it kind of seems like stephen thompson just peaked at the wrong time. it was when i first started kind of knowing who guys were so take it fwiw, but in hindsight tyron woodley is just an awful matchup for his style. thompson would have been a fun champion.
He's always had a ceiling and that's a ranked 5-10 type gatekeeper for the division. He has amazing striking and movement but never learned how to defensive wrestle to a sufficient level. He also doesn't hit hard enough to get enough respect for grapplers to stay at a distance.
Not that I think it will happen but would love to see Jones get KO in the first round after this long build up of his return
