I missed the 1989 show because I went to a Metallica show at the Civic Arena the month before and lied to my parents about driving into the city. I was in high school and told them I had a ride but needed to drive to a friend's house to catch the ride (who happened to live 20 miles away and went to a different school). My dad knew I was lying and checked the odometer on the car before I left, then grounded me from the car for a month when I returned.
Saw an article about GRR Martin being a big dead fan. Said there are references throughout ASOIAF and the Weirwood trees are named after Bob Weir. /coolstory

Saw this last year at bonnaroo. That's when I discovered Cowboy Neal. WHAT A BADASS...besides the whole gay thing.
I believe it is set as a secret group though. So Idk,but its a really good marketplace for tickets. Especially if you are in the southeast
This is where you buy the pay per view(thanks daddy)and for some reason it has MLB.com in it? Streaming it through the MLB.TV app? http://dead50.mlb.com/concert/dead50/
"On the Road" and "Dharma Bums" had such a huge influence on me when i was 17 reading Kerouac led me to reading about Zen. And once I had read several books about Zen i began to understand what the fuck the Grateful Dead was singing about most of the time. sometimes i wonder if people make the connection between eastern religion, the 1950's beat movement, and a lot of the music of the 60's and 70's (Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan).
I'm probably just behind, but I just saw The Other One: The Long Strange Trip of Bob Weir is coming out on Netlfix, May 22. I'm pretty excited to watch that.
this is irrelevant, but back in the day one of Jerry Garcia's daughters posted nudes of herself on another message board that i frequent.
Picked up the Newsweek Grateful Dead special edition at the airport yesterday. Fascinating read with a lot of great pics.
Going to see JGBCB and Saints of Circumstance tonight. I'm pumped because I'm not ashamed to say that I prefer the JGB over the Grateful Dead. I guess it's the soulful aspect.
Nothing wrong with that. I go back in forth between Jerry Garcia Band and GD all the time. Holefully they are talented because the song selection will be nice
I really enjoyed this documentary. It focuses mostly on the dynamic relationship with Jerry, but there's a good bit of stuff in the beginning on Ken Kesey, Neal Cassady, and the merry pranksters too.
Kreutzmann did a long interview/co-host thing on Sirius/XM JamOn yesterday. It was pretty cool. They're doing a GD theme all weekend.
Watched it yesterday and the part with his family pointing out he was the one that wasn't dead yet was pretty funny
It's pretty good... but, honestly, it could have been better. Felt like they tried to cover too much ground with such a short biography. But I liked that they mixed in so much of his modern music and playing. Really a nice touch. On another note, I see those guys still come across as pretty hypocritical when it comes to drugs. His comment about not having sympathy for people getting nabbed for drugs at their shows was quite frankly, bullshit... when 10 minutes earlier he talked about being Jerry's "bagman"...
I kinda view heroin dealers a little differently than kids out on tour who got picked up in shithole states with a sheet (or less... a fucking 10 strip) and ended up rotting away in prison for 10, 15 years. Hopefully Bob makes that distinction as well.
