I know you will be but I bet Hawaii has the highest percentage of rooms booked with points of any destination in the US so they gouge everyone else.

Just surprised you're spending money like a commoner with your business expenses

My reach doesn't extend to the four seasons ownership unfortunately. Aside from that I'm sure I'll get comp'd a lot at the restaurants and clubs.

Also - this may not be clear from my posting - but we literally never go anywhere other than JH or LA aside from our recent country-wide escapade.

Our frequent flyer points are nonexistent.

You can google Kahana Outrigger or Kahana Village. We've stayed at Outrigger twice and are trying the Village this spring

Wife and I like to be able to step off the lanai and into the ocean. Outrigger 3a2 is perfect for that, as long as you're not expecting some expansive beach with clear snorkeling water

    https://www.westmauicondos.com/resorts/kahana-outrigger#q=sm_rc_core_cat_ldrc_facility:"Kahana%20Outrigger"

    https://www.kahanavillage.com

If you're younger and looking for a happnin scene, Kahana isn't for you. If you like to relax on the lanai with a mai tai and some tri-tip and listen to the waves as the sun sets, it's perfect. Both times we've been at Outrigger we've seen extended families getting together and renting out multiple units, so there are grandparents and children around

Thanks. We are looking at going sometime this summer. Ideally we would like to use points, but the Grand Wailea would eat up a chunk of them. If we can get a good deal on an Air bnb, we may go that route.

I may DM you with some more questions, if that’s ok. Thanks again.

Yeah, that's OK. I like to blather about how much I like Maui. I can't say it's the best island, but what it has going for it is that it's got a little bit of everything

We booked a house close to Ajax Peak. ~20 minute drive to Cruz Bay, but the views from up higher were too good to pass up.

Yeah, I've stayed up in a house like that, it's pretty sweet. Breeze at nice is great.

They are all mountain roads between. Wouldn't be shocked if it takes longer than 20 min and def don't want to do too tipsy

We're in Maui almost 5 full days. Tentative plan is Road to Hana, ride bikes down the volcano and go on a snorkeling tour and maybe zip lining. Going to play it by ear otherwise.

Any other must dos that we're missing?

nah that's good. The volcano bike ride is apparently hit or miss based on the company so be careful

I was told not to drive back from Hana at night. You think it’s fine to drive at night from Mamas back to Lahaina?

Yeah, that's completely different. The Road to Hana is infinitely more dangerous. 30 is a legit highway not much different than you'd find in like North Carolina

We've done Kapalua Ziplines twice, had a blast both times. I hated the road to Hana, but I was the one driving seven hours there and back. Not enough parking along the way, too many mini traffic jams. The black rock/sand beach with lava tubes in Hana is pretty cool. On the way back we stopped and got some pizza at a place in Paia that we'd discovered earlier, Flatbread Company. I didn't realize it's a chain, but it was pretty good pizza. Wife is allergic to seafood, so we've never done Mama's. Drove up Haleakala but didn't do the bike thing. Nice view anyway.

Probably not open again yet, but the magic show in Lahaina at Warren and Annabelle's is IMO well worth it.

Nakalele blowhole is pretty cool when it's blowing, but it's hit and miss. Went out there once and it was absolutely spectacular, the next time we went it wasn't doing a thing. Still a nice hike, but no geysering was disappointing.

One of my kids said he was up for doing the Lahaina Pali trail hike this time. Never done it, but looking forward to doing it in April when it's not too hot.

Iao Valley is pretty cool, if you can get parking

This the view from Star Noodle in Lahaina, crazy good Asian food. We loved it already and they moved to the shoreline, all the seating is outdoors.

i had a few domestic trips early in the year then nothing

rescheduled a japan trip twice now and seems like decent odds it'll be pushed back again! virgin changing delta redemptions might totally kneecap it too, or will try to find ANA out of Chicago but a much bigger pain in the ass

Well thanks for this actually, we just booked a Presidents’ Day weekend trip to Cancun on a whim for Friday to return Monday. Can get tested and results that Thursday before but getting tested down there knocks this trip down to 20% chance from 50%.

The map is generated by a website http://www.gcmap.com/

I didn't feel like sitting there entering each route by hand and I was already tracking all of my flights in Google Sheets so I just wrote up a script of sorts to auto import my tracking into the mapping site.

A way easier way to do something similar is to use FlightMemory.com.

I have a Notes list of the airports I’ve been to on my phone. I always remember to update it mid-flight but have to wait to remember again once I land so that I don’t jinx not ever reaching that airport.

Hopefully - there is so much still completely closed it's tough to plan a full trip.

But I'm someone that wasn't able to access Neah Bay due to the state helicoptering out goats so I'm a little jaded possibly.

At Ritz in St Thomas for the weekend. Spoke to the GM last night and he said due to upcoming travel requirements for non US destinations they are inundated with requests to move to this resort.

Going to be packed in a couple weeks.
