you're a Bears' fan, would you rather they deal #20 this year? Or a next year's 1? I kind of think a next year's one would make me madder just because of the obvious it is by Pace about a future he might not be a part of.
The Eagles' cap situation would make Whitehair tough to fit in a deal like that. You're adding something like $11M in salary between he and Foles for a team that is already about $50M over the cap after Wentz is moved. Any players acquired by Philly in a trade would seem to need to be pretty cheap.
Yeah I wasn’t aware of Phillys cap situation, Daniels deal is very cap friendly and with Mustifer and Bars playing so well last year late he’s pretty expendable.
I can see them adding Foles in such a deal just because they're going to have to pay something like that for a vet starter anyway. Anyone else making more than around $1M seems like fantasy GMing in the media.
Wentz 1000 percent looked like a guy who lost faith in his OL/WRs and became gun shy. Hard to get that back.
You got to love how every guy in the NFL thinks they can "coach" up every terrible player, despite what they continuously put on tape.
While i agree, lately, he hasn't been anything special. The QBs you trade for make your WRs better, Carson doesn't do that.
I am no Wentz fanboy at all but if you watched the Eagles every week you definitely would not have made this statement. Please know, I don't blame you for not watching them, it wasn't a good time.
I'll let Jason Kelce tell you what I think of Mike Lombardi (he may be right here, but fuck him anyway)
I think Philly is best served to wait out the other dominos at this point. A desperate team might give them what they want, but right now there is still too much supply to contend with.
not sure if I said it in here or just to my friends, but I always thought it made more sense for Watson to move first. then you hope a team that misses on him has Wentz as plan B.
For the right team I think a 2nd and something else is worth a flier on Wentz. Not sure I would do a first
The paradox for any team trading for Wentz is why give up a high pick for a team that is willing to eat 34 mil in dead cap space to get rid of him?
Note that the acquiring team is guaranteed to pay Wentz’s 2021 base salary, his 2022 base salary (which largely guarantees on the 3rd day of the league year), and his 2021 roster bonus (which guarantees on the 3rd day of the league new year). This is functionally a 4-year, $98.4M deal ($24.6M APY) with $47.4M guaranteed across the first two years. That deal is around the 12th-15th biggest deal for quarterbacks in the league this season.
Funny how a team so quick to dump him and eat a lot of dead cap is also trying to convince teams he's worth a ton in trade value
Like I said if it works out great but paying starter qb salary and not having a starting QB is a cap disaster there’s really no way around that
If a team can fix him, it's not terrible. If they can't, having $50m sit the bench for 2 years is awful. Just ask the Eagles.
