For me, at my very advanced age, I’m finding myself more and more drawn to the indie side of gaming. The past half decade has been really awesome with indie devs finding cool ways to make nostalgic and interesting titles. Rogue Likes and Metroidvanias are in as good and fun a place as they likely will ever be. SkillUp made a nice video on the recent Steam indie demo event and what to look for coming out of it. Hades is making its way to PS5 this month and the sequel to Salt and Sanctuary is coming soon. dead cells is also GOTY
Streaming Narita Boy a side scrolling hack & slash platformer it is really enjoyable gives off a tron techno vibe.
Just beat Disco Elysium and understand why it was so critically acclaimed. Really good game, but I wouldn't recommend it to people that don't do well with point and click table top type RPG's. It's super heavy on the RPG part.
Tribes of Midgard is really a dope time killer. It’s like Minecraft in that way the you feel like you can just hop on off (you absolutely can) but end up playing far longer than you expected. Interesting to see the content rollout and how they update the game going forward. tryna figure out a way to get in trouble with wifey so I can play Hades all weekend
I second the Tribes recommendation. There are definitely some things I'd fix about it. Lobbies with randoms shouldn't be allowed to take things out of the shared chest, only put things in. Too many times good runs have been ruined because some selfish asshole empties the chest and leaves the rest with nothing. If you have someone like this in your server, bifrost out as soon as possible. I'd also like them to add the ability to rebuild the bridge, quarry, farm, and lumberjack without having to take the material out of the chest.
Ender Lillies is one that I haven't finished yet, but plan to jump back into. It's also a really good one
Ended up getting like 2 hours of sleep because it's so easy to convince yourself to try one more run in Hades. Feels so damn good on the PS5
It deserved every bit of Game of the Year nods it got. Gameplay loop is fun, music, sound, and art are all fantastic, and there's good build variety.
Indies I played this year and recommend Hades 13 Sentinels Disco Elysium Death's Door Unsighted Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom Kentucky Route Zero Plague Tale (is this indie?) Kena Bugsnax Tribes of Midgard Do not Recommend Battlefield 2042
