Dump, The blues and stars have been in the same division since before you knew what hockey was, we just got done playing a 7 game series, and just tonight you noticed the blues fans sing that dumbass song? That doesnt sound like someone from a #RealHockeyTown to me.
Chara isn’t that good anymore. The bruins didn’t really miss him when he was out. He has no wheels anymore
They really are going to lose everyone this offseason. Going to go down as one of the worst deadline decisions of all time.
and when they don't get back to the playoffs for a long time, how important will that one series win be?
maybe they will draft and spend money on other players and find their way back. Who knows. Look at the Raptors and how trading for Kawhi worked out for them. All in favor of them going all in.
They knew the risks going in and decided to go for it because they felt the franchise needed it. All power to them and I think history will keep that in mind when they judge them. Also, their young core is pretty solid so it’s no guarantee they miss the playoffs for a long time.
There is a huge difference between basketball and hockey, these things almost never work in hockey. You can add a few pieces to complete your roster but not a few stars and expect great results when your core is barely making the playoffs to begin with.
That’s exactly why they should’ve built around that instead of destroying their picks a prospect pool
Normally I would agree that CBJ should have dealt Panarin and Bob, but that said, this is a unique situation. That fan base was bordering on apathy. To sell once again would probably have done long term damage to that brand. I think the playoff run this year is enough to get some tentacles in people that were on the fence. Yeah the next few years could be rough but at least they got something out of this season.
If that happens I will agree with you guys but this hype will die down really quick if this team goes into another 5 years of shit hockey. I would’ve gone the Nashville way when they started off. It will be interesting to follow
They don't have any draft picks this year and dipped into next year's draft pool as well. Free Agents aren't really flocking to CBJ either. Raptors also traded a single player and a 1st round pick to get a top 5 player in the NBA. Even if he leaves, they didn't lose much outside of an overpaid derozan. Also, comparing the NBA where one player can be the difference between making the finals and missing the playoffs and the NHL where the best player in the world can't even make the playoffs is really dumb. People keep talking about a fanbase bordering on apathy, what the heck do you think is going to happen if/when this team becomes a perennial 10th seed in the east? Do you really think there are going to be casual fans who look back lovingly on that one time they won a first round series?
Explain your logic please Illinihockey ? You think the incredible turnover of stars and lack of top talent coming in made the nhl terribly bad this year? Or maybe so many top players got injured? Or is it just because the hawks sucked? Or maybe I missed the joke....shit
The team had never won a playoff series, so clearly your way hasn’t exactly worked. Sometimes you have to go against the grain. I’m normally a blow it up guy, but this is a team with zero success to its name. They had a talented team that needed a kick in the ass and it almost worked. In just about any other scenario I would agree with you though.
Clawing to get into the playoffs, then sweeping the greatest team in this post lockout era is pretty damn good for a fanbase starved for any bit of post season success. I dont think it's absurd to suggest that will keep the fanbase engaged longer than a sell off and and a longer rebuild. It's not like it's Winnipeg, but Columbus isnt exactly a premiere spot for UFAs
They usually sucked at drafting, they finally get it right and they fucked everything up. It was a dumbass move
I think the caps and pens have been worn out by long playoff runs over many years, top stars have been going to teams that haven’t put anything around them, and the old power house teams have aged. The lightning should have cake walked this year and totally shit the bed
Exactly why you don’t make it your strategy to bring in guys that won’t stay anyway. If you have a fair shot at signing them, sure...if not don’t overpay for one playoff series. It won’t last
Tampa would’ve been boat raced by Boston, it would’ve been a blood bath The blues would also destroy tb easily with their physical play. Both of these teams were easily the best teams after Christmas in the nhl by a fairly wide margin, there were a few upsets in the playoffs but these are the best teams playing a great series for the Stanley cup. I don’t know what you are watching if you can’t see that.
Agreed on the caps, not the pens. They have an ahl level defense. St-louis would feast on these guys just by hitting them all night long
Right they are the best teams in the league this year but the Caps would have annihilated either of these teams. As would have the Pens in either of their back to back years.
Not sure about that at all, you seem very star driven and it just doesn’t always work like that. When the pens won the cup their d were very average but they played a soft team in the sharks that could not forecheck for shit and were also overwhelmed by the speed. Pitt was very lucky to get out of the wash series that year, fleury bailed them out big time
Rumblings of malkin for huberdeau ++ out there. Not sure I believe it but it could be something that would make sense. Panthers could sign him.
they wouldn’t have been tearing it down though. They would have been trading Bobrovsky and panarin who were leaving anyway. You don’t think a team like Calgary wouldn’t have given a decent amount to upgrade from mike smith to Bobrovsky for the playoffs? They could have gotten a shit ton for panarin as a full season rental. I know for a fact the panthers made a substantial offer last offseason that included Borgstrom and a first. They countered with barkov. They should have sold the guys who were already leaving and came back with more young talent. Instead they will be down 3 of their 5 best players without the assets to try and replace them. As for keeping the fanbase engaged. Has anyone seen corch or goose ITT after CBJ was knocked out. Hell, has anyone seen a single CBJ fan in here? You don’t convert casual fans to diehards by winning a single round and then immediately regressing. You do it by being great for a long time. CBJ blew their shot to be great.
In hockey? Yes. If they establish a winning team. Not by trading for a few stars that leave after half a season.
it's a trash rumor from a trash source. Bobrovksy and Panarin should jump the Panthers past the 7 seed.
