Rumor is we had an AAC invite in hand in 2015 when it looked like the Big 12 might expand. When that fell through, we were left to die in C-USA.
Screw that. I hate playing service academies. How am I supposed to hate kids who will be SEALs and Rangers in a few years?
So UConn is going to pay $11 mill+ to leave, plus I would think forfeit any remaining BE severance payments then pay entrance fees to make less in TV money and way less in exposure? All because they want to air their women's basketball games on SNY? This is awesome. All the while this is happening "The biggest individual team culprit of the UConn athletic department’s 2018 deficit was the school’s football program, which lost $8.7 million. Additionally, men’s basketball lost about $5 million, women’s basketball lost about $3.1 million and the rest of the school’s sports lost about $22.3 million among them."
I don't think UConn can afford to drop to FCS for football. I'm just talking out of my ass but I believe they still owe a ton on the stadium. Those yearly home and homes with UMass, Liberty, and New Mexico State will be riveting and certainly fill seats.
Better off staying at 11, give us like an extra 500k a team plus the million-ish per team in exit fee. I like it.
They couldn't afford one of their top 8 choices for a basketball coach How could they afford to compete in the ACC? More like the AAC since UCONN is out
Yeah, and I’d rather not have BYU join and force Memphis to the eastern division. I like that we have beaten them, what, 13 or 14 games in a row. I’m not serious, but that is possible.
I bet Navy shifts and RIP to our OL. I'm still dying at how dumb this is. They are going to lose so much money and destroy the remnants of their football team to get back with their ex who is much less attractive than before.
Doubtful. Remember,Navy requested being in the west for recruiting purposes. http://footballscoop.com/news/miles...-navy-will-join-the-american-s-west-division/ Update: Indeed, Navy actually requested to be in the West Division. “We preferred to be in the West and actually were very insistent that be the case,” Naval Academy athletic director Chet Gladchuk told the Capital Gazette. “We are very grateful to the commissioner and member schools for accommodating our wishes.”
I hope we don’t do an alliance with the P12. No reason for us big time Big 12 schools to subsidize that small time conf
UConn made a smart move assuming they are dropping football. Football is a complete money drain except for the biggest programs and that state/the entire northeast region doesn’t give two shits about the sport. I doubt any power five expansion happens anytime soon and even if it does UConn was not near the top of best candidates. Get back to your roots of being a basketball school. Playing in the big east will lead to bigger crowds and more money for the basketball program and save tons of money on travel for the other sports.
No Sunday games makes scheduling a nightmare, especially for Olmypic sports. So much more missed class time And it's a bad look for whatever conference because BYU is so anti-LGBT and not supportive of victims of sexual assault. Big 12 student groups were huge in getting the conference to pass over them
This is why it makes no sense that they’re really considering Liberty, they have these same issues without any of the benefits that BYU brings.
