Hopefully I can get a Muley since most of our whitetail had died from ehd :(
My brothers shoot hoyts
my uncle shot this guy first week of bow season in chilton county AL
That's awesome and definitely the kind of bucks that need to be harvested, that old guy has got to be at least 6.
How far did he have to trail him after the shot?
Good buddy of mine guides in Colorado. Here is some of the sick shit he sees on the reg
Here are 2 bucks they found dead locked together:
not sure about any of the details yet I haven't seen him or talked to him in a few weeks... he's really high up in the alabama bowhunters association and is the guy that heads up the big deer hunt in oak mtn state park every year... owns or leases a bunch of land all over the state... pretty much just hunts for conservation or super trophies
heres another one of his favorites from last season
Y'all have some huge bucks up north...
Finally getting around to posting pics of the bucks killed on my land this bow season...
Unfortunately I didn't shoot either, I've only seen does and a couple spikes
Shot a small 7 pt yesterday evening. Nothing special but was my first archery deer.
Congrats- I got my first archery kill 2 years ago. It was such a great feeling / rush.
How did the filmed hunt go?
They damn sure do!
We are lucky to see a thick 8 pt in my area. Our land is dogshit, and its my first yr hunting since I was 16 (11 yrs ago). We have 100 acres, 5 guys hunting it, and 80 of it is 10 yr old pine. Surrounded by hardwoods, with one creek and a half dried up pond. Most hunt the creek bottoms where the hardwoods are, it has been the most successful(historically) but only a few spots and theyve already burned them up pretty good(with little success). I didnt have time to scout this summer and it kinda screwed me, the stands they have in place just arent very productive and there isnt much to climb. Scouted a little sunday, found 3 rubs on saplings. One 6 point has been shot since Sept, thats it. Sucks ass. My only hope is the loggers that surround us seem to have finished last week, so hopefully they chill a bit and I can try some new spots out.
Cliffs: where I hunt sucks, any advice?
Have you done any food plotting? It makes an insane difference in the nutrition the deer get and helps keep them on your property. Also, invest in climbing stand, or a Lone Wolf Alpha hang on stand and some climbing sticks(my preference). I use them all the time. Makes you very mobile and you aren't handcuffed to a particular area. Also, try and find the bedding area. Do you run trail cams? They also make a huge difference. It helps you gauge the quality of your herd and what you have to hunt. If you need some plotting tips, I can point you in the right direction.
Congrats man! Ain't no feeling like it. The rush you get from archery is indescribable. My first archery deer was a big, mature doe. I'll never forget it.
Also, here a few pics of some of the larger bucks I've had on my trail cam's over the last few years.
Biggest deer I've ever had on camera. Neighbor got him last day of late muzzy season 2010. First deer he's ever killed.
Couple of trail cam pics of the deer I got this year(before he was all busted up).
Damn, that's a peach of a buck. Gay.
Hey wicked where are you? Those look like Ohio deer
Better than Ohio......Iowa
You're telling me man. The first of those two I had at about 60 yards during bow season and I couldn't get him to come any closer. My ginormous dbag of a neighbor shot him shotgun season(i'm pretty sure he shot him out of his truck at night, but can't prove it). The second one I never saw during the day and that was the only pic I ever had of him. I about nutted in my pants when he showed up on cam though.
sounds like your neighbor needs to be dragged behind that truck
Oh, I've thought about doing some terrible shit to him. Last year, prime rut, I was sitting in a stand that is on our property but there is a heavily used crossing that the deer use to go to his but its 100 percent on ours. I'm about as by the book as you get so no fucking way I'm shooting on to his property. Anyway, I was doing an all day sit. That stupid fucker comes driving by on his four wheeler(on his property) and sees me sitting in my stand. What's he decide to do? Oh yeah, proceed to cut a fucking tree down and cut it up just to be a dick and fuck me out of a hunt. I've contemplated shooting that fucker and digging a hole. He makes me rage so fucking bad.
We got it all on film, but are going back to try and get a good mature buck on camera. I'm going to shoot a doe out there too, so lots of meat in the freezer this year.
My second season to bow hunt and it is a whole different ballgame. Shooting one with a rifle won't ever compare.
Swing him from the highest tree.
This is the guy your dad is concerned about not pissing off again by having a guest hunt your property?
No, that's a different neighbor. My parents live by a bunch of douches
I know how it goes w/crazy club members (pretty much neighbors)...
I'm going out at least one more time with my bow this weekend before gun opens up next week. Hopefully, something worth shooting comes within range of my stand. I would settle for a decent 6 point, since I'm still looking for my first bow kill.
my 10 year old killed his first buck this weekend, he was so damn proud of himself (as was i)
These were taken by my friends' Grandfather, 15 minutes apart, in the same tree stand
RIP to your friends grandpa... that man is about to die because he knows it doesnt get any better than that
yep, lucky bastard
I'm getting a bow for xmas what make and model should I get?
I've got a Bear archery, after getting it setup with with everything I think I was out the door for around 550-600. Not too bad IMO for me since this will be my second season hunting with it.
However if your parents are buying you one for Xmas then go and pick out a one.
i have been fighting rat holes in my levee the past month. I don't think I am goign to win the war
Killed 2 does over the weekend at my family property. 140 lb and 130 lb should really help fill the freezer
can i haz backstrap?
I didn't kill anything this weekend, sadly... I've seen a good looking buck, but he keeps staying just out of range. Either that, or he is through too much brush for a clean shot. Maybe next weekend.
I'm pretty certain I'd jizz my pants if that walked out on me.
Only saw does / yearlings this weekend, heading to the camp for Thanksgiving get to hunt Thurs - Sunday and the weather looks pretty good.
Also our pond has been loaded up with wood ducks the past few days- might take a morning and get a few of those to cook.
Yeh I would throw up, piss myself and most likely shit my pants if something like that every walked within 100 yards of me
That's exactly what I shoot. This last year's model is called the Matthews Helium. Amazing bow. I used to be a big Hoyt guy, until I shot the Z7. Switched immediately. I love their bows. So smooth!
This is my next toy. Currently trying to figure out how I'm going to get this without my wife finding out.
guys, unfortunately i don't hunt, but please send me some deer jerky. TIA
I wish I had access to better land, I havent seen a single deer in my 4 days down there. I have seen 3 in my in-laws backyard, but they were through thick brush. My father in law knows a guy that owns a plantation that does guided hunts here: http://www.clintonhouse.com/ and set me up for a free day. Pretty pumped about it, I just want to be able to watch without worrying its the only deer I may see all year. Any idea how much you typically tip the guides, cause I have no clue.
I'm sure we could work something out
Bows are expensive as hell.
Wanting to start bow hunting as well, but damn they are expensive (college student here)
Check the classifieds- try to find a bow a couple years old that someone is selling to upgrade. You can usually get something completely decked out with case, and a few arrows. I did this with my first one, was able to use it 4 years then sell it and only lose $50 and I kept the case.
This last go around I bought a 1 year old bow-tech destroyer. My buddy works at a bow shop and someone brought it in to get the newest one this year, he said show up with cash and it was mine. Again all decked out- perfect condition- saved quite a bit of $$$
This is my plan this winter.
