That backhand was a rocket
Stef breaks back. He’s got the backhand cookin’.
Lol Rafa breaks back
4 straight breaks of serve lmao
WTA match amirite
Nadal v. Medvedev in the semis
I think the craziest part of that to me is all 3 of them only made it together 3 times
Man, Sascha keeps messing up (probable) winners down the line.
Djokovic is insane during tiebreakers. I can’t remember the last time he lost one.
quick google tells me YTD, he's 13-1 lol
Pretty sure the 1 is the most unlikely of them all. Kyle Edmund at the US Open.
Medvedev looking like a player that knows this match means nothing and that hes in the next round already
$158k is $158k though. He's trying to win.
Daniil is making this look effortless right now lol
And Thiem with the first break.
Thiem in that TB:
Was a very fun tiebreak to watch
Holy fuck at that backhand winner.
I can’t believe Thiem pulled that third set TB out. Phenomenal match.
I’m not sure how, but I had no clue Daniil was 6’6” wtf
The rare non douche Novak.
Could be my imagination but Novak seems like he’s teetering on being completely disinterested in tennis in general. Have kind of felt that way for most of the year.
Could be getting to feel like Roger, tired of winning. Lol.
If Dominic wins this, could he jump to 1 or 2? Not sure how all the points work.
Jfc… Medvedev started the match 16/16 on first serves. In his fourth service game he goes 0-4 on his first serve and gets broken at love.
I don’t think he believes in Rona so I’m sure he feels this is some global plan working against him.
Nadal broken at love when serving for the match and then continues his disastrous tiebreak performance
Really don’t understand Nadal’s tactics. Why he’s not trying to pound Medvedev’s forehand is beyond me.
I’ve never seen him hit this many slices.
What a damn win for Daniil
God damn Daniil!
Oh boy, Dom and Dan tomorrow. LFG boys!!!
Last match of the season, fellas. Starting momentarily on ESPN2.
Just got an email about this - pissed
what are the chances the Aussies push back their tournament to afford more time for vaccine distribution
plus, cooler temps. Who knows what the wildfire situation will be this year.
and the tennis calendar is pretty malleable as 2020 showed.
Id love to see them do whatever it takes to get as full of a field as possible. Obviously a bubble environment will help.
Only makes sense especially considering that the US Open is the most attended sporting event in the world, you have to figure all the majors are losing tons of money. Sponsorships and other items really drive that down as well when you can't plaster your name in the toilets and various other places. Of course Wimbledon is the exception with insurance but who knows how long that lasts and how many times it will pay out.
It would be a great year to reexamine the calendar for sure. Stretch things out a bit more, allow for some rest in between and adjust the ranking system. Women's side is fine but the men are still a shit show. Not to say Thiem, Rublev and Daniil didn't make strides but it's still a Big 3 world.
Just based on a little inside info I have = insurers are not offering up pandemic insurance now (or for the foreseeable future).
Melbourne had it last year, did not need it yet but paid the premiums, and now do need it but not a part of their current policy.
Interesting, I'd be curious to know how their calendar year works.
Also, on a selfish personal front, I'm quite pissed AO won't start the normal time. It always seems to happen during a sports doldrums for me based on time of year and it's typically nice to see people sweating when it's colder than shit here.
Seems like a week or two weeks is as much as Tennis Australia would like to push it. Seems like even if the tournament goes on, who shows up will depend on things like what the practice situation during two weeks of quarantine looks like.
2/8 and shifting of the schedule would affect Rotterdam, Rio, Delray Beach, Buenos Aires, New York Open and Marseille at the very least, assuming those events are still planning to go on.
