Truman, did you go to the Chicago show last month? I wanted to go but it was the first Saturday night of the NCAA tournament so decided to watch basketball instead. I'd be curious to see what type of crowd he draws.
Went to a lil Dicky show in Eugene two weeks ago. Got free tickets, snuck in a flask and a weed pen. Great time
Went to the Chicago show, did the meet and greet, it was roughly 90% college dudes or people like me, late 20's to early 30's just having a good time as we slowly drift into death. He really put on an impressive show considering what I was expecting, good openers, lots of beer, VERY loose with the weed in the crowd. At one point he smoked a golden blunt on stage. All in All, I would certainly do it again. The biggest issue is, for someone so new and without an actual album, his catalog is too big to do everything everyone wants in a single set. We were in the 1st/2nd "row" so that helped make it more immersive, it was pretty fun slapping hands and shit with the guy on stage even if it was just LD.
Dude must know his lyrics really well if he's hitting blunts on stage. Seems like that'd cause you to get all tongue tied esp with his flow and delivery
I think he's entertaining and enjoy the amount of ticket sales he's produced, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to his music
Fair enough; I'm a sucker for dudes who can make words rhyme good plus I like his satire as social commentary thing
Can't wait. Is it actually a pizza party for the meet n greet or should we eat before we go? Did you get to smoke with LD?
Pizza is served, no smoke at ours, they just had it in the venue so it was too wide open and formal, no back room or anything. He really seemed like a guy who wasn't ready to be a "celebrity" in meeting him, we were also the last of the VIP people to wander in so I'm surer he was tired of shaking hands and shooting shit.
I always think when a new song comes out before hearing it, that his other songs have set the bar so high they won't nearly be as good. But Im wrong every time. A bunch of his songs I can relate with and thats what makes it so funny
Sounds good to me. My ticket says the show start at 9. Is that LD time or the opening dj? Trying to see what time he plays until bc there is another show that night I'd try to catch, time permitting
I would guess the opener, we had 2 dudes before him that did about 30 minutes each and then LD came on, I would guess you are out of there around 11:30.
http://hiphopdx.com/singles/id.30882/title.lil-dicky-f-fetty-wap-rich-homie-quan-save-that-money This song is horrible and I hope he isn't gonna try and go this direction
Saw him in ATL. The guys that opened for ATL may have been the worst rappers I've ever seen (they were white). LD was very entertaining to me though. I think I'm going to see him again in Dallas in a couple weeks
Listened again in the car, now able to really hear it, I love the new song, hilarious, but, a step towards more legitimacy.
I hate using the comparison but its almost like Tech N9ne. You want to be that underground guy that everybody loves but know if you do it differently you can be making 10x more money.
How did you think it was that lol? Literally the opposite. Meh. Chorus sucked. I'd be down to have a normal rap song with those guys but then his verse still be in his own style.
I mean, he is talking about 401ks and stealing Netflix. This is not a club song and certainly not a deviation for him in lyrics.
I will say a step towards being more serious, I suppose. I just kind of picture him coming in and getting us pumped. Saying off the wall shit. A drake corroboration is inevitable and then drake will officially be the softest ever.
lol. I (somehow) feel him on not wanting to mow down "groupies" because they are hood-rats and very young (based off Orlando show). If he can blow up a little more he'll probably score a hot wannabe actress chick and that'll be perfect for him.
