I started it 15 months ago and have only gotten about 1/3 of the way through it. I just realized its the highest avg rated book per GoodReads that I've read. I loved ASOIAF and the Kingkiller Chronicles as they in some of my favorite books I've ever read. However, I've started, stopped and picked up again The Way of Kings probably 3 or 4 times since last Spring. Maybe its a slow, slow build-up but I keep going back to starting and finishing other books after reading a chapter or two. And I finish any book I start probably 99% of the time so based off its popularity, I'm surprised in myself that I can't get into it so far. Thoughts?
I think Stormlight Archive has the potential to be the goat epic fantasy series. Absolutely finish it.
Not all books are for all people, but it and #2 are highly and universally recommended for anyone interested in that genre.
Having just read both, I'd obviously recommend it. But if you're having trouble getting into it, it might just not be for you. But considering the other series you've read, plus how great I think these first two books are, I'd absolutely recommend reading it.
I will say I was slower to get into twok than I anticipated. I set a goal to read 5-10% a night and reading some of it every night definitely helped me get into the book. By the end, I was reading a couple hundred pages a day, and that kept going with words of radiance.
I tried The Way of Kings maybe 2 years ago and couldn't get through the prologue then first chapter. Not sure why but it did nothing for me. Tried it again a few months ago and couldn't put it down.
took me awhile to get into it too read a little bit then put it down for a few months once I finally decided to power thru it I fell in love with it and read book 2 in about a week
Well it seems like a few of you were in my situation and are glad that you powered through it. I read it over the weekend again and just got past the part where the king has a dream where he in the distant past and is killing some version of giant spiders in a village.
I'm fairly certain this will be my favorite book series ever, so my obvious recommendation would be to finish it. Both books were amazing, imho.
