I just bought tickets for the Yonder, Railroad Earth and Keller and the Keels show in Spartanburg, SC, which a very weird place for them to play. Regardless, I'm extremely excited because I haven't had the chance to see live music in a while (other than local bands).
At John Mayer's solo show last night in Chicago, he played Dark Star > Your Body is a Wonderland > Dark Star
I was never really into Mayer before he joined Dead and Company, but that was more apathy than anything else. I knew his hits and liked them, but never ran down anything that wasn’t already on the surface. I started listening to much more. It’s going to be interesting to see where he goes from here.
Mom knew we were decorating the tree when we got home today so she gave me an early gift. New favorite ornament.
Trying to get Phish tickets was an absolute joke today Still haven’t talked to a single friend who got one
Random question; me and my buddy are having a discussion about Jerry and his recreational habits. I know he loved his psychedelics, herion and junk food. And I guess cocaine during the late 70's and early 80's. However, was he an alcoholic too? I know it's weird but I never really read anything about his alcohol habits.
I think the entire band had a pretty good drinking habit, including Jerry (my high school friend's dad was a biker and had a picture of himself pouring a beer in Jerry's mouth back stage at a show in the early 90s.)
speaking of which, any of you listen to this podcast? (second half deals with the GD). Edit: seems like that link isn't working -- google --> The Bob Lefsetz Podcast John Scher **John Scher is a misogynist asshole, and grain of salt on any of his stories... but the shit about Phil Lesh (and Jill) kind of corroborates shit I've heard from a couple of different people re both the final days of Jerry and the GD, and all of Bob's "troubles" post 1995.
Sphere pre-sale registration is live: Dead & Company (deadandcompany.com) 18 shows over 6 weekend May >June.
So do you need a seperate code for every show, or does one code apply to all shows? Does the seating color indicate blocked view of the sphere?
I couldn't pull the trigger. By the time I got in it was $700 for the 100 section with a blocked view, or $1800 for a pair.
happy 45th birthday to the time Jerry OD'd on valium (or something - the valium story comes from Parish, so who knows). Listen to the Stagger Lee (35 mins in or so)
While being extremely addictive, it's very, very hard to OD on benzos alone. Unless he was on a cocktail of drug, which was probably the case.
He was supposedly allergic to valium, but again, who knows. Also, by OD, I meant more "took too much to play." And yeah, I'm sure there was a cocktail of drugs involved. He was smoking heroin and base every day at this point and his band was a mess (Keith and Donna smashing cars into each other in hotel parking lots and such)
I wonder if rumors of Lockn coming back next year means Shapiro is eyeing for another Dead and Co stint to headline a couple nights. chillywater
Odd. I was at SF last summer and paid like 20x that and felt it was a great time. Anyway, Bobby is supposed to join SF sports talk this afternoon around 4 Pacific in the Super Bowl run up. Just fyi for anyone interested
