Yeah, flew into Rome and immediate train to Orvieto. I'd leave 2 hours or just buy at the station or when you can judge how long customs is taking.
I may be doing it wrong but I’ve bought rail tickets last minute every time I’ve been to Italy. And don’t popular routes have trains leaving every hour or so?
At Rome Termini, keep in mind that 1est and 2est are separate platforms from 1 and 2, and require a little extra time to get to
1. We booked though italo or frecciarossa to remove the third party. Cheaper prices and they wont fuck you if something happens with your train. 2. I would plan for more 90 minutes imo.
I was there last weekend. Looks like Imerovigli? I fucking hated Oia, the center of the island was so much nicer
Mama Lena for your next meal. Everyone is going to push you to Anogi or Avocado, but Mama Lena was the best of the three by a significant margin Send Moussaka pics
I literally walked through it and left. We did the hike to Oia, I fucking hated it, we got lunch in Amoudi Bay and then took a cab home It wasn't even sunset either, it's awful. This is sunset nowadays:
I don’t think it was that crowded but there were a lot of people. It was easier for us because all we did was walk down from our hotel like 10 min before it. We were also down the cliff in a less crowded hotel area which makes it easier. We liked it more than Fira anyway but generally Santorini is crowded af especially in high season. Probably not a repeat trip for us
Imerovigli was great. Completely quiet and private. Very happy with my choice to only visit Fira and pass through Oia. Unfortunately no Metaxi Mas though
Dudes - heading to Baha Mar on Nassau for wife’s 31st. Last hurrah before we pull the goalie. Planning on a lot of pool, eating, and gambling. Any other suggestions at or near the resort?
Place is great. We went in March....that place is so big with so many restaurants, bars and pools there is no reason IMO to leave. The steakhouse is good. I didn't go to Marcus but our wives went and had great reviews. The mexican food truck by the beach does a great steakbowl for lunch. Costa in Rosewood looked really cool as its surrounded by trees and sits basically on top of a pond. Walk over there at night...we weren't able to get in as we were thing over Spring Break so every restaurant was booked unless you had reservations in advance. Great place.
Looking at a 9/10 day Euro trip before getting a puppy in late October. Fly into London (cheapest flights), visit a few friends, then thinking San Sebastian for a week. Surf and pintxos, yes please
Was a bit overpriced, but the Terrapin Taproom upstairs in concourse D in ATL is pretty good. Completely not busy where everything downstairs was slammed.
Haven't been to London in 10 years. If I was to spend a long weekend there, what area would be best for food and drink? Not terribly worried about sightseeing or tourist attractions, will mostly be visiting folks. Fran Tarkenton
Shoreditch East london, Farringdon/Clerkenwell for Central, Camden North london, Brixton or Clapham south london. Fulham West London. Depending on where your friends are. Shoreditch is generally most ppl's move, basically like a williamsburg. One central london restaurant Id go to is Kiln in soho. St John in Farringdon too; but thats just as much a bar/pub these days so can really post up with laptop and eat bone marrow all day.
Nug if you're getting a puppy, were you still going to do your thing of half your time in the US and half outside the country?
Nope. I'm in Bellingham for the foreseeable future. But, ask me again in 5 years when I post about bringing a dog to a different country
I read that last Wednesday was a "high volume cruise day" and they dropped off over 11,000 passengers onto the island. There are 42 of those days this summer. For perspective, there are 15,000 residents on the island. That's a roughly 10k population increase spread amongst 2 towns that can't support it.
If you're looking for bomb ass food on the go, cannot recommend Borough Market (near Tower Bridge) or Camden Market enough. Camden also has some good breweries; I really like 3 Locks personally
yeah it’s just way way over touristed. imo it’s worth visiting once and just making sure you plan well around the cruise ship arrivals. having a car so you can get out to beaches and areas away from cruise ship drop off is key too. we really only spent evenings and Kate nights in Oia for dinners etc and bailed on it when crowds were high. barely saw Fira except to go to the gyro place
I swear to god you posted the other day that you were going to be gone for another 6 months. That's good then, I'll probably DM you soon if I can schedule some time to do a solo quick trip.
My daughter and I got a mushroom risotto there a few months ago and she, who "wasn't that hungry" was licking the inside of the container like a dog with a pup cup trying to get the last of it. When I go there I like to do what I call a "mobile tapas" and get as many small plates and free samples as possible. I'd love to live in London (it's where everything happens and the Tube is a miracle) but it's impossibly expensive. Even the old alternative parts of town (Camden for example) are just a veneer for wealthy trust fund "punks" or "crusties" to spend their parents money on £300 jackets that LOOK like motorcycle jackets but aren't.
Markets are most the time the best part of any trip The markets all over Paris, some covered ones dating back hundreds of years, sensational
My friend worked at a building next to the Shard for 3 years and ate down there all the time. Said walking everywhere was only reason didn't gain weight.
Anyone have recs for donegal/Inishowen? Made a slightly impulsive decision to meet my dad there (specifically Ballyliffin) for six nights in early September.
Laptop (both PC and Mac), phone, iPad,Apple Watch charger. Wife will likely need a separate one for the items listed above and also hair shit maybe?
