Will be starting the book today.
Through part 1
Im having a hard time keeping interest in this one. Idk why. It's just not hitting for me. Im interested int his duel or whatever that they set up but the rest ... meh
Agree 100%. I’m 30% in and considering dropping it if I’m not into it by the 40% mark.
Oh no. I'm sorry. Will be chiming in here with my thoughts soon.
Reason I voted this over changeling was all the good reviews from friends on GoodReads.
Any updates? Considering starting soon if worth it.
I quit reading it. I just couldn't get into it. The duel was the more interesting part in my opinion but that was taking a backseat to other character stories and I was done with it.
I am still chugging my way through. Currently at 40%.
The whole duel thing is kind of interesting and do feel like this could make a great movie with what I have read so far. That's just from a character perspective and special effects. From a story perspective the game is more annoying to read about for me than it probably is for the characters. I get they don't know what the fuck is going on, you've now reiterated it about 100 times. Give me something to keep me interested.
Edit: I am not even sure what I typed is a spoiler but I will leave it.
Should get to knock out a good bit of the book today. Hasn't grabbed my attention yet either, but I'll finish it regardless.
I tapped out as well
Sad days. Anyway, I was trying to back out too and copy and pasted the posts regarding the thing to the GF and this is what she said:
"There is very little non-duel shit. The stuff the think is non-duel shit, is actually all duel shit. They just don't know it yet."
I would have 100% given up on Crawdad's last month at this far in, so I'm going to keep plugging away as I said above.
I read the plot synopsis this morning and am glad that I tapped out. I was bored even reading that. I disagree with her statement though I know that I’m not getting the full details.
1/10. I have no idea how or why I finished that.
1/10? Damn. I'm 2/3rds the way through. I don't think it's that bad at all, though it's taking longer to complete than most books I "read".
She’s a great writer, which is why I was probably able to finish. That’s the 1.
Sheer will power. It felt like it took too long to build up why I should care about the kid, and even then I didn't really care about the kid. To me it was missing something that could grab my attention early on.
Gin Buckets did you finish? Thoughts?
I did... Thought I'd posted.
Underwhelming ending, though I did think it was quite clever. Like most of you, the book never really grabbed my attention -- just a little bit at the end. I need to think about it more, but I ended up giving it 2 stars on goodreads I think. Was disappointed in her choice, and I don't blame anyone who didn't finish. I'll try to add more tomorrow, because my brain isn't working right now and I can't think of anything story specific I'd like to discuss.
