Wow, an almost miracle win by Elena - down 2-6 2-4 to Iga, hangs on to win the 2nd in a tiebreaker and then Iga retires in the 3rd.
Yeah only knew it was the knee through playing more. I mean there was the idea, but it wasn’t clear cut like Zverevs ankle.
I don’t dislike anyone for drugs or PEDs. But at a certain point you should figure out everything you’re consuming, especially if your job depends on it.
Absolutely perfect result for Elena - wins Rome, only has to play one set, and jumps to #4 in the rankings. Not a bad night.
Tempted by Holger tomorrow. idk if it was in here or elsewhere but all the pre-anointing of Alcaraz as a shoe-in to win a billion majors and become the ultimate god of ATP tennis for the next 15 years annoys me. There are a few guys that will be challenging him for years to come. And in fact I think some of them are further from their ceiling than Carlos. the sustained success of the big 3 for 15+ years was such a rare feat. It’s dumb to assume the next generation will Of the 21 and under group who will be testing Carlos for awhile… Obviously Rune has already publicly stated he wants to be considered on the same level as Carlos. I think it’s possible. His play has really elevated. Already won an indoor hard Masters event, may get the clay monkey off his back tomorrow. Jannick Sinner’s health has stopped him from winning multiple events already in his career. His physical attributes are amazing when everything is working properly. Ben Shelton has all the talent in the world but his game isn’t all that sophisticated at this point (especially defensively). Arthur Fils has the potential to be a monster if he continues developing. He’s got the stuff to be a teenage Slam champ but obviously that’s a huge ask. There more. Which is great for the future of tennis.
Happy RG day. Nothing really of note but I’ll be watching qualifiers all day. looked at pre tourney odds and threw a few on long shots. Krejcikova +1700 Daniil +1500 Daniil really shocked me yesterday. All going to be down to luck of the draw and time spent on court at this point. Saying that for all men, which is why thought it was good for Carlos to get time off, while I think he’s the real deal he still needs to stay healthy and that can’t be discounted.
Yeah I’m In Phoenix so quailed starting at 1am is not going to work for me for the next couple days haha
Couple things. I bet on Fils at a book that refunds matches that aren’t fully completed so that was lame. also super lame from the ref. Ymer isn’t exactly Kyrgios out there he is generally just a mid tier guy who puts forth good effort week to week in whatever tournament he is playing. Wild to see him lose his cool like that, and it didn’t help that it was in front of French fans.
RG draws coming out. Couple early popcorn matches on the ladies side already with Kostyuk-Sabalenka and Giorgi-Cornet
You really think so? Carlos/Djoker/Tshits, sure, but: Medvedev Rune Ruud Sinner ...ain't no mugs. Any one of them could win the event if things go right.
All legit, just more question marks. It's more just had you asked me to name three guys I could most realistically see winning RG in order, it would've been Carlos, Novak and either Stef or Rune. Daniil has made great strides on clay, but I don't know that I trust him fully yet, Rune is uber talented but how does he hold up going Bof5 with real expectations now, Casper is the one I believe in the most, but he's been awful this clay swing. And Jannik's been simply OK on the clay this year.
It may be the best chance Medvedev ever has winning this. Of course he could have to face a couple clay season gods early on, but in all reality he should be fresh for the run in. Cannot wait for the exaggerated injury Djokovic picks up in the next two weeks.
Lucas Pouille, who entered this week ranked in the 600’s, comes through qualifying and makes it into the RG main draw. Amazing.
Agreed with everything you said in your post... except for Tshitshispants - I don't think he's got a huge chance. He might get through to the quarters, even the semis, but he just can't go with the big guys in the slams. I think Rune & Meddy are next likely chances after the top two. Hell, even Sinner or Ruud for that matter. Stef is soft.
