I could see driving around Iceland and staying at small inns with a loved one being romantic, but not what I think of as an ideal honeymoon spot.

So basically anywhere in Europe or the middle east is doable then. Places I could think of being somewhat convenient to get to but being good for spending 24-48 hours in would be Amsterdam, London, Barcelona, Prague. Don't know much about the middle east but if you're flying Emirates/etihad you could probably do a stopover in Dubai/Abu Dhabi/Doha.

I would agree with recommending Shinjuku based on its location, with Kabukicho & Golden Gai. Don't forget if you are travelling around Tokyo, the Chuo Line bisects the Yamanote Loop, can save a lot of time. If you prefer a younger crowd you might want to check out Shibuya. One thing to remember is that a lot of places will have beer gardens on the rooftop during the summer months. Ebisu used to be my favorite local beer brand, followed by Sapporo. One other thing, Japanese convenience stores are great, much better than what I get here in Hong Kong. They have a good selections of beers, lots of decent Japanese food and snacks that are fresh and great if you need a bite on the go.

I also ate at C&C when I was in Bkk a couple of weeks ago, it's just down the street from the Sheraton. Sometimes I also stay at Aloft on Soi 11, the converted VW buses made into cocktail bars always look good.

Definitely agree on the convenience stores. They always have really solid, affordable food. In the morning before I set off to do whatever I had planned for the day I always stocked up on onigiri and sandwiches for snacks. I had some great sushi in a train station grocery store on my way to Nikko. Go figure.

I also had no idea many websites, and some airlines, now offer Pay Later financing options. It looks like you have 90 days to pay off your flight via PayPal or they charge 20% interest. They do this to avoid losing 2% on a credit card transaction and instead use a paypal type service for free. At least it appears that way to me. https://www.billmelater.com/about/index.xhtml

BREAKING: LaGuardia Airport to Be Torn Down and Rebuilt
Gov. Cuomo reveals plans for the airport's $4 billion makeover.
By Simone Wilson (Patch Staff) July 27, 2015
    [IMG]
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced plans on Monday to completely tear down and rebuild LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in Queens.

“There is no way to fix this. We need to literally tear it down and rebuild it,” Cuomo said at a press conference.

“LaGuardia Airport is un-New York,” he said. ”It’s slow, dated and a terrible entranceway to New York — a lost opportunity. For New York, it is time to move and get it done.”

Under the plan, LaGuardia’s current terminals would apparently stay open and operational during construction, and would only be torn down upon completion of the new structure, which is being built about 600 feet away. (We’ve reached out to Cuomo’s office to confirm.)

According to Cuomo, the first half of the construction project will cost $4 billion and is slated to begin in early 2016, following final approval by the Port Authority’s board of commissioners. Here’s the full timeline:

The majority of this first half of the project is expected to open to passengers in 2019, with full completion scheduled for approximately 18 months later. The second half of the new unified terminal is expected to be redeveloped by Delta Air Lines, which has indicated strong support for the new vision, and anticipates beginning the redevelopment of its terminals on a parallel track with the LaGuardia Gateway Partners project to complete the new unified airport.

And here is Cuomo’s vision for the new LGA.

Dan Tishman, CEO of Tishman Construction Company and chair of the governor’s Airport Master Plan Advisory Panel, says in a promotional video that the panel was told:

“First and foremost, stop piecemeal development. Create an entirely new facility. Build a new, single, unified terminal running adjacent to the Grand Central Parkway.”

Also in attendance at today’s press conference was Vice President Joe Biden, who famously said last year, “If I took you and blindfolded you and took you to LaGuardia Airport in New York you must think, ‘I must be in some third-world country.’”

In a recent report, the data crunchers at FiveThirtyEight found LaGuardia to be the slowest major airport in America in terms of flight delays.

Cuomo’s blueprints for the revamped airport include new parking lots, shops and restaurants, as well as an ”on-site automated tram” to carry passengers to their gates.

This new LGA would have the capacity to host an airport hotel with 200 rooms. ”It should be an architecturally significant pubic space,” says Tishman.

The governor also promises to add nearly two miles of space for airplanes to taxi — opened up by moving LGA terminals 600 feet closer to the Parkway.

Place is a shithole but I always fly in there when going to NYC because its so much quicker to manhattan. Best part is adding an airtrain connection to the subway.

Worst holiday to do a trip on IMo, but one cool place is key west. Watch the conch drop. It's perfect weather there. Fishing/snorkeling trip during day. Airbnb it. You could fly into Fort Myers and take the Key West Express (boat) down there.

Yeah, everything gets jacked up. I went to New Orleans and every restaurant I wanted to try was insanely packed. If you guys want to get out of town maybe rent a house somewhere more low key. Somewhere people won't be flocking too. Like St. Augustine for example.

Downtown is hit or miss imo. Where you staying?

There's a Nongs Khao Man Gai in one of the food pods down there.

Lardo is outrageously good sandwiches. We ate here twice in 3 days it was so good. My wife almost left me to marry the hush puppies they had.

Blue Star for fancy donuts. (Voodoo is down there also, but everytime we walked by there was a huge line and they looked generic)

Stumptown for an awesome hipster coffee joint.

Bailey's Taproom was right by our hotel so we ended most nights there drinking, good craft beer selection. Mexican place that's name I can't remember you can order from here and they walk it across the street, said Mexican place shares a bathroom with a strip club so you can see a show when going to the bathroom.

Tasty n Alder probably one of the best sit down restaurants in that area.

Imperial restaurant gets killer reviews but we never went over there. Supposedly great happy hour deals.

These are all walking distance from the main hotels downtown. We stayed at The Courtyard Marriott. Bus system is cheap and stupid simple so we used that a lot to hit the SE Portland scene where the hipsters roam free and make amazing food.

Thanks this is awesome, I'm staying at the same Courtyard Marriott. Had breakfast this morning at the little diner connected to Imperial that was really good

I'm spending most of the days in Beaverton for work but then have evenings free downtown. Supposedly the Pearl District is pretty great so I'll head that direction at some point

Posted this in the Nashville and Atlanta threads, but figured I'd throw it here as well to see what you fellas had to say.

So with my job it looks like in a couple of months I'm going to have the option of moving to Nashville or Atlanta/Buckhead. From what I've read so far, I think I would like Nashville more, however I really don't know much about either. My dynamic is I only know one person (more of an acquaintance) in Nashville and one of my very good friends, who I would live with, lives in Atlanta. I know moving to a new city you'll meet people and what not, but with my job I'll literally meet no-one I would want to hangout with, so I would be relying on meeting people completely solo if I lived in Nashville. I'm out going, but not exactly the type of person to make new friends in a public environment like a gym.

With that said, I am still going to look into both as if I were going to live there. Where are some good places to live for a young 23 year old single guy in Atlanta/buckhead? Some places my friend threw at me were: Peachtree Hills, Allure, Westminster, and Gramercy. All look pretty expensive, but from what he said are in really good areas. What areas do the younger crowds hangout at in general? Any general info is welcome, because I've only been to Atlanta once (will be there for work in a few weeks) and am just now looking into it.
