Just checking in again. This whole dad thing is awesome. Your guys' awesome awesome awesome stories make me even more excited. She's only eight weeks but already smiling at things that make her happy, laughing, and sitting in a supported chair. The lady is going to be going back to Iowa to visit her family and it took some time but we came to an agreement of 7 days (including travel), we started that negotiation with me at 4 days and her at 11 so I'll really only be away for 5 days but I already know that's going to suck. Thanks for all the stories e-dads!
So glad I took the 3 yr old to daycare this morning. Wife was changing the 5 day olds diaper. She could see that the little one was starting to poop so just leaned the diaper up against the baby instead of strapping it back on. Well she projectile pooped all over the wall and curtains. Wish I had scene that but at the same time so happy I was gone.
So I always see these cute videos online of baby lions or tigers trying to roar but only kinda squeaking a little bit. And then I wonder who designed human babies to be able to reach these decibel levels on day 1. I wouldn't be able to talk for a week if I tried to duplicate it for one whole minute.
My 7 year old daughter calls me in the bathroom all the time butt naked in the shower wanting me to see if she got all the shampoo out of her hair. She will call me in the bathroom while she is taking a shit b/c she is out of wet wipes or can't reach the toilet paper. But holy crap will she throw a fit if I walk in a room while she is changing clothes. Its so hilarious what she considers an invasion of privacy.
This post isn't about me being a dad but what I did for mine. At dinner tonight, Lou Holtz was eating at the table next to me. My dad is going through Alzheimer's but he talks about Lou speaking at a conference back in the 90's all the time. So I told Lou about that, got my picture with him, and he wrote a note on his business card to my dad saying, your son told me you're the best dad in the world. Gave that to my dad when I got home and he teared up. Great to have a moment like that when I know I won't have many moments that he's going to remember.
What's normal for a 4 year old to be sick. She started pre school this year but this winter has been brutal. Leading up to Christmas she had a cold/cough that turned into pneumonia. Antibiotics for 10 days helped kick it. Two days later she was feeling bad again and another 10 days of antibiotics after the X-ray showed it was still there but healing. January was good and then she gets an ear infection and another 10 days of antibiotics. She was fine after the first dose. Now it's been 2 days since she's off and I'm up all night because she's all stuffed up again and won't blow her nose. What the fuck.
I've met and worked with Lou through an affiliation my employer had with him, but the last time I saw him was something we set up on a golf course. We took a picture together and he signed a scorecard, "Boo MFer, you are a tremendous leader. All the best. - Lou" Then we sat and had a one-on-one chat about college football for 30 minutes. It was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced.
Hadn't been in here for awhile, had to catch up. 1. Congrats to all the new Dads! Awesome stuff. 2. The other night my seven year old looked at me and said "you know what Dad, you're my best friend". Got dusty as hell in the living room. 3. T-minus 4 months until boy #3.
Update! Baby Blackfish is sleeping through the night My wife finally caved and wanted to sleep train. We did a modified cry it out last Friday night, every 15 minutes or so we would go in just to put his paci back in his mouth and tell him we loved him and then leave. He cried all fucking night long. It was awful. 2nd night he woke up and cried 4 or 5 times but never hit the 15 minute trigger 3rd night he maybe woke up once or twice for a minute or so. 4th night he slept 7:30PM - 6:30 AM Since then he has slept through the night every night except one where my wife had to go in and calm him down once. Its been a game changer. Wife said she's feeling like a person as opposed to a zombie for the first time in 4.5 months.
Also having the baby sleeping in his crib as opposed to the pack n play next to our bed has done wonders for the :rapezy:
With that much antibiotics this winter, I highly recommend probiotics to help get more good bacteria back in her stomach. You can get supplements and they are also found in fermented foods like yogurt (esp. Greek), kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, kambucha, etc. Our son was on a lot of antibiotics for ear infections so we were putting 4 drops of this in to his bottle each day. Your doctor or a pharmacist. should be able to give you recommendations for supplements.
Thanks She does like yogurt and we have bumped it up during this time. They recommended culturelle (sp?) packets. They are flavorless and you just dump in a drink.
Half Knight turned 10 years old on Friday, so many feels and much nostalgia all weekend. Had a great time hanging out with him, played video games together and he hung out with his friends all weekend, he had a blast.
About a year ago, Mini Boom stopped calling me Daddy and started calling me "best friend." "Hey, best friend, I love you" gets me just about every time.
I remember the first time I picked up my daughter from daycare and she had been bitten by another kid. I don't think I had ever felt that kind of rage in my life. I really wanted to go after that kid. The daycare wouldn't tell you who it was so I would stare at the whole class for like the next month that I went in there.
