Yeah, just like the northwestern dude last year, duck the brakes a little But yeah this is a good pickup
it’s almost like when people complained about teams buying players under the table in the south 4 years ago
A year ago the word out of Michigan was that we were way out in front of them with NIL when it looked like we had recruiting momentum, the last 6 months the story was the complete opposite from our side.
He can never step foot on the field but if this is true, he’s already contributed more than Brandon Joseph

We will see but seems like “processing” by moving kids to nil vs scholarship to start is going to be the plan here
ND women’s lax held off Florida to advance to the quarters as well. Think they play BC next weekend. It was a good weekend for the lax teams and they’ll both be celebrating graduation on the road, which is what you want
What a pleasant surprise on this Sunday seeing a 7 page thread on Mich 247 about Jadyn Davis not getting an Elite 11 finals invite
It's not a great year for available high-level LBs, so it looks like they're pushing for Vialamu-Asa and filling in with some leaner athletic guys which can run with hopes they can fill out and develop. With the young guys looking promising (Enough to chase Collie) they have the time to develop these guys. These guys are definitely more rover/will types as they don't seem to have thumper frames, but they can all run, which is good. Building up athletic high three to low four stars is how we've ended up with players in recent years like Tranquil, Kiser and yes, even (and especially for that matter) JOK. We've quietly had success with it. Not to mention, any that don't develop can realize it quickly and move on. If there's not a glut of top LBs available this year, this isn't a bad way to go. That said, I want to land Vialamu-Asa so freaking bad.
My only worry is if one of the highly rated underclass men hits the portal and then you have guys not as talented in the wings. This class looks a step behind last years nationally and ND seems to have pretty good success developing backers so maybe I’m overreacting, for me. Not overreacting for this thread.
If guys hit the portal, it's usually because they aren't going to cut it here. Collie left because he was getting passed by younger players while trying to break through older guys above him. Yes, you want the best available getting ready in those cases, but what you REALLY don't want is nobody preparing behind them. That happened at WR over recent years and it really held the offense back. Safety depth has also been hanging precariously by a thread because of empty or nearly empty classes after missing out on top guys. I like this approach. Keep punching for your top guys while taking guys with physical traits that you think you can develop into good players. The future portal gives you a bit of a safety net both coming and going if they don't all work out, but the portal isn't enough to account for empty classes. Coaches can't just focus on who might be offended or scared, either. Again, outside of someone like Diggs, a very high percentage of transfers out of ND do so because they aren't stacking up against the rest of the roster...no matter what the nerds at 247 and on3 thought about their HS film and tshirt workouts at camps.
they moved Burnham and Junior to Vyper as well from the 2022 class and Sneed can/does play Vyper often so you only have 1 true LB from that class in Ziegler Drayk, Ausberry, and Zinter all seem to be hits though so that's good news although some of the reporters have mentioned Zinter my grow into a Vyper so who knows
this article from Matt Freeman also shows why we should put our faith in the ND (Cincy) coaching staff...they have a really really good track record of identifying and developing guys https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/20655/sunday-reflections
also, how many of us would have freaked out if Mickens brought in 2 star Sauce Gardner out of nowhere high school? I think this staff knows what they are doing when they have time to evaluate and look at kids properly
Best time to judge a class is 3 years after they sign but earliest is signing day who knows what it all looks like by the en
Good point. Also, adding in the ebbs and flows of the transfer portal adds a lot of nuance to how you judge a class even three years down the road. For example, the current and future state of our safety depth chart still makes me shit my pants, but I'm in less of a panic for the short term with the safety/nickles they've added this offseason. 2023 suddenly looks OK, but it's still fair to question the recruiting efforts there the past few years.
that 2021 Covid class was absolutely awful...sad part is that it's really hard to blame the coaches when they couldn't see hardly anyone in person
Kahoun will be a great lax player for you guys, not going to survive in football, not at the level ND is at usually. the bonus is he's not portal-ing out to go somewhere else unless idk he hates South Bend or something, he'll just drop football and be full-time lax.
it’s a big deal to me, like I did not expect it at all Take the fucking leash off now Jack and let the dog attack
Certainly good signs, we had to have thrown a pretty good offer at Carter to get him to cancel visits.
legit question - would you rather have Antonio Carter for 2 years at safety or Peyton Bowen for 3 years?
Bowen for 3 but only because it would be a good “look” on the recruiting front. Carter is PROBABLY a better bet to contribute quickly.
