Ran for the first time in two months after resting my back for s while. 2 slow miles, we'll see how it feels tomorrow.
2 mile run. First one since getting back from vacation. Also first run with my garmin 235. I really like it so far, but any tips uplaoding runs to strava?
Watch is saying my vo2 max is 45. Not sure what this means but it looks like it's a little better than average?
No idea about those numbers but I know you have a while to catch Pre Steve Prefontaine84.4 http://www.runningforfitness.org/faq/vo2-max
10k finished. 60:48 unofficial time. Heat and Hills hurt. Kept telling the water guys to just throw it in my face.
Thanks guys. I figured out how to link strava to garmin connect but my morning run never transferred over. Maybe my next run will.
5k small local race this morning. PR'd it with a 23:16 time. Good enough for 2nd place in my age group, first top 3 finish!
That's great. Congrats. I've been running slow the last two days, but I expected it since I took a two week vacation. After 2 days I have my garmin 235 working pretty well. Very happy with it so far. Today's run synced up with strava too so that's nice. My only concern is battery life. I'm not sure if i have apps or gps or something running in the background draining the battery. I charged to 100% last night before bed and wore it overnight to track sleep, then did a 2 mile run. Now I'm at 91%. Not sure if that's normal.
Couple questions from an out of shape ball player trying to get better. I'm doing a battle frog in December. First time doing any type of race/obstacle course. Any suggestions on training? I've been running pretty much everyday for the past month. I usually do a mile, then do sprints/plyometrics, then do a half mile back home. I pretty much haven't done any cardio in the past five years so I have a lot of lung capacity to build back up. Also, what type of underwear/shorts do y'all wear to run in. Boxers are killing me and I have a few shorts that have the liner built in but not liking them. Thinking of trying tommy John underwear. TIA
Don't think I will see anything near perfect running weather again until the fall. It's hot and humid as fuck now.
Do any of you guys also lift, or just run? I'm contemplating a 6-week plan until training for my next half, and this is what I'm thinking: M/W/F: squats/Romanian deadlifts (3x10 supersets), bench/rows (3x10 supersets), pullups/tricep extensions (3x10 supersets), calf raises (3x20), abs, 30min stationary bike T/TH: 4 miles Sat: 6 miles I might switch out the Wed workout and go to a hot yoga class instead, just something to increase flexibility. Or maybe just do a boatload of stretching. I really don't know.
i tend to do 10-12 minutes or so of stretching/mobility before every workout and some in between the lift portions (that tie into the circuit). for ex: this week i'm working on a decent amount of shoulder mobility because i want to improve my overhead squats. what kind of squats are you supersetting with the RDLs: air, front, back? i like to do 3 rounds of max effort pull-ups with 7-10 negative pull-ups right after.
I have 20lb and 30lb dumbbells. I do a quick workout consisting of curls, buterflys, shoulder lifts and tricept extensions during the day at work. I also do some crunches and pushups. It's quick. Like 1 set of each, usually 20-30 reps. 5-10 minutes total. Just trying to do something. I will never go to a gym so a real workout isn't realistic for me. I just try to get into a routine that I can sustain longterm.
I'm using this as a guide reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/37ylk5/a_linear_progression_based_ppl_program_for/ I've lost weight diem to 165 from 195, so i want to try to add some muscle back. In the past ive usually done a 4 day split (chest tris, back bis, shoulders traps, legs), wanting to do something new
8 mile long run today @ 8:55 pace. I keep saying I'm going to get my mileage consistently up into the 20-30 mile per week range but man it has been tough for me to schedule that. Add in the fact that I use to do a couple lunch runs but now it's so damn hot. I may have to look into a lunch treadmill run at the gym.
Run 4 Pies 5k is tomorrow. Think I'll end up about 45 seconds short of earning a pie... Unless adrenaline pushes me over the hump.
