honestly, this would be 3-0 if not for VdV. I don't know what happened, but we suddenly look like a relegation team the last few matches.
No shots on target . We're really limping to the finish line. Just get this year over so we can get to transfer season. A lot of changes need to be made if we want to finish top four and actually compete with the big boys. I like our starting defense but depth is an issue. Midfield and forward are a mess. Wingers we have a bunch of decent guys but no one world class besides Son who's aging. Also still have tons of dead weight we need to sell and not keep loaning.
Gutless. Only positive I can think of is we need to bring in players this Summer and can’t sit back and just say they are here already.
There won't be a budget without European football though. I don't get continuing to run Bryan Gil out there when we actually have some promising guys in our U-21 who could use the experience.
It’s time to make some tough choices up front. The front line just isn’t good enough. I’m officially out on Kulu. Dude just doesn’t have the finishing touch we saw the first few months he was here. BJ is a nice squad option and a spot starter. Son unfortunately is past his prime. His scoring has fallen off a cliff. A major overhaul is needed. Not sure we’re going to see it though.
I think we always thought we were in a rebuild coming into the season, and that first 10 games (despite Ange's warning) gave us higher hopes and aspirations. I don't think we need a wholesale overhaul, but I do think we should continue to make tough decisions like possibly selling Son so we can continue to stock up and rebuild the front line and the rest of the team. Son has been absolutely terrible since returning from the Asian games. I also would like to see some of these young kids get a shot as they do look really promising.
Son has 2 years left on his deal? Think so. His play has declined this season, for certain, but I'll bet they want to keep him another year. Not sure what to make of Kulu and Maddison. Maddison's play of late, in particular, is scary. Kulu isn't a natural 10 - never will be, but he's a decent player (who is still young) when he's asked to do what he does best. Situational starter as a forward. Maddison was supposed to be the solution at attacking mid - they have quite a lot of money invested in him - and it's a big problem that he's playing this poorly. That said, as bad as he's been, they look stiff and simplistic when he's not on the pitch -- their only real threat is Johnson out wide throwing in crosses. In short, they need a guy who can stay on the ball up top, can thread a pass in between defenders, and has enough finishing that he has to be defensed at the edge of the box, and none of our guys can do it right now. Means they'll have to spend their transfer money there (which sucks, because they need to upgrade a midfielder and need a fullback to push Porro and Udogie). I think they'll try to offload Richarlison (who doesn't fit this offense) and go cheap on a 9. Maybe platoon the striker, blow their wad on a wide player, and hope Maddison gets back to form next year. I also think big clubs are going to come in and wave a huge sum of money for Romero, and for a club that will be playing Europa Conference *at best* next year, that might be tough to resist. This is clearly going to take a couple of years to build, and that means some tough decisions to stay in good financial standing.
Three days ago: “Romero is the only one with any guts, I wish I could put a little of Romero in all of the other players.” Today: “we should sell the only player with any guts.”
Guys, I don't want him to go, not in the least, but he's one of the best defenders in the game. He and VdV are, by far, our best players. Hope they stay for as long as possible. I also get we are Spurs, in the first year of a major rebuild.
I didn't interpret it as you saying he should go. I just feel that there is a difference between selling Kane int he last year of his contract at his age when he wants to go and selling Romero, and I am not saying that you are doing this but others would argue Spurs would sell no matter what if a big offer came, and I just don't think we are that team right now with our new revenue streams. I think it would be an absurdly bad message to send to the team.
lol at selling Son. Bad run but he’s still good. Also he’s worth so much more just from a marketing standpoint. And we’re going to South Korea this offseason. Kulu was our best player vs arsenal. If we ended season on run we started we’d be ecstatic. Give the man some time. Strengthen midfield, striker and wing back and run it back.
Over the last two seasons he has had multiple very long bad runs of form. I feel like every player has a time to cut them loose and he is getting older and speed is a huge part of his game. Don't get me wrong, I am fine keeping him but we are in a rebuild. How much does he really have left in the tank?
I guess Maddison is hurt, hence not starting. I guess he's not starting guys who won't be here come August. Only thing I can think of, bc this lineup is a recipe for a 4-0 loss.
Good crossing from Johnson, deki needs to provide the far post option rather than drifting centrally.
Granted I know nothing about Richys health, but I’m playing Som on the left against Alexander Arnold.