My son got bit at daycare a couple months ago. When I picked him up I asked the lady if she knew what happened and she said "Well, we didn't see it but I think he may have just bit himself" He had maybe two or three teeth at the time and there was like seven teeth visible on the bite. I just and walked away
that first day i stepped into the daycare, i scanned the room for little shitheads spotted a couple and told my son to steer clear of those guys a couple days later he had a note in his box about an incident where he was pushed while playing with a toy teacher wouldn't say who it was and neither would my son (didn't know names quite yet) but i knew it was one of those punks cliffs: fuck daycare
i take my daughter to an in-home sitter who watches kids. works out well, we are good friends with her and her husband, as her as my other daughter is friends with her youngest, so if something happens, she'll tell me who did it.
Hand, foot and mouth was by far the worst thing we've dealt with. Hopefully your experience is better. Our son didn't sleep one night and barely slept the next. He just cried in pain because it hurt any time he swallowed his saliva. I felt so bad for him. Tylenol didn't do anything for the pain but Advil was effective. He was teething at the time so we accidentally figured out that Orajel also works to numb the pain of some of the blisters he had inside of his mouth. Good luck.
Its all a matter of how many and where the blisters are. Ours son's were concentrated inside his mouth which made it terrible. The worst of it is the first day or two before you even realize what is going on. From what I remember the mouth tends to get it first and then on the skin so if you're seeing it externally you're probably through the worst of it. Now it is just a matter of looking bad for a week to 10 days.
Best daycare bite story - my daughter got bit twice in a week. She came home and told us how did it. Macie did that. When she was bit the 2nd time and the teacher called my wife - my wife asked if Macie had bit her again, the teacher started laughing and said Macie has been at the beach all week it was CeCe - Caroline's best friend. She threw some other girl under the bus for her friend.
We did at 4.5 months, not sure what the book says I think it's Baby dependent, when you know they're getting all the calories they need during the day and they don't need to feed at night, they just want comfort
Our daycare will not tell us who the biting culprit is no matter the circumstances. Part of their policy. And fuck Hand Foot and Mouth disease. That shit was terrible.
Yeah they normally don't tell - but I think it was only because they knew we didn't really care- and we knew that family outside of school so it ws nbd. Yes yes yes fuck HFM... my daughter didn't care that much, but my wife got it and she was miserable.
#2 is scheduled for Friday at 12:30pm. The anxiety of "what the fuck did we do" has definitely set in. Pray for Mojo.
No biting story but some little shit poked my daughter in the eye on purpose. There is another boy with the same first name. She now calls one by his first and last name and the other by his first name and "that poked me in the eye". She's never gonna forget this one.
Did at around 3 months for the two older ones. Doing it at 10 weeks (now) for #3. The key, and I think someone mentioned it, was/is knowing they are getting enough. My wife works, she pumped, but the majority of the feeding came from a bottle, so we know how much he is eating. As long as he is eating enough, we weaned them from the night feeding and then let them cry, to a point. I slept in the room with the baby each time we did it, because I knew my wife wouldn't be able to have him cry. First night was 30-45 mins of crying. Second night was less, both other boys didn't cry at all by night 5. On night 2 for the last one
Just got home from the dentist and my 10yo is missing an adult tooth. I didn't even know that was possible, that one of the 32 teeth could just decide not to show up. Has anyone ever had that happen or even heard of that?
My brother had two of his teeth missing. He wore a retainer for a long time that had two teeth connected to it but once he was old enough they just put two implants in and you'd never know they were fake.
Once you figure out a routine (shouldn't take long), single parenting an infant is super easy. Then you get the added bonus of not getting nagged at or told you're doing something wrong for a week.
Every male on my dad's side was born without the same adult molar (third from the back on the bottom). I was able to keep my baby tooth until I was like 19 or 20, when I had it removed/replaced by a bridge.
I still have a baby tooth on my left bottom side. In the x-rays, you can see that the adult tooth is still in my gum. It just never grew and pushed the baby tooth out. You can't really see it unless I open my mouth really wide though.
My boy told me he was getting bit by this particular kid all the time. We addressed it with his teachers and they told us he was biting himself. I told a 4 year old to punch another 4 year old in the face at dinner that night, if he got bit again. He'll learn quickly. I'm not proud of this.
We dealt with HFM disease but it wasn't that bad though I did have to miss a few days of work since he couldn't go to daycare. Our teacher this week told my wife that our 15 year old is taking toys from the kids who can't walk and runs away laughing.
