Nice way to end that tourney, I'll take it. Wish we could have given UNC a better effort. That OU won is going to end up being a quality win. Not sure this UConn win will. They just look easy to defend with not much for perimeter threats.
Agreed. That OU game was a solid win. Great run in the tourney and I am happy with how we played. Walton is insane though.
That UNC game was important for strength of schedule come selection Sunday, and of course the experience in playing an elite team. We're still missing two valuable pieces on this team in Cook and Garland. When they get back we'll have even more depth and should maintain our place in the top 25
I believe Cooks court date is in early December and Garlands doctor appointment with cardiologist to get cleared is in January. Unless I'm mixing those two up
Don't let the Tennessee coaching fiasco distract you from the fact that Arkansas basketball just handed UCONN their worst loss in literally 40 years, and the first time they have given up 100 in regulation since 1995.
I don't know much about Chad. I know several coaches at Clemson said nice things about him. I expect to see speed being an issue with moving to a spread offense and a point of emphasis going forward. Not underwhelmed like the Herm hire, but not excited either. Hoping he can pull an impressive staff, we're going need it ghg wps
i'll wait to see how he hires and how he recruits. if we go bowling next year i will consider his first season a success.
If he can find a way to bring in some solid position coaches I won't be as down on the hire. I know I have a different view of the program than most of y'all, but without a real solid coaching staff, I think Chad is pretty underwhelming.
so far he has brought three guys who were GAs at Clemson who followed him to SMU. i want to blow my fucking brains out.
I really don't care who he hires on the offensive side of the ball. I care about defense and recruiters. If he brings a bunch of SMU guys who suck at recruiting or a bunch of national hot stuff coaches who suck at recruiting it's all the same problem. If they can do the job I don't care. But we do need talent on the defensive staff. Thankfully Yurachek said point blank that he expects a coach who is strong in one area to hire a coordinator who is really strong in the other. Morris' OC is a yes man. There's been a lot of chatter about his offensive staff but I haven't heard a thing about defense. Tells me he's working on bringing a good one here. Look at me being patient.
OL coach is Dustin Fry WR coach Justin Stepp And sounds like we're working on trying to get RB coach Jeff Traylor (good recruiter) As far as DC's idk yet, but he's got at least a $1.5 million budget to get one, so that'll make the candidate pool as wide as anyone's.
Sounds like Traylor is one we should really want. If they get Traylor and keep Lunney that fills our offensive staff. They could try to keep Smith I suppose with the extra assistant coming online in a month or so.
I dont see how they dont keep Lunney considering he has gotten every instate player they've offered except KJ in his five years.
also, since they might be somewhat scrambling to put together this class i hope they end up offering bishop, page and maybe even ferrell.
Bishop and Bohanon are likely to happen. Page isn't going to qualify and Ferrell I don't think is SEC caliber.
We did offer Bishop, but he didn't want to commit right away so we filled his spot. Obviously that's no longer an issue.
Let’s be real. Every one of those SMU assistants is a better coach than what they are replacing. There was a host today who made a comment that there are probably a couple SMU recruits who could play at Arkansas.
I'm not so sure the coaches were babbling idiots and the issue was the Joes not being SEC players, certainly not enough are
Well again the coaches take responsibilities for lack of recruiting the right type of players to Arkansas. Definitely the OL coach will be an upgrade.
No doubt. Not sure if you saw but there is a lengthy article out there on Morris’ offense at Clemson and it breaks down how it’s essentially a quadruple option. But the most interesting and also scary thing is how much focus it puts on the play of the OL and specifically the Guard play as they will be pulling and responsible for significant blocking schemes. The good is he has someone who he was comfortable last year coaching OL and the bad is my concern if our current OL will be able to pick up and learn his system quickly. Oh and if they will be in shape to run it. Looks like we will finally get an upgrade at OL like Bert promised but designed for a different scheme.
I like that he is offense and has a history of doing more with less. We need that at Arkansas. The jury is out on what his teams can do so I will wait but I'm not "thrilled" about the hire like if we we're to have gotten Norvell but I'm not nearly as bummed out or baffled as I was when we hired Bret. I want to see how this first season goes and how his recruiting is before I really decide.
Under Chad you won't have the heaviest offensive line in the country. What you should expect a bit more athleticism and lots of sweeps so your guards are going to pull a lot. Also, in the passing game lots of screens as a part of the run game. Honestly, Clemson's offense improved with Chad leaving because there was more a commitment to the run. Chad wants a gap blocking scheme so a lot of power a gap runs will happen if he sticks to the run game. In the end, I think the fan base will rally around him. He will put out an exciting offense. Lots of tempo. His goal is to snap the ball with 25 on the play clock.
Scenario: It's 4th quarter, 2 minutes to go, you have the ball, you're up by 4. Does Chad milk clock and run the ball or does he hurry up and throw it, potentially pulling a Texas A&M to give UCLA the chance to win?
Both Long and Bielema congratulated their successors and welcomed them. It's why I don't hate either like I did with Nutt when he left.
Abandoning the run too soon and trying to be the smartest guy on the sideline. Example, against Usce in Columbia one year we are just running the ball down their throat, heading in for a score, he calls a wr pass by having Sammy throw to Adam Humphries that is overthrown and of course intercepted.
Eh, he's got the national perception of being an arrogant fuck.... but he's genuinely a good dude and does a lot of classy things
Thank you for that and just tell me to shut up if I get annoying. How do you feel about some people saying they see a lot of similarities between Slaw today and Clemson the year Chad joined the staff there?
Yeah the players loved him. He ran a clean program and helped bring our GPA up from shit tier to around the highest its ever been here. If he had won the last couple of games last year and not collapsed this year, he would still be here and people (not named bturns ) would have called you crazy when discussing whether he kept his job or not. Same with Long.
