He’s gonna be a really really good player in a couple years, and can learn from Howard and jones can be instant impact on special teams and probably nickel packages but yeah it’s a bit bizarre with all our needs, will be interested to hear what Grier and Flores say
Apparently they are going to try him at Nickel so that they can keep McCain at safety Idk if you had to take him so early though They are entirely going need based so far in this draft, when there are holes everywhere to fill

Yeah I’m struggling with that one Our two highest paid players are our starting corners and likely will be for several years Our division doesn’t exactly have QB/WR combos that are super threatening We have what feels like far more pressing needs all over the place and higher rated players available to fill them And we take a guy who seemingly has potential, but from what I’m reading is very much a project and likely would have been available later on? Hopefully tomorrow’s picks make me feel better, but for now I don’t get this one
My disdain for Omar aside, drafting Tua completely makes up for how I feel about the other two picks. Grier and Flores pulled off a perfect smokescreen and we now have a legitimate franchise QB. I really wish they could have come up for Wirfs but once Tampa took him it was clear that they decided to invest in the kid with the higher upside and potential in Jackson over someone like Jones or Cleveland who are likely higher floor/lower ceiling. You had to get a tackle in round 1 and there's a decent chance that Jackson would have been off the board at 26 had you waited. Still a bit of a reach, but it's telling that the guys they passed on are still available.I'd feel a lot better about the OL situation if they still could come away with a high-impact player in Round 2 or 3, which there seems to be quite a few left on the board. Igbinoghene made little sense initially but it sounds like Flores wants to play a ton of man and it's clear that he's trying to take a page out of the NE playbook with his 'you can never have enough corners' proclamation. This pick seems to be getting lauded by the majority of draft pundits and his metrics are off the charts (3 TD's allowed in almost 900 career snaps is insane). With the way the safety board has shaken out, I believe this was a luxury pick, and while Grier/Flores are saying that McCain can/will play safety, they need to be all over some like McKinney, Delpit or Winfield if they are available at 39. As for RB, I expected Swift to be the pick at 26 or 30 and still think he could be the guy they're zeroing in on at 39. If he's off the board, I'd love to see Dobbins or Akers at 56 but they have to come away with one of the backs tomorrow.
First of all, what a masterful job by Grier to hide our cards. I mean up until 5 mins before the draft the morons in the local beat were convinced we were going Herbert. He didn’t fall for the smokescreens from Detroit or the giants and stuck to his guns and held off the chargers from jumping up and we got the guy we wanted without having to give up a single pick Jackson I think we could have gotten at 26 but we absolutely needed to leave the first round with atleast one OT. Kids only 20 and had 40 starts at USC. Noah I was completely out of left field but good luck throwing against us if he ends up being legit Very happy we didn’t take a RB round 1, interesting it leaked out we were taking swift before the GB trade. Let’s see if he’s still there at 39 need more OL and a RB in the next 2 rounds
Sports Illustrated has us going Swift and Winfield tonight in round 2. I’d do cartwheels Then I’ll go full homer and hope in round 3 we go for one of Van Jefferson, Zuniga or Greenard if available.
those 2 in round 2 would be nice need OL though, need another tackle and hopefully somebody like Cushenberry and we are set
There hasn’t been a single safety taken yet McKinney, Delpit, Winfield, Ashton Davis and chinn are all still out there
Give me 2 of cushenberry, Jones, Cleveland, Niang, Hunt, Hennessy in RD 2. Wouldn’t mind packaging some of our day 3 picks to get and extra 2 or 3, End today with 2 OL, S, and RB
Was thinking the same, now Grier has a lot of picks to play around with very happy we got another 4 though as there was a long drought between picks for us if we keep it
After thinking about it, all 3 of our picks were very much thinking toward the future (2+ years ahead) and not instant impact since that’s not a priority at this juncture obviously time will tell
Think there is going to be a run at safety at the top of round 2. Like Swift a lot but I think they can get a guy like Dobbins, Akers or Taylor at 56
I live in sfla and my FIL has 8 club season dolphins tickets so we go to most games. following this thread for now. I thought it was a good round for the dolphins. I’d love to see them get Higgins in the second if still available.
fully expect his rookie season to go just like mahomes did sit and maybe we give him a start in week 16 to excite the fanbase
I actually look at it a little different. I think his impact will be immediate in the sense of the depth of the defensive backfield. If we didn't have any good CB options and drafted him - it would be throwing a rookie into the fire and you'd likely not see much out of him. In this case, he strengthens the backfield as being the 3rd guy without having to cover the 1 or 2. So the whole unit is elevated. Imagine having 2 solid CBs but holes everywhere else so that teams can pass on us at-will anyway. Think if it was a WR where a team drafts a high-talent rookie but he doesn't have to be a WR1 right away but rather a WR3. (the homer in me highlights Tre'Quan Smith on the Saints last year) You'd say that team is fucking loaded on offense. So instead of plugging rookies into positions that have nothing serviceable and being slightly-less-bad across the board - the Dolphins look to make the defensive backfield a legit advantage across the board. I love that (if it works). Also hate the idea of drafting a RB in round 1. Don't even really love it for Round 2. So many guys can plug and play into that position nowadays. If we come out of this draft/offseason with the QB, a top 3 defensive backfield in the league, and hopefully some young talent to help on the OL - we're suddenly in competition for the division. You know....if there's a season.
