I've thought about this before but I'm amazed that this doesnt happen more often at all levels of tennis. Even thinking about how baseball players let go every now and then you just rarely ever see it in tennis.
I've been "teaching" summer school for the last few weeks. Been boring as shit so I've been betting tennis a bit more. Started off on the right side of this Bublik murder. About to play Medvedev is some fashion I suppose.
welcome to the Degen area. How I got into tenni hardcore and fell in love. Wait until you start betting live and betting each service game
I was going to say I didn't see it on the schedule. If you didn't know, Flashscore.com is the best way to track scores.
Bet on some bootleg qualifying match and there's been 4 breaks in the second set. Guess these dudes can't serve for shit.
LOL It takes time to get to know everyone. Stop betting the qualies though. Stick to the main events. You got 2 ATP and 2 WTA tournaments right now. If you stick to those you will start to know the Top 100. I barely know people in the Qualies. My personal favorite bet of the day is Feliciano at -120
This is the crazy ass shit I bet like a lunatic Sabalenka, Aryna -490 2nd set game 5 - winner giorgi, camila vs sabalenka, aryna LIVE Risk $980.00 Win $200.00 Ticket # 509076641
Quick rundown. It’s the point systems which signifies for rankings. So it’s how big the tournament is. Majors - 2,000 points. You know the 4, Australian, French, Wimbledon, US Masters 1,000 - there are 8-9 of these a year. 500 & 250 - a bunch of these. so for rankings, the 4 majors and 8/9 1,000 are mandatory for points. Those 12 tournaments are up and then I think your best 5 250/500 tournaments and that’s how you get your points. Points lead to rankings so you will always see all the big guys at every major and masters because they are mandatory. 250-500 tournaments they will play a select few
For instance here is the draw for Mallorca 250. You will notice at the bottom it shows how many points are awarded for how deep you go http://www.protennislive.com/posting/2021/8994/mds.pdf Most the big names always play 1 tuneup in January before the Australian Open. And 1 tuneup between French and Wimbledon since the grass tournaments are basically only 4 weeks. Then like Roger will play the 500 in Switzerland. Rafa plays the 500 in Spain.
So a lot of these low level guys, making a run in a tournament is MASSIVE. Purcell just beat Seppi and made the Semis. 90 points for a guy like him is massive. Ranked outside the Top 300 and this run has put him in the Top 240. And the higher ranked you are puts you in the main draw of tournaments. These low level guys have to go through qualifiers, which is what you are seeing at Wimbledon
So theoretically.. You could be a good not great player but play a ton of tournaments and get a bit over ranked?
Nope. Not with the way rankings are set up. 4 Majors & 8 Masters are apart of the rankings. Those are mandatory. To get in the main draw of those are tough for the guys below the Top 100. Then it takes your best 4 or 5 250/500 tournaments. So those lower level guys it will only take 4 or 5 of those tournaments. The issue you do find, is if some shitty player makes a DEEP run at a Major or Masters. Like 2017 Jack Sock who can't win a main draw match to save his life anymore. Made the Semis at Indian Wells (Masters 1,000) & Won Paris (Masters 1,000). That alone is 1,360 points which alone is enough to put you in the Top 50. Your points drop off a year later when the tournament is done. So that 1,000 points from Paris which is basically the last tournament of the year, was on his rankings for the entire 2018 season
Also for the Top 50 type guys, your goal is Top 32. Because that is when you become a seed at a Major tournament and means your first two opponents are unseeded. If you are ranked #33, with the luck of the draw, you might get Djokovic in the first round and not gain basically any points.
Playing a lot is the best way to build a rankings floor, but not usually ceiling if that makes sense. Always a few guys that can boost their ranking going really deep consistently though at the midlevel events. It's just hard to do. Like, Andrey Rublev has begun making QF's at Slams, but he's really made his hay winning 4 500 level events over the past calendar year, plus another 500 Final and a Masters Final. It all adds up, and now in the top-10. So he's not over-ranked per se, but he's built from the bottom up.
Giorgi retired. Got her practice in for Wimbledon and decided ah Im done for this week. I hate her so much
Kerber with a three setter again Anisimova today. So that's at least two more tomorrow and then she's out by Wednesday, maybe Thursday at the latest next week.
She would get Serena 3rd round. Winner would play Coco/Bencic Nothing crazy men’s side in the first round. Maybe best match is Stefanos/Tiafoe Not a fan on Bibi draw. Cornet playing good
I looked at it wrong.. Espn had Sonego as the higher seed but i now see that De Minaur is rated higher.
