Your second point in no way relates to your first. Classic dblshift. We have six defensive players who could reasonably be first team all-conf. That's not the same as having six first-team all-conf players selected. Voting doesn't work like that .
He literally said UM could have 6 first team all-conference players on defense and backed up with an article overrating UM for the 823rd straight season.
Yeah, Pelini had three 10 win seasons in 7 years, but he won at least 9 while losing 4 every single year. That is why I said eventually Harbaugh has to start beating his rivals and winning a conference championship, but I do think it helps illustrate the point that for the first 3 years after taking over a struggling program, those are results most who just hired a new coach would be very happy with.
It's all about expectations. I think two 10 win seasons and 28 wins in 3 years would be a good result for Frost at Nebraska. UM built Harbaugh up though. Their fanbase literally put him above Meyer and Saban. He hasn't lived up to expectations.
Harbaugh needs to beat his rivals. I understand why this is a thing. I also don't think Harbaugh is the reason Michigan is 1-5 against its rivals since he's been there.
I understand shit happens and luck plays a big part in this game, but 1-5 against your rivals no matter how it happened has to sting. Would michigan fans take winning 9-11 games every year but losing to OSU and michigan st yearly during that span? I'm sure at first Michigan fans would have unanimously said hell yes to that after their last 2 coaches, but after awhile thats gotta eat at you as a michigan fan I'd presume
I understand the logic that it’s unlucky for him to have to deal with Meyer at tOSU, but claiming a losing record against MSU to not be his fault is absolutely outrageous.
I think we'd be a lot more hurt if we were getting blown out in these games but besides the first OSU game they've all been very close with a couple seeming to just be downright unlucky. We've got the fumbled punt as time expires against MSU and we've got the questionable spot in 2OT against OSU. Even last year we expected to get blown out by OSU once Peters got injured and O'korn was starting. And we ended up being down 4 with the ball in the fourth quarter as time was running down and like he had done all season when he was playing O'korn threw an interception. This was also after our safety dropped a gifted INT that hit him directly in the chest in the red zone and allowed OSU to subsequently score. Michigan fans didn't come out of that OSU game discouraged at all because we expected to get destroyed and the only reason we were in it was thanks to a fantastic game plan by the coaching staff. That's why some of us are saying we don't blame Harbaugh for some of the losses because he's actually done a good job at putting the team into position to succeed but the players are not executing when given the opportunity.
If the fumbled punt as time expires doesn't happen were 2-1 against them and I'm not really going to blame Harbaugh for that.
That was in his first year so I'm not up in arms about it. I was extremely pissed after the game this year as the game plan in the second half when the downpour came in made zero sense.
As did a lot of our games once the offense sputtered. It was pretty much the same thing every loss all year. We keep the game close while the defense is fresh in the first half and by the second half our offense is still doing nothing and it results in our D spending way too much time on the field.
The coach of Michigan is hired to beat the coach of tOSU is he not? You're at the top top level; there's no excuses. (I realize Harbaugh is still building so I'm not trying to be unfair; just saying it doesn't matter if they have Lombardi at coach, you can't use that excuse)
Most of the people blame Drevno since he was who was let go but who really knows. None of us are happy with the offense performance last year but you really seem to be bothered that we seem to have hope for the team going forward. Honestly your obsession is a little strange.
And I'd agree with that. If he's still not beating Meyer in a couple years there's no excuses. It's literally one of the most important things of the job.
He's probably talking about the way the games played out. Year 1: MSU was beat. Then the unluckiest play in CFB history. Year 2: UM won Year 3: Michigan loses it starting QB for the season and John O'Korn completely shits the bed. Then, of course, there was a monsoon. Those games are always fucked. Harbaugh is pretty unlucky to be 1-2 against MSU. I mean MSU went to the playoff that year. They also beat OSU. Meanwhile Michigan was coming off a season where it lost to Rutgers and Maryland.
This is a pretty weird take considering Notre Dame - MSU’s fairly even series. Are you self owning Notre Dame intentionally?
I think you might be kinda slow. Nobody said it didn't count. Dantonio is the Vince Lombardi of bad weather games. This is true.
I'm just trying to see if you'll hold Harbaugh accountable for anything but apparently you and the others would rather just chalk it up to being unlucky bc by God you're going to be great next year.
We've already said we do hold him accountable for stuff. We're just not ready to run him out of town like everybody else thinks we're supposed to.
Run him out of town? I don't think anyone is saying that. Able to admit his first 3 years have been a disappointment and that he hasn't lived up to expectations? Sure, you should be able to do that. You can't. You'd rather bring up all the unlucky things that have happened.
But it hasn't been a disappointment. With where the program was when he got here, I'm fine with the progress he's made so far. If we're at he same spot three years from now then it will be a disappointment.
You're fine with 8-5 3 years in? I guarantee you that you wouldn't have said that 3 years ago. You'll say it now bc you refuse to admit he's been a disappointment but we all see that for what it is. From what you and all other UM fans expected 3 years ago, he's been a huge disappointment.
Michigan set a program record in 2016-2017 with 11 draft picks in a single class. I'd like to hear more about why the program was in such bad shape when he showed up because clearly there was talent on the roster.
Coach Harbaugh was certainly unlucky that his coach Harbaugh called for 35 passes, 3 interceptions, and 0 touchdowns to be thrown in that monsoon. Coach Harbaugh was certainly unlucky that his coach Harbaugh called for two gunners when Dantonio had absolutely no one back to receive the punt.
That's actually pretty easy and something that's been discussed on our boards a lot. The 2016-2017 team was primarily made up of our 2012 and 2013 classes which were ranked 6 and 4 nationally and then Peppers from the 2014 class. They were great classes with depth all around and great players at pretty much every position. Those were then followed by Hoke with the 20th ranked class with only 17 players and the 37th ranked class with only 14 players. So over two years we only took 31 players and from that we got around 10 solid starters/contributors. Those two classes are the reason last year was so difficult because in those classes we only took 5 OL and the only ones out of them who showed any promise was Grant Newsome, and he almost had to have his leg amputated after his injury his sophomore year, and Mason Cole who had to play tackle because of what happened to Newsome even though his natural position was center. Hoke's roster mismanagement was awful as he was heading out the door and left us with nothing in regards to the OL which was by far our most glaring weakness last year. That's also why we've given Harbaugh a bit of a pass on last year. If you look at the make up of the team last year it was primarily freshman and sophomores from Harbaugh's first two classes because the two classes Hoke recruited prior to that were not only small but were also junk. To put that in perspective. Alabama and Ohio State smallest class the last six years have both been 21 and those are followed by classes 25+ after. Getting that many more bodies makes a big difference because you don't have to hit on as high of a percentage.
Jim was hired with time left in the 2015 cycle, no? Kinda bullshit to not hold Harbaugh accountable for not landing more than 14 players regardless of rank and/or OL. He’s not the first to ever get hired with a month left in the cycle.