I do a little over 20 push-ups a day, used to do sit-ups and curls with Dumbbells but kind of petered out from it. I read somewhere that building your legs up from weights wasn't a good idea for runners. It gave a good examplesê of all the Kenyan runners, they said the best traing for running is running
Yesterday was Cross-Training or Core workout. Wife suggested I do the Pilates workout on one of her DVDs. Fuck that shit! So much pain. Great 8 mile long run this morning. Some guy was playing bumper cars between the 3 lanes on the Parkway I run along. Someone got him to pull over then a guy walking his dogs went and took his keys out of the ignition while they waited for the cops. The guy could barely keep up right while leaning on his car.
Week out from my 5k and I totally dogged it today. Maybe it's the heat, maybe it was the bloody Mary's last night, maybe it was staying up too late watching the finals. The next 3 days I've got to crank it back up tho.
3.5 at an 8:40 pace. Would have finished faster but I fucking bit it near the end of my run. Went to the gym did a good hiit, strength and plyo workout. Decided to go on 3 mile run felt okay after 3 so decided to keep going. Well was tired took a misstep and didn't see the sidewalk was raised and all of a sudden Beo down. Walked the last bit. Luckily only my pride was bruised.
First half is in the books, even though it sucked. Several crucial errors were made: A) Wife said she would set the pace (she's more consistent with that). But she started off at a 10:45 pace instead of a 12:00 pace. Oops. B) We drove 5 hours yesterday with the Jeep windows down and top on. Even trying to keep hydrated, we were jerky. C) We stood in line at Cedar Point for rides all day in 90 degree heat for 6 hours or so. We didn't hydrate as much as we should here either. But whatever, I finished in 2:55:00. I was on pace through 10, but then had to walk the last 3.1 because I thought I was going to die. Live and learn.
Oh, and 1 other issue: D) I couldn't poop when I woke up. I've pooped every morning for 39 years, sometimes multiple times. No idea why other than dehydration, I guess. Luckily I didn't need to yard shit on the course.
The Race 4 Pies 5k was a disaster... 90 degrees, 70% humidity at 7pm. Event was super crowded, with over 2k "athletes" in attendance. Mom's with strollers pushed to the front... Complete disorganization. Compounding things, I pushed myself through a 90 minute Orange Theory workout that morning. I thought 12 hours would be plenty of time to recover. I was wrong. I managed a 23:59. Splits were 7:10, 7:52, 7:59... My legs, lungs & pretty much everything else gave out at about the mile marker. Managed 19th in my age group though (35-39)
I can't imagine running a half after a full day at Cedar Point, knowing how a day at Kings Island wears me out. Congrats on finishing your first. I can't imagine it was much cooler there than here.
this pisses me off to no end. That and people starting off in the wrong gate. You're 250lbs there's no need for you to be in the 8 minute pace group.
Burned so much energy dodging assholes over the 1st mile. Wife & step-daughter were positioned close to that marker & said, "You looked really pissed off when we saw you pass us, what happened?"
Did 1 trail race and that was the whole experience. Just dodging slow people (I'm slow but these people were going at a snails pace) on single track. I was completely spent within the first 1.5 mile.
Today was beautiful, around 60 at the start with a bice breeze, 65-68 upon finishing. The self-inflicted wounds were just ... bad.
i wish it wasn't so motherfucking hot already. managed to run 6 miles on the treadmill today but it has to be the most boring thing in the world to do.
So guys, when you're almost 40 and spend two days at an amusement park with a half sandwiched in-between, you feel like shit the day after. Just an FYI.
Starting to get back into running after a two year hiatus. On trails, I did 2.36 miles in 26 min 40 seconds, and then completed the same run in 23 min 29 seconds yesterday. My goal is to run the Colorado Marathon in May 2017; I've done two halfs before, but this will be a huge step up for me. I didn't train enough for the halfs, so I'm looking forward to adequate training. Looking forward to spending more time in this thread! Happy running y'all.
