I wonder if the inspiration for his replacement for Leibowitz being Stewart had to do with THE William & Mary. Both were born Stuarts (That’s right our countries first place for higher learning is named after a couple from a first cousin marriage)
Nothing like quick takes from people who haven’t consumed anything from that person in years. Stewart having a platform is better for actual people than any of these other heads.
Inevitable left leaning people eating their own. I know a guy that was right wing before he started watching John Oliver and now he won’t watch his show because it’s “centrist” That movie Stewart made was pretty bad so that’s the shit I’ll throw at him.
I like Jon Stewart and his podcast/Apple show is very good. But I do not think he is going to matter one way or the other in today's media and political environment. Especially compared to his presence when most of us on this board were coming of age.
Does anyone in media really matter these days? I feel like left/right is so polar these days and everyone is in an echo chamber so nobody's mind is getting changed. A lefty isn't watching Fox News. A chub isn't watching The Daily Show. So does anyone on either network really matter outside of entertaining their own? He'll make entertaining clips for me so .
You’re not descended from William, Mary or Queen Anne. You come from one of Charles II or James II many many many many bastard children? You a Fitz?
Cooking/Travel shows aren’t my thing but I liked Bourdain (the public persona at least, celebrities aren’t real people). Came across as cool and respectful IMO.
that guy is always saying ridiculous shit I engaged a couple of times but now I recognize the username and keep scanning
I liked that he sat down with poor people and went to countries that were supposed to be scary to U.S. citizens. Like eating with people in their homes or going to places like Colombia.
He could do a lot of good. He brought a lot of attention to that veteran issue a few years ago that Republicans were holding up.
That’s what I liked too. Who knows how long I would have kept thinking Croatia was a hellhole where the sky is gray at all times and ethnic cleansing is a daily occurrence. Probably not until Luca Modric became a star.
I vaguely remember watching the daily show covering Obamas election night in 2008. I don’t think I’ve watched since stewart left. Don’t get the hate for him. His advocacy for the 9/11 first responders is incredible
The media in this country kept the citizenry less informed with standard procedures while Stewart was sewing the seeds of Israeli brutality to our generation.
I liked it and was sad it was cancelled but it also seemed like a complete copy cat of Last Week Tonight only not as good (not that a lot of shows don't do the same thing)
Didn't Stewart do interviews? Oliver doesn't do anything like that. I never watched the Stewart show, just saw clips.
nobody on this board connected to Stewart and his message(s) because of his age so why not let a new generation get exposure and change minds like he did with our generation? can definitely see how old and bitter some of you have become, that's for sure.
I loved how Colbert would have the guests sitting at a table off to the side and he’d make the trek to the other side of the studio about himself. Textbook Papa Bear O’Reilly.
yes, and that part was different. minor complaint about a show i liked him destroying Ark's AG about trans kids was great
Yeah but it was pretty fringe in its early stages with its puritan roots. W&M was Church of England so it had establishment bona fides and wealthy slave owning students didn’t have to travel too far to get there.
