I liked last season a lot better. It’s good TV for them to be a shitshow but that team just quit and all the injuries took away a bunch of excitement about continuing to watch knowing they were going to lose with that shitty QB
It was amazing reading what we could see of that paper, though. There's no way that what he wrote was worthy of a passing grade, but she just gave it to him anyways
It's bad enough every one of these kids thinks they are getting a D1 scholarship and will be in the NFL, but I laughed everytime the DC or his wife talked about going D1. The delusion is so widespread
The “Chance is dressed like he’s ready to say the N-word with a hard R,” comment had me laughing pretty hard.
Through episode 1. Seems real shitty on the part of netflix to show all of that trashing of malik henry, who clearly has some emotional issues already
It's not that far fetched for a Juco player to go D1 I'm just saying everyone involved, at EMCC, Indy, the other coaches from schools, the announcer, the president, all think they are the best of the best
I think it’s hard to type out what my point is. There’s been very few players and people over the four seasons that truly gets what their situation actually is. These are community colleges that are selling their souls for this idea that they can have their chance in the spotlight and glory. I think that is actually a major point of the show. Most of these kids have all the talent in the world, and had somehow fucked it up. Grades, run ins with law, just general fuck heads that are on their final chance. Then there are these coaches and presidents using a community college as a bridge to try and gain glory from it. Just look at Buddy, JB and the Garden City coach. They are absolute pieces of shit who think they are elite. Then the kids who don’t even bother to learn how to read or show up for classes that are going to pass them if they exhibit 50% or less actual effort I can think of very few people in this show that understand that. The kid from Texas Tech at EMCC seemed to be one.
wow it’s almost like you don’t understand what many of those kids had to go through just to get where they are now most of those kids are the first ones in their family to even graduate high school. many of them grew up in single parent households or had to raise their families while working out in the streets to support them. look at the support system someone like Chance Main had compared to someone like Markiese. he knew his only shot was football, and it’s likely everyone has reminded him of that since he was 13 or 14. all while dealing with a sick mom and a dad who’s not in the picture. That’s a lot of pressure on a kid who grew up in a system where he’s already destined to fail based on his upbringing
I blame the schools when it comes to these kids who can barely read, write, and comprehend basic school work. They were never taught anything different, just pass them on to play football. Most those kids come rough households where parents aren't around and if they are they are just as big of fuck-ups, but I also don't feel bad for them when schools like Indy and EMCC try to help them out and tell them how to succeed and they just don't put in any effort.
All I’m saying different than you is I don’t think 90% of the individuals involved understand their situation at all We both agree the kids are being used I’m not hating on him or him chasing his dream. I just think him and the other coaches have the same delusions that they will make it big coming from where they are in a CC in bumfuck Kansas. The show is called last chance U. I don’t think that necessarily applies to just the kids I’ll leave it alone from here, like I said I think it’s hard for me to type out what I am trying to get across
The coaches moving from JUCO to DI have a muuuuuuuuuch greater chance than any of the players making the NFL.
i think for the young assistant coaches especially, these JUCOs are more of a starting point for their career than a last chance to prove themselves. we've hired several assistant coaches at Nebraska who started off in the JUCO ranks. now for a guy like JB who clearly has other issues, Indy probably was his last chance. i cant see anyone touching that dude with a 10 foot pole
Especially after being charged w 8 felonies http://www.parsonssun.com/sports/article_1cb23fe8-9a0b-11e9-a18f-2769e5bc1d9e.html?TNNoMobile
It should be noted, they are not going to show the kids that aren’t problem children. The kids that go to class, stay out of trouble and graduate are not going to be featured on this type of show.
It's already been addressed but there are tons of D1 coaches that spent time at JC level at some point. When I was at a JC my OC wound up at Michigan and is now at Kansas. My DL coach is now LB coach for Tulane. I haven't kept tabs on all my former coaches but I'm sure there are more that have moved up.
I’m not arguing any of that. I’m only starting that I don’t know what the DC thought he had done to get a call from a D1 at the end of the season
The only way guys move up in college coaching is by having players. So the quickest way for a JUCO assistant to move up is for a Division I program to hire him under the pretense that he’ll bring players with him. That’s why being at ICC would be a quick launch point to Division I, just like EMCC. It’s almost never about Xs and Os.
In middle of episode 4.... Coach Brown obviously has his issues big time but the Garden City coach is the fucking worst. Seems like an absolute loser
There’s definitely some irony in this. I think the showrunners do a fairly good job not moralizing themselves, but their choice in what stories to cover is a form of editorialization it and of itself. The “newsworthy” stories just do happen to be the ones where kids frequently fail. They can critique the coaches for benefitting off these dudes; I just hope they realize they’re doing it too.
they’re the first to admit they didn’t want to create a “football show” so I’m not really sure what you expect. You could say anyone making a documentary is editorializing to an extent
It’s a shame that once the season went into the shitter, the narrative didn’t change sooner to JB cleaning house. It would have been interesting to follow along with the coaches and players getting cut or worried about getting fired. I know they touched on it several times, but that could have been the focus of the last few episodes instead of the quarterback carousel still going on in week 9. Those first few emcc seasons are still the best. Looking forward to season 5 and what a different school is going to look like.
That’s what I’m saying. Maybe it’s an aggressive take. But I have a similar one for the explosion of true crime documentaries.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ color me shocked that showrunners want to make captivating tv. The white kid with a good family doesn’t quite pull the heartstrings like season 3 when one kid mentioned how he wished his dad would show up for a game for once in his life
I am not sure I blame that Garden City coach for his reaction considering the dude was called every name in the book in front of millions of people. I mean he’s still a cocksucker but I get it. Dude must have been ultra confident he was going to win though to allow the cameras into all his shit leading up to the game.
I know a lot of kids like Bobby being from where I from, so I was perfectly able to feel empathy for him. It sucks to see him waster a chance and let down a lot of people. This season seemed more somber and maybe the losing and the dysfunction brought that out a little more. What struck me was the way these dudes were sacrificing there bodies at such a young age, for a dream to them but to us on the outside the stakes don't seem to be worth the pain some of these dudes are going to feel as they get older.
Just got to the part with the coaches meeting and coach brown says aint no one firing me , I can lose every single game and I won't get fired but ya'll mother fuckers I wanna fire half ya'll. Way to inspire your coaches and get them to step up Fucks he's pretty worried about getting his turf practice field in before taking care of the team. Also damn Malik Henry is delusional, nothing is ever his fault and he's still a top tier Qb in his mind, dude you can't make it in JUCO.
