My twitter feed is cracking me up with people reacting to this bombshell news intermixed with pictures of DWade at the Met Gala
What purpose does anger at Republicans from a board largely full of liberals serve? Yes, fuck Republicans. They are the bad guys. The only conversation worth having is how do we stop them. The group in power that could do that if it chose to is the Democratic Party. So I'm more angry at them for being spineless or corrupt liars or both.
reminder the people just as culpable for this are the ones with the W the President stickers on the back of their SUVs 15 years ago they too, knowingly wanted this.
this ain’t it, personal sovereignty must extend at least to the edge of your skin. Abortion as population control for the poor and unwanted is an abhorrent position. the right to your body is absolutely fundamental, if you start straying into weird social engineering arguments you open the door to all kinds of shit.
The list of countries where abortion is illegal (or possible to be made illegal on a non-federal level). Truly illustrious territory we have joined! USA Andorra Angola Dominican Republic Congo Egypt El Salvador Gabon Haiti Honduras Iraq Laos Madagascar Malta Marshall Islands Maritania Micronesia Nicaragua Palau Philippines San Marino Sao Tome and Principe Senegal Suriname Tonga
I get it, but you can’t really fault liberal politicians for not codifying Roe when Manchin is the 50th vote and isn’t going to do it. Cal Cunningham keeps it in his pants and they probably could.
Murkowski too. Good point. I suppose they might flip over. But even if they voted for, would they vote to gut filibuster on this limited issue? I was sort of surprised that Casey was willing to vote in favor. Manchin is only Dem opposed isn’t he?
It's cool how rapists will be able to have more say in reproductive rights than the rape victims. Totally not something you see in a third world country.
They might not gut the filibuster to defend abortion rights, but the GOP will absolutely gut the filibuster to federalize an abortion ban
I'd say that trying to overturn gay marriage would be overplaying their hand but I thought the same thing about abortion not too long ago so who knows. Fun times!
make Collins and Murkowski vote on an exception to the filibuster for rights previously found to be constitutional rights but are no longer protected due to Supreme Court decisions that violate stare decisis You could even let them know that their vote will protect gun rights when some future President appoints 15 justices to overturn Heller
Make him vote against it. Enough with the bullshit that's led us here. The institutions aren't worth protecting in their current form. If Manchin won't get out of the way, run his ass over (day late and a dollar short)
One enjoyable thought I just had - Alito has been licking his chops for years at the idea of getting to write this opinion. He probably spent days coming up with the most ghoulish and condescending language he could think of, which is saying something for him. His big moment was going to come. And now it's been leaked ahead of time. Hopefully he's pissed.
there is only one way out of this mess and honestly i don’t think we can purposefully direct enough young men with jodie foster obsessions to handle it
He already has when they brought it to a vote before. It’s not exactly a tough play for him. He’s a pro-life senator in a very conservative state.
Manchin voted against abortion protections in february. he’s not voting for them now. I’m sure dems will absolutely botch messaging on this and let republicans control the narrative because that’s what happens these days but by golly do you remember the time queen nancy clapped at trump that one time?
To predict what Dems will do just think of the fucking dumbest approach possible. My guess is a vote condemning leaks of SCOTUS draft decisions
Oh that’s going to be the loudest part of this for sure in our stupid media with our stupid politicians.
If they were smart they would hammer home how the Republicans support rapists' rights over that of the victims.
