I live about 2 seconds from the escalantes in the loop and I can't agree more on the queso. Place is just good in general. I just walk up the street from my neighborhood and grab some decent Mexican anytime I want
I used to be at 515 Post Oak. We'll start our own club. We've moved on to bigger and better things. But for real I had no idea there were so many Houston people on this board. I will also take the time to say I dont think El Tiempo is worth the price. Lopez on the SW side of town is the best place I've been to for Mexican and Ive lived here most of my life.
Best BBQ Ribs: Pizzitola's on Shepard. (Maybe the best ribs of all time imo, but my opinion is the only one that counts). Best Tex-Mex: Guadalajuara Best Queso: Escalantes Best Steakhouse: Fuad's (On Westheimer, pricey but good).. Get the butterflied filet with a nice cab.. Chicks will dig that Which brings me to HtownTide and his point about chicks... Houston, being a diverse city, has all types of quality chicks from white, black, hispanic, and asian. (Don't ask me about hispanics and asians because thats not my type, no offense). You can find these fine females all over the place, but the main spots would be around Midtown and Washington Ave. Just a lot of drippers around that area on the weekends.
Oh fuck yes. My parents are obsessed with this place so when I suggest it multiple times while I'm home they're fine with it. Can't wait for next week
Not trying to dog a houstonian or anything, but your ribs opinion makes the BBQ gods laugh. They're ok. I can name 10 places in the state that are better.
I actually just went. I'll def. be going back I'm not saying it was terrible but it is literally light years away from some of the ribs you can get out there. My personal ribs aren't that great but I'll take them over what I had at pizzitolas.
Definitely not hate. I wish I could steer you somewhere in town that has better ribs but I really don't know. Gatlin's are pretty good. All I can say is if you love ribs there's a big ass world out there and your future holds some badass BBQ for you.
In Houston its up there...maybe I read your post wrong but the claim was it is tops everywhere which it is not.
It might win Houston for ribs. Gatlins is hit or miss but I bet pizzitolas is too. Either way, it's not dogshit or anything. Like I said, I'll go back.
What's everyone's burger preference? I usually hit hubcap or Christian's or this dive place over by me that I can't even remember the name. It's a fish n chips place run by Koreans who make great burgers. It's pretty funny. I've been meaning to trying the burger bus but haven't had a chance.
Burger Bus was really good, but a burger and fries runs you like $13 minimum My favorite is lankford grocery. Also really like Christians, hubcap, bellaire broiler, cliff's, rudyards. Trying out petrol station tomorrow and heard good things about griff's.
Little place over off the Beltway and Harwin. Pretty solid. Forgot about Rudyards (GOAT tater tots) and Griffs.
Becks sucks Petrol's burgers are awesome (rancor ) I had plonk's burger for the first time last week and it was delicious (the fancy one they pimp) Lankford Christians Hubcap Champ Burger (so underrated imo)
Just tried Carraba's new burger joint caddy corner from their kirby location. I definitely recommend.
My second guess...are you a short balding redhead guy that drives a black truck with a UT sticker on it? After that I am out of guesses.
Like the love for Fuad's. Most under the radar restaurant in Houston. Me, JY, and about 5 other friends and dates tore it up in there on New Years. It was a great time. Best is to go in there on a random night. Pretty sketchy bar. My dad broke his hand in a fist fight there on his 40th birthday - cool story bro.
