Going to London last weekend in Nov for 3 days. Looking for the following recs: Best Indian meal Museums to hit/avoid Bar that might be open for CFB conf championships Best late-night eats? (would try some freaky wiggan food)
Probably a dumb question but I'll ask. It's been forever since I've flown international on Delta- is it still the case that you can't watch live TV on international flights? Is the wifi good enough to stream? From what I remember I think the coverage cuts off once you leave the US, but hoping things have changed
CFB Bar is a bit tricky with TNT now owning the old ESPN/BT Sports, but these 2 places should have what you need depending on what part of city you are in (1) https://passyunkavenue.com/ (2) https://wappingtavern.co.uk/ This for Indian = https://brigadierslondon.com/ there are several locations of this spot, but its good = https://www.dishoom.com/ Most of the Indian spots I know are in The City which is dead on weekends. very much co-sign Churchill War Rooms late night, let me think on it or can tell you next week. Shoreditch usually the area for that.
Awesome. Thank you v much. What about Regency for breakfast? I'm a Layercake fan so that's why I'm asking /cringe
Just did a trip to Japan on Delta and returned a couple days ago. Bought the streaming wifi for the flight there and streamed YouTube tv the entire time to watch college football. No live TV provided though.
never been, but know its an institution and ppl love it. I would try it for sure. Think the men in blazers featured it once.
Don't mind the outdoors at all, but more in the hiking/exploring lane rather than say, rock climbing or something.
Could go either way, we have a few free days at the end of our Australia trip so we'd like to hit New Zealand on the way back
Can't speak to streaming, but it's awesome how good in-flight WiFi has become. Finishing up a 4.5 hour flight from Seattle to Nola, have been able to work without interruption the whole time. I remember the days of BoGo, or whatever it was called -- complete scam.
this is a very broad generalization, but North Island for beaches, South Island for mountains/hiking/adventuring you can’t really go wrong anywhere, although I’d say don’t plan on spending time in Auckland - it’s perfectly nice, but in comparison with the rest of NZ it’s just a city.
Thinking about a two week trip to Bangkok, Hanoi (and Ha Long Bay), and Ho Chi Minh City. Should I add another city in Thailand? Mainly looking for good street food.
I have the week before Thanksgiving off, have so much vaca time saved up that I have to use it. Also have about $800 in American travel credits I need to use. I'm usually pretty adventurous, but I'm a bit stuck. Somebody tell me where to go.
Should have mentioned - I am planning on going in February. I’ve heard that’s during “burning season” in Chiang Mai, so I’m afraid it’s a no-go.
Yea, good call. It's really shitty that time of year. Could maybe go down to the Thai islands, but they're more for the scenery and not the culinary scene. If you're into hiking/nature, Sapa is accessible from Hanoi and is incredible. Ninh Binh is another day trip, too.
Do you want to go international or domestic, and what do you like to do (cities/museums/dining or nature)?
I know Uber has become a racket but today is the worst I’ve seen. I use it to go back and forth to the airport and it usually costs $40 each way, but I landed a bit ago at DFW and it said $105 because they are “busier than normal” It’s a work expense but on general principle I’m not getting gouged like that so I took a 5 minute train ride to Grapevine and it’s $27 to get me home. Obscene of course if Texas had the least bit of wherewithal I’d be able to take the train to my area of town but alas, Texas
leaving Seattle yesterday morning at 6:00 AM was $88 to the airport going from Nola airport to Mid-City was $45 T'is a racket
‘‘Twas a market before they ran the competition out of business but guess what has two thumbs and told them to fuck their monopoly I'm giving myself a $77 discount?
Sounds like you gave your company a $77 discount. ohhaithur's employer would be proud of you looking out for the ride share expenses.
We found London taxis to be more reasonable than Uber a couple weeks ago. Bolt over there was 10x better though
True, but as department head my budget has a direct impact on my bonus so a few cents of those savings are mine at least
Room 15 may be staying a few nights at the hostel next weekend, probably the 11-14th. Is it better for you for me to book via hostelworld, or direct on your website?
Will this be the first TMB guest at hostel de tigre? Need a full-fledged report full of pictures and stories
Hopefully Room 15 gives him some personal touches and maybe some quick snuggles for a lonely traveler
Uber needs a competitor or someone in addition to Lyft. I got a car last week that was like 2.5 miles from my house and it was $60. Ridiculous
It is the same in Nashville. Don't know whether my ride will be $14 or $75. And when you think you have a reasonable fare switching between apps you just never get picked up and have to cancel and pay more.
IDK if anyone is flying to Asia this week, but apparently there was a Russian volcano eruption that is causing havoc to anyone getting to that part of the world. My wife was supposed to leave last night ATL->Seoul->Tianjin in business economy. Thursday morning her flight was canceled. They rebooked her ATL->DFW->Seoul automatically 3 hours after the cancelation in 1st class. Then that flight got canceled. Then rebooked her ATL->SFO->Shanghai->Tianjin in basic economy middle seat every leg . Kicker is it is now multiple airlines. Delta to SFO, Unitied to Shanghai, then China something to Tianjin. Chances of main check bag getting lost is probably near 100%, she put an airtag in it. She did have to pay out of pocket (will expense) to get Comfort+ and a window to Shanghai. I think the ticket was originally $5000, one would have to imagine Delta would give her some kind of credit for being down graded to economy? Even if it was a weather related incident? Or they gonna drop like 5000 Delta Pesos
Just booked the Norwegian Encore out of Miami for a week over this coming spring break. Didn’t book haven rooms as we booked it as a gift for several members of my family as a thank you for the help they provide with childcare and stuff like that. It was 2-3x the cost of a standard balcony for this sailing, and I’m not that appreciative. Hoping to bid an upgrade for my wife and I as we get closer. If we like it we have eyes on Alaska in a couple years when our son is old enough to do more stuff on excursions. I’ll try to remember to report back on the ship experience.
