NEWTOWN— State police are responding to a report of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dickinson Drive, school officials said. Police are reporting multiple shooting victims. Shortly after 9:40 a.m., police reported that a shooter was in the main office of the school. A person in one room had “numerous gunshot wounds,” police said. Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers. Some students were still in the school at 10:30 a.m., parents said. Dozens of state troopers are on the scene assisting local police. Heavily armed police gathered in front of the school around 10:45 a.m., and a number of stretchers were set up. A staging area has been set up for students and their parents near the school. Area hospitals have been alerted. I think it would be more convenient to just have the school systems provide shotguns for each classroom. Some kids can't afford their own handgun.

[Updated at 12:27 p.m. ET] The mom who spoke to CNN's Meredith Artley said she heard "at least 100 rounds" being fired. The shooting began about 9:35 a.m., the parent said. There was a "pop pop pop" in the hall outside the room. Three people went out of the room into the hall where the sounds had come from. "Only one person came back," we were told. The witness told Artley that she then called 911. She said she never saw the shooter but she later was escorted outside the room past two bodies lying in blood.

It doesn't change the truth of his post. Car accidents killed 32,000 people last year, with a significant percentage of them children. Should we ban cars?
Guns make it really easy to kill a larger number of people in a short amount of time. They are much more efficient weapons. There is a reason guns are used in the military over less effective weapons like knives. I don't think it's a stretch to say it would be harder for these psychos to kill multiple people without a gun. That is why they are using a gun. Now, actually limiting their access to a gun is easier said than done.
