Legit debating to move at this point. I do think they'll eventually outright ban abortion across the country. I'm flying to Toronto today for a work trip. Not sure I'll be able handle the winter if we were able to move there since I've always lived in the south, but that's a small price to pay if we decide to leave this shit hole of a country. I bitched about people on here suggesting this before as being a privileged and shameful thing to do, but at this point it's so clear Dems will never have the guts to actually attempt to save this country. If you have the means to leave I would not blame you one bit.
In this scenario, are we going to pretend like the court wouldn't just make a up reason to say that law was illegal?
This is a regressive decision no doubt but we can all take solace in the fact it was made by lawyers.
You keep doing it, changing the law however much it needs each time and keep forcing them to overturn it.
Love all the dems on Twitter who are like omg vote! ok and then what you have a majority right now and have done jack shit
B-b-but we don't really have a majority despite FLOOODING my state with ads that said they would be able to pass meaningful legislation if we voted blue on our Senate runoffs.
Oh l definitely was skeptical once Biden clinched the nomination but you know harm reduction and all.
Also a little surprised that the judges didn’t think about their personal lives when they did this. Have fun trying to eat out in DC again. At best they’ll be undisturbed at their table eating food that a cook dragged his nuts across. But more likely they’ll be heckled out of every public place they’ll try to go
As a truly independent, libertarian, “just asking questions” guy, I look forward to Joe Rogan obviously having a show to address why the overturning of RvW is a bad idea. You know, at least just ask questions about it and stuff.
Omg they could fix all the things if it wasn’t for pesky manchin and sinema and the other cowardly senators hiding in the background and their donors and their ideology and the parliamentarian and norms and the meanie republicans and their material interests and the dang courts! go vote!
I really try and not get to involved with politics or let my emotions get to much with government but this legitimately has me really upset. Ever my conservative wife is furious and sad.
I guess better late than never. But this is what happens when fascists reach the level of power they have here. Calling them that isn’t just heated rhetoric, it’s necessary rhetoric. I’m afraid things are going to get much worse before they get better.
"Every child deserves life." But, we're not going to provide healthcare to the mother while she's pregnant, and we're not going to give you any healthcare once you're born. Really, we just want to make sure you're born, then you're on your own. The R way!
The scary part is they really don't even have all that much power currently. They're just extremely effective at wielding what power they do have. Meanwhile, the Dems control the presidency and both chambers of Congress and just sit back and twiddle their thumbs while the fascists take over. We're all fucked. Marbles if you have any conservative gay relatives, you might want to give them a heads up that they're not going to like what's coming next.
I don’t think she’s ever voted in an election and thought she was conservative because that’s what her parents were. She’s never really taken a deep dive into politics but just clung to what her parents said.
Just like the Nazis before 1933, they have enough power to grind government function to a halt. And that’s all you really need to end democracy.
He didn’t he even pick them. He had no clue. He sold the seats to the Republican party so that he could become president.
If this isn’t enough to outrage you, Obergefell is next. We live in such a horrible fucking country with a completely busted and morally bankrupt system.
Well as a minority living in hell world let her know we said welcome to the party. She’s on the chopping block along with the rest of us when I’m sure she never thought that was possible.
Forced birth in a country with the highest maternal mortality rate, no paid maternity leave, no universal, subsidized childcare, no continued birth parent care, frequently inaccessible mental health care, no required cost sharing of the pregnant women's medical care
Idk if the court is even class conscious enough for this but feels like they're trying to ensure a steady stream of working class folks to feed to the machine
I don't even really get why they care when their feeling towards most people who get an elective abortion range between indifferent (poor white people) and outright disdain (poor non-whites). The outrage they have towards abortion seem so performative.
Maybe I’m giving Dems too much credit, but I think they’ve got a decent shot of keeping a 50/50 senate GOP basically has 4 targets: Arizona, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Nevada. I think you can scratch NH off for sure. They’ve not recruited any good candidates and/or fundraisers in New Hampshire, so I think Hassan is probably safe. In Georgia, Herschel Walker is a lunatic, and Warnock is a really good candidate with lots of money who is going to expose Walker in general election. Then in Arizona, they have no great obvious candidate, and Kelly is a good candidate and popular senator with a ton of money. I think they’ll pick of CCM in Nevada, but that’s probably it. Dems have 3 targets: Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Don’t see them performing well in Ohio, but I could easily see them picking up one of Penn/Wisc, especially with Ron Johnson’s stupidity and unfavorable ratings. Obviously could still swing hard other way, so I think they’ve got a shot, and if they do, they better keep Manchin happy.
Counterpoint: we aren’t doing a damn thing about global warming, so winter won’t even be a thing soon
No. That’s only the three Trump appointees. George HW Bush won popular vote in 1988 (Thomas) and George W. Bush won the popular vote in 2004 (Alito).
You really need that Ivy League law school training if you hope to make the world the worst it can be. 15 plumbers couldn’t have come to so horrid a conclusion.
Any person or company that isn’t coming out with a full throated condemnation of the Republican Party when discussing this issue is complicit.
