I'm shocked at how worn down our defensive line was yet still kept going out there with everything they had. We didn't have much to rotate in to give them a breather.
i think the panthers will severely regret not taking a shot at a wr at the deadline (assuming they don't) this is a damn good team but woof at the receivers
We are down Johnson but the d-line is also missing Dwan Edwards and Mario Addison. It's impressive how well they are playing without those guys.
I think the team is punching above it weight. I just want to win the South. I don't think even with an added WR that the team is good enough to make a run at the SB. NFC-South has easy schedule playing the two worst divisions (AFC-South, NFC-East). We have beaten a lot of poor teams and few were convincing. We will see how we hang with a SB contender this week against Green Bay.
i was listening to the radio and couldn't believe what i was listening to. it was pure insanity "don't mess up chemistry" for god's sake your #1 wr is ted ginn or philly brown depending on which one decides to shit himself the least that week. no one is saying to add terrell owens or some nutcase. just add a pro's pro like boldin or something along those lines it blows my mind that people think the panthers should do nothing. if there is a spot for brenton bersin on this team, there is a spot for a massive wr upgrade. fuck outta here with the chemistry nonsense
Wait...are these hosts or callers who are saying the Panthers should not improve the worst wide receiver corps in football?
callers and one host who is a giants fan. the other host is a pats fan and he was echoing what i am saying. he couldn't believe that people trot out the chemistry nonsense of course the giants dude is a known retard and every other host is firmly in favor of getting help
Chemistry is a terrible reason, but shouldn't mortgage a lot of picks and a huge cap number of Megatron. If they can get a Alshon type for a 3rd-4th round then they are dumb to not to pull the trigger on it.
Here's the thing, the Panthers aren't winning pretty, but they are winning and they've shown some flashes of blowing out teams and just have a few errors that let teams (Philly, Saints, Colts) back in it. We've got a really banged up DL, our best player missed 3.5 games, and our WR's are dropping 5 passes a game, several of them easy touchdowns by Ginn. Reality is, we aren't far from winning games easily with a healthy DL that can get a more consistent pass rush, or a reliable WR corps that just catches the easy ones to extend drives and let the D rest. Granted, we aren't far from losing 2-3 of those games too. Who in the NFC do we have to beat to make a deep run? Green Bay, who we'll get to measure up against this week? Seattle, who we'd probably play in Charlotte? The Cardinals? The Falcons are a year away from Dan Quinn turning the defense around. All teams with major flaws just like us. The Bronco's and Pats are easily our worst matchups, and we can't see them until the last game of the year.
And that doesn't even address that our best OL was hurt last night, and then we lost Norwell too, and still were in a position up 20 on the Colts in awful conditions.
Like, our WR's are literally tipping passes up to defenders, regularly, and we're still 7-0 in a league where bad teams lose and good teams win. If this team ever decides to play a complete game, we're going to be really really tough to beat. There, #rant over.
Exactly. Panthers are in as good of spot as any to add a piece to make a run. Younger guys like Norman and Short making an impact on deals that will end/only be cheap for one more year. Don't mortgage the entire future but at least add something at WR that is more reliable than Ginn.
I don't like the Funchess pick, but Gettleman is the GM that turned a garbage team under Hurney into back-to-back NFL South Champs and 7-0. - Drafted Star and Short in the 1st and 2nd in 2013. Both have been very good and Short is Pro-Bowl caliber. Also added Klein who is a good 4th LB in the 5th. - Crushed 2014 with Benjamin, Ealy, Turner, Boston, Benwikere. That is 4 starters and a 3rd Safety. Really like Benjamin, Turner and Benwikere. - 2015 draft is pretty meh so far. Thompson looked alright until he got injuried. Funchess not a good pick, but might turn into a contributor. See what happens with Williams at OT. Also has found some under the radar good players as UDFA or off PS. Signed Norwell as UDFA last year and is Top 11 in NFL at LG by PFF. Found Mike Remmers off the Broncos PS and he has been a solid RT. Philly Brown was also a UDFA that is contributing. 2 above-average starters right there plus Philly. Gettleman drafted or signed as UDFA/PS seven starters in 2014 and all of those players are at least average NFL players. Those guys are why this team has any chance to be good. Managed our terrible cap situation well. Found cheap buys in FA that made an impact like Mike Mitchell then didn't match high offers where most have gone out and been a bust at that price. He has been able to successfully retool the safety spots every year for peanuts, but they end up playing pretty well. Charles Tillman is another example. Found off the scrap heap for cheap and and is a good CB. He is a little gruff and didn't communicate the Steve Smith waiving appropriately, but other than that he has been a great GM.
Love Gettleman and love Rivera. They've built a team with an identity and after what Mary Hurney left, that's really impressive.
i hate the argument of "oh this team has time no need to panic. they're still away" fuck that. ask the Nationals how the "the window will be open for a while" mindset worked out for them. the fact is, this team is a legit super bowl contender and its there for the taking. not saying to go full herschel walker but the opportunity is there and it would be beyond idiotic to not take a little bit of a risk in order to capitalize
They played the Spanish Radio announcer call of Ted Ginn's catch right before halftime to get the ball to the 45 on ESPN. You would have thought we won a game more important than the Super Bowl on a last second hail mary.
I honestly feel like Gettleman at least inquired on some wrs but didn't like the asking price. He then decided to go with the "team chemistry" line instead of the "too expensive line." Gotta instill some confidence in those shitty wrs we're stuck with.
Robby Kalland @RKalland QB: Blaine Gabbert RBs: Shaun Draughn, Kendall Gaskins WRs: Quentin Patton, Torrey Smith, Vance McDonald That's who just beat the Falcons.
Bringing this over from the Falcons thread. I was not expecting it, so it killed me. Well done, Dirty Ears Bill
