We did the same and stayed off long bay on old house close. I couldn’t find the place we stayed but here’s a five bedroom which I know is too big https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/400607...7_Tt0P03yDP4V&previous_page_section_name=1000 if you aren’t on long bay but stay on the water you still get water access through stairs but there is no beach farther east. It was fine because in the afternoon the tide came in and with the wind it got a little choppy. I would say we enjoyed the private nature of the leeward side and if we wanted to head to Grace bay it was so close.
We stayed here. Pretty basic https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/470578...-11-13&guests=1&adults=1&check_out=2024-11-19
I found this place in Long Bay Hills. It has one bad review claiming the owner is racist but I am white so idk. Has a private pool which is cool
I have done airbnbs before. This is a situation where it makes sense because the high end resort I would normally consider is comically expensive with money or points
I was mainly talking about the beach. The beach at long bay is for a lot of wind surfers or kite surfers due to the wind. On the beach the water is prety choppy, but when you're at the house it isn't bad b/c it is hot as fuck and you get a nice breeze. For whatever reason, the wind didn't seem bad at all at the other southern facing beaches on the western side of the island
Yeah, I don't think there is much blocking some of the others, but maybe there is just enough. The difference from one side of the ridge to the other was pretty stark. I'll say this about Turks, it is fucking expensive. It's more expensive than any Caribbean Island I've ever been too. But all the food we had was pretty damn good, even from hole in the wall type places that charged $25 for a sandwich.
the bar for this trip is just find some nice white sand and chill for five days. we are always doing some over complicated itinerary and I told her after our last trip to France and Spain that we were just going somewhere with good sand and water and sitting around and fucking
I also have a very specific skill when I am on vacation where money no longer becomes real and anything I do is future GFA’s problem. He is pretty good with money and always bails vacation GFA out
It is wild how many people have cycled through Paris the past few weeks. And they say the Olympics has no positive economic impact.
Casinos don't open until 4pm, which seemed really annoying when I was trying to kill some time during wife's nap. Plenty of beaches to chill and do nothing.
this is what I came back to looking at high end resorts. that’s great but I’m still gonna want to leave most days to go see some remote white sand beaches and other cool stuff so why would I pay so much to stay there. will just hit a beach club on grace bay a couple days instead
My in laws got certified last year in Honduras/Roatán. They’ve been going for years and years. This will be my second time. We will be in West End/Luna area.
What should I ask for here? We left Goldeneye today (awesome place) and checked into Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay like an hour ago. We booked a swim up room so got some perks from splurging on that. The butler shows us to our room and the damn swim up pool is emptied out while they repair a leak, or so they say. I understand maintenance has to be done but it pissed me off they didn’t inform me of this prior to swiping my card, or even getting to the resort. I would have stayed somewhere else considering my ocean view is now a construction site. After I asked to speak to a manager, they said they’d refund the difference between our room and a lower level room. I think I should get more. Thoughts?
I'm laid back to the absolute extreme so I feel like a refund of the difference would be sufficient but I also don't spend time in my room.
I’m a lot less annoyed than my other half. She’s actively looking for new resorts to stay at the next 2 nights.
One time at a resort the sink fell off of the counter. We came up to the room and the sink was just on the floor. I went downstairs to let them know and apologized profusely for something I didn't do. They came up and fixed it right away. That's a lot less than the swim up pool though
Would love a quick review / summary of Goldeneye when you're back from your trip. Been on my list for a long time (along with The Caves in Negril). Haven't been to Jamaica
My wife and I are headed to Cartagena for the week. Used miles to get main cabin tickets from MDW-ATL-CTG. We got upgraded to comfort plus from Chicago and then to first class from Atlanta. Not a bad start to the trip.
what’s your delta status? I’m gonna be platinum by our Turks trip so hoping for a the same, but we’re also going in high season
that’s a huge dub then, I rarely get first with gold anymore but I also travel on busy corporate travel days
Anybody ever been to Biarritz, or southern coast of France? Looks like it's just a 45 minute drive from San Sebastian, might take a day trip.
Long time friend of mine (who I met while backpacking) went years ago. He loved it. Went for the surfing. Stayed for topless sunbathers.
Anyone have a recommendation for a suit bag/garment bag? Getting a lot of ads for halfday garment duffle.
https://stitchgolf.com/products/ultimate-garment-bag I got this two years ago. Actually sitting next to me in the capital one lounge as we speak. Great for a suit plus some dress shirts. Then can fit a pair of dress shoes. Throw in a couple pair of pants, few shirts, underwear. Durable so far. Only negative is that it can be hard to zip close when you try to pack it to the brim + keep the suit/jacket on a hanger. I did away with the hanger this trip so we will see how that goes.
Before I travel, especially internationally, I like to learn about my destination’s history and culture. I use Mango and Duolingo to learn a few basics of the language. I’ll watch documentaries or nonfiction books. Do any of you do this and have particular websites or video series you recommend generally? For what it’s worth, I’m headed to Belgium and the Netherlands next if anyone has specific recommendation for these two countries.
