Meh, if they put in the 12 "most talented" or "best" teams there would be upsets frequently, but they can't really do that bc it invalidates the majority of the season. You could easily fil a 12 team bracket with games that would be 3-4 pt spreads. Instead Boise St gets a 1st round bye and will be a double digit dog. No good answer really. You have to reward the teams that win their schedules, but it inevitably leads to this every year.
the season would be absolutely meaningless if they just put bama in because of past success. Bama losing the way they did to oklahoma and the fact that It was just before the playoffs sealed that deal. If nd loses to niu in november instead of september I am not even sure nd gets a home game. edit, I made that about bama but it’s the same for ole miss and south carolina. They had playoff games in their season and lost to bad opponents. Nd has been on a do or Die situation since the niu game. Same for other teams. You just gotta take care of business
I’m still laughing at dbl and a few others propping up the 2024 iteration of the SEC by referencing the 2005 SEC. Have some self respect.
The announcers are striking all the right chords now... Penn State has a shot Franklin wins big games
Lane might be coming off a little whiny in his tweets, but I do truly feel bad for all the undefeated teams that got left out of the playoff. What else were they supposed to do?
I’m fine with the teams selected but don’t like that fringe top 10 teams ASU/BSU get byes. Makes for worse matchups.
It's the best conference this year. There's 6 sec teams that can, on a good day, beat a playoff team. No other conference has more than 3. Not saying all 6 are great, just all 6 have a good fastball that can play with anyone on a good day.
I love this new schtick ´on a good day’ not on the vanderbilt or oklahoma day but on a Day like when Saban used to coach them
If Vandy and Oklahoma can beat Alabama (and blow them out in the case of the latter) then there’s about 15 teams that could beat Bama, on a good day, and absolutely no reason why they should be in the playoffs.
The committee’s disrespect for northern Illinois is damning. Proved they could beat a top team in their only chance and still got left out cold. Awful for the sport.
I'm not arguing they "should" do that, just saying that's what it takes to make it competitive. They won't do it that way, nor should they. And I agree, Bama lost all argument after that OU game. Committee made the right call with the rules they have to follow. I do think a semi-reasonable qualifier should be something like "you have to either win your conference OR have a top 25 win". In most cases, that would not eliminate a team that deserved to be there.
Buddy it's more like 40 teams. The Bama that played Vandy and OU probably doesn't even go 11-1 with IU's schedule, the one everybody is hating on.
lol more than 20 jets from Dallas to State college Saturday and only a few were able to land in State College https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2024/12/21/billionaires-grounded-mustangs-routed-at-penn-state
