I spent an entire set at the Omni in ATL trying to help my buddy understand the beer he spilt on himself was not people pissing on him.

In 1992, we had seats behind the stage at The Palace in Auburn Hills Michigan. It was an arena and we were sitting upper deck looking down at the band and the audience facing us.

I spent the whole first set worrying we were in the wrong seats without back stage credentials.

It’s not the same, but it’s still something to be cherished. Welcome to the family, and let us know if you need any recs. You can listen to soundboards of virtually every show ever played for free.

I had to convince my friend he didn't own a water fountain at a Phish show in Charlotte, which I believe was in 2003. He was hugging it and trying to charge people to drink out of it. He ate way too much, too fast. We lost him during SOAM or Bathtub (can't remember) - it was a really dark jam, but luckily we were on the lawn right next to the concessions and found him quickly before something bad happened.

Lost a buddy once at Talladega. Found him standing in front of a restroom doorway. We asked him what he was doing and said he "I'm the Bouncer but doing a horrible job since I'm letting everyone in"

There’s a lot to learn. Do I listen album by album or just jam to the live ones? How on earth do I recognize the best? A lot to take in

I’ve been going through the Dick’s Picks releases and listening to the 36 From The Vault podcast along with them. It’s been a good education/refresher. It’s been pretty heavy on the 70’s so far (and both hosts prefer 70’s Dead over 80’s) but you’ll hear the differences between Keith/Brent eras and even between ‘73-‘74 and ‘77. The podcast is good for discussion about how they play songs differently over time too. All albums and podcast episodes are on Spotify

The Dead sound changed alot over time. So everyone has thier preferred eras. Some of the top shows were Veneta 72 and Cornell 77. Then some late 80s shows are great to me.

Go watch Long Strange Trip on Amazon Prime and The Other One on Netflix.

Tennessee Jed on Europe 72 was what hooked me. Pretty unremarkable to have that as my gateway song/version.

I love me some Pigpen era Dead.

It depends upon what you like. In my opinion, American Beauty is their most accessible studio album if you aren’t familiar with them. Europe 72 is a great live album.

I always come back to the late 80’s blue grass stuff Jerry Garcia was doing.

I have a five week old baby and the thing that calms him down with the most success so far is playing Deal from 5/8/77 and dancing with him. I’ve tried other songs, but he seems to only like Deal.

    I'm noticing that's not a live version...

Also love that the ending was someone trying to sabotage the song because the guy was mad he didn't get to do any of the sound mix stuff for the recording session and instead that extra outro just makes it better.

Saved both Billy and the Kids Red Rocks shows from Youtube, spent 6 hours yesterday listening to/watching both. Wish I had been able to go to either one. Billy Strings is a worthy addition, I hope he does more shows with them. Tom Hamilton is a talented guitarist and an ok singer, Strings is a whole different level.

Edit: 2:38 night 2 for an awesome Brokedown Palace...
