The Howard contract situation is worrisome. He's the best player we have had since....? Dude is unreal. I feel like the Dolphins have been very good to him as well
The guy is two years into a 6 year deal that made him the highest paid CB in the NFL at the time and wants to renegotiate. He has every right to try and renegotiate, but it's a bit silly that he already wants more.
I mean it’s smart, he just lead the league in INT’s so his stock will never be higher Don’t blame his agent for trying to get more $$
Howard's issue is most likely the fact that he has zero guaranteed money after this year and Miami can move on with no cap hit. I think they wi work something out with him that maybe adds a bit of new money but mostly guarantees some of the remaining deal. Can't say I blame him. It doesn't matter what your contract is of you dont have guaranteed money. He can blow a knee in week 16 and the Fins release him in February and he sees none of the remainder.
That sounds like some good ol' fashioned spin, but fuck, it's hard to have a good day in this. If it was an actual game, it would have been a ground and pound type of game with minimal passing attempts.
I guess I wouldn't consider it spin as much as an explanation. I think the coaching staff took the rain as an opportunity to practice a scenario where they are forced to be aggressive in shitty conditions that would normally warrant an extremely conservative game plan, like you said. New personnel, new offense, first day of practice and a monsoon. I'm not really worries about it.
That's fine. But when it comes after a practice where your "franchise QB" just threw 4 INTs it comes across as spin. IMO just say that they practiced in a monsoon and they aren't concerned and move on. Don't provide cover.
I don't get paid 4 million dollars to evaluate WRs, but one thing I remember seeing Chad Johnson tweet about is that the best WR's can change direction in 2 steps or less. Waddle was doing it in one. Nice to see.
It sucks, but kinda feels like the result of paying somebody at his same position, who is not nearly as good as him, more money
They gave X the largest contract for a CB ever 2 years ago. He wasn’t the best CB in the game when he signed it. The next year someone was going to get more. Nature of the beast. He’s got every right to ask for more now, but it’s pretty shitty. Nevermind that we are in a Covid cap where the salary cap isn’t increasing at the normal rate.
I’d rather not trade X, but we have depth at the position including a 2nd year first rd pick, and Xs knees and off field issues don’t inspire all the confidence in the world either. We’re better with him, but I’m not going to overreact to a trade as long as we get value back
than trade him? If it comes to it, yes. But he signed the deal, a very good one… they don’t have to do shit
I can’t think of the last time a player wanted to renegotiate a deal so soon after signing it. Maybe TO with that eagles deal?
All of X's guaranteed money on his deal is done and I can understand him wanting some security. If I'm Miami I'm offering maybe a pay raise but mostly converting base salary into guaranteed money. If he's not OK with that then he can hold out.
I absolutely think they inquired at first before the allegations. They'd be crazy not to have. But at this point with the compensation they want and the uncertainty around Watson I don't think he gets moved until next off-season. This is perfect for us. It give Tua another year to prove he's the guy. If not we have a first next year and two 2023 1sts. Maybe he's in Philly tomorrow but I can't see anyone meeting their price right now.
If we trade X it is bad for the short term, but probably good for the long term. I think I’d rather we pay him, but I also wonder if he can stay healthy/replicate last season more than maybe 1 more time in this contract window. Don’t envy being Grier on this one
…he’s already led the NFL in interceptions twice and a two time all pro. He’s the best player we’ve had since Taylor, I don’t see how you can get rid of a guy like that
